    This piece is a bit sentimental). Changing guitars would be definitely better for the overall sound, but it would make this piece even longer so I played five layers in Boomerang looper with only one Godin Multiac Steel guitar this time.
    First of all I dropped 6th string from E to D. I often change a guitar tuning if it makes playing more convenient.
    This is the first time I used MIDI sync with a DAW because I needed a click to play exactly in tempo. If you sync Boomerang Looper with Cubase be sure to check a box in Transport menu - Project Synchronization Setup - MIDI Clock Out - (checkmark the desired MIDI Clock Destination).
    The 3rd phrase in Boomerang is also used for internal sync if you record it first, so the other phrases will correspond to its length as 1:1, 1:2, 1:4 and so on…
    I used some short Strymon TimeLine delay to make a rhythmic structure at the very beginning. The second phrase was a short circling figure that was meant to fit well to the harmony of the next long piece. I used two delays (quarter note in Roland VG-99 and dotted note in Strymon TimeLine) in this short figure to make a reach rhythmic structure.
    I used some of my Roland VG-99’s presets to make a fat bass pad that followed the harmony line. At the end of the composition I played a melodic part with ebow and a slider. I like using foot volume controller when playing ebow - it makes the sound swelling in smoothly which can be hard to achieve sometimes when playing ebow.
    Thanks for watching!

    Love this. I wish I had read your description first because I spent way too long trying to figure out your chord progression on the second part and didn't realize you were in drop D. Ugh. Now I have to go back and figure it out again...

      +StuttsyDC any work can lead to perfection, so I believe you didn't spend your time for nothing trying to figure that out!) The other day I read that Joni Mitchell uses a numerous number of alternate tunings and she is incredibly skillful in it. Ease of performance...)

    Cheers ! Lovely music Mike, I always like your advice and settings for the rig. Did you first recorded a silent layer on the boomerang ? Or just began recording? I'm into dadgad lately but have to get my ass in gear to set up my stuff again and play. Less is more. Thanks !

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ronnie Bracke thanks Ronnie! No, I decided to record right from the start - no silent layers. You can guess that this video is far from being the first take)))). The biggest problem was the first rhythmic loop - to record it as clear as possible. Not satisfied with midi interaction between Boomerang and DAW. Think I should experiment further. Less is more! (sounds like "may the force be with you" for some musicians))))

    Great piece. Do you mind to share what effects did you use with ebow and slider?

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Well... it's a complicated preset in VG-99 built on a cosm guitar (1 octave up) + synth sound... and a bit of Strymon TimeLine's delay. The most remarkable thing about this VG-99's preset is that it combines 2 delay lines - synth starts at the very beginning and cosm guitar starts 1800 ms later (delay is set to "all wet"). I like this approach when there comes a second voice repeating after the main one 2 seconds later...
