  • One of the best parts of Metal Gear Solid often goes unspoken about by many. The Briefing tapes give a huge amount of context for so many aspects of Metal Gear Solid's storyline. And if you've never taken the time to watch them, I'm here to tell you why you should.
    Music Used:
    Metal Gear Solid - Introduction
    Metal Gear Solid - Warhead Storage
    Metal Gear Solid - Cavern
    Metal Gear Solid - Intruder 3

    I loved the tapes, but I never noticed that they weren't in chronological order.

    Thos briefing also does what MGS1 does best: Atmosphere. The atmosphere in the briefing is so good. The background noise of the room and the voice acting are so well done that it's amazing how this was released in 1998.

    I probably read the Gamepro Magazine review for this 20 times before I had the game in my hands (I think it had Raziel from Soul Reaver 2 on the cover). Then flipping through the manual on the way home from Toys R Us to soak in as much as I could before popping the disc in the system. Intro cinematic. Amazing. The title screen and music hit. Amazing. I'm not quite 100% on this, but feel like I was one that happened across the briefing videos before pressing play. Scrolling through the menu to see what was there. Anxious to get as much information and lore as I could, and it was in the title. I should probably accept my mission briefing.
    The atmosphere of the game, especially in the late 90s, was just on another level. This thing was absolutely oozing style and cool for a 14 year old. I was all over it. lol

      I was 10 when I had it and remember doing the same, even though as a kid I didn’t understand much of the briefings I was in so much awe. Played it 10 years later again and it gave me goosebumps. What a soundtrack!

    Not on my first playthrough, but one time I got bored and watched them when I was younger. Not bad and a great way to introduce the story without using a lot of resources on the disk (back then, CDs had very little room on them unlike Blu-ray or digital downloads. So they had to compress a lot in)

    I remember watching all of these as a kid, I only saw them once because the game was loaned to me by a friend. As soon as the master collection came out, I replayed all of them and got hit not with nostalgia, but with the same feeling I got the first time I saw them. The music, atmosphere, and pacing of this game is incredible and timeless.

    I'm pretty sure I watched them, but I bought the japanese version when it came out so they were useless, I lost days knocking on every wall before knowing I had to check the back of the cd box to know Meryl's radio frequency. Once at the PAL puzzle, I think I was stuck again till finding the solution on a magazine or gamefaqs...

    Why is snake blonde in this

    • @lexmitchell4402
      @lexmitchell4402 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Snake (in this game at least) is naturally blonde. He cuts and dyes his hair in the briefing once he learns about Liquid Snake, so that people won't confuse them for each other.

    • @eqqx1108
      @eqqx1108 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lexmitchell4402 False, what you said is a widely spread myth. Snake has always been dark haired since the MSX games, and he never says he dyes his hair in the briefing, he only says he cuts his hair. To add to this Solid has dominant genes of Big Boss and dark hair is a dominant trait, opposed to Liquid blonde hair, a recessive trait.
      The light color of the hair here was probably an artistic decision because his hair is reflecting the light above his head and it's mixed with the contrast of the scene that is a dark room

      @@eqqx1108 he never says about coloring his hair, but you can see the briefing on TH-cam, he clearly has blonde hair and the colonel specifically says that they are identical except for a difference in skin tone, no mention of hair. Its just a dumb retcon, happens all the time in these games.
