I mean fair enough. I’ve been waiting for bungie to make a database in game of all the perks in the came and WHAT EXACTLY they do and how they work for years
That’s because most players don’t even know to max their resilience. Perks with numbers/detailed explanations don’t work for the casuals so why clog the screen with it😂
@@phasedthrough3647Sure, but this also creates a loop where the general player base never even learns the more technical aspects of perks or game mechanics. The community as a whole would likely become smarter and more informed if the descriptions were more specific
My condolences then for your sanity as this is the same language they use for every gun or ability in the game. Orb maker mods say a chance but it's actually every 2 kills, etc.
Icebreaker did amaizingly when I slotted it into my stasis osmiomancy warlock build. Everything is frozen, everything ignites, while the snipe has virtually infinite ammo! Worth a shot
@@sechan436I had no idea sun shot did nearly the same per bullet damage as Whisper, and procced ignitions in an infinite loop with ONE shot. Crazy stuff.
This was the exact pairing I imagined. Seems like it would be great in high-end content or anything with champions. And maybe serviceable in a rotation with a B&S heavy weapon
I don't remember it having that sound on the original version. I think they reworked the firing noise for the re-release. (It kind of sounds like a Halo gun, now. To me, it sounds like the covenant sniper rifle now. )
I don't know how many people know this but if you shoot an statis crystal it will cause an ignition so glacier nades aren't a bad option to throw in a crowd and shoot the crystal.
when you shoot a crystal directly, it looks like an ignition, but it sounds like an incandescent explosion, and in my experience it doesn't seem to do ignition-level damage. not sure what's going on.
Will create ignition if the crystal you shoot is the one an enemy is frozen in. If you shoot a crystal that’s attached to the crystal they’re frozen in it’s just an explosion.
10 years ago, this was the very weapon I used to sit in the back left corner to chip away at Valus for half an hour straight to complete my holy trinity of Year 1 Exotics when Gjallarhorn dropped from his corpse. Probably my clearest memory in all of Destiny after all this time, followed by the other holy exotics
It's nice to see you went through the process of testing the water with the gun in a bunch of scenarios and different builds. Feels like a ton of weapon reviews nowadays just show a DPS test on a Lost Sector boss or run something meaningless like Altars of Sorrow to show how "insanely good it is" and calls it a day.
SGA but shattering Stasis Crystals with Icebreaker also counts for causing an Ignition, so it can actually play off of a Glacier Grenade and you just aim for the crystals instead to cause a massive Shatter + Ignition combo on an enemy, which also makes it pair good with a Headstone weapon. (You kind of see this effect in play from the Catalyst puzzle even.) Edit: So actually tested this out and yeah as it was pointed out it doesn't do a full ignition on breaking a crystal and more of does the "Chain Reaction" explosion, so still decent in combination with the crystal shatter but not as strong as I initially thought it was. In a weird way you almost don't want to fall into prioritizing big targets all the time with it because all the big damage comes from causing Ignitions so sometimes it might be better to aim for the red bars around something so you get more explosions, even the body shot explosions chunk decently well and are about 7x stronger than a normal Chain Reaction explosion. (Like for example at 6:01 that would've been a good moment to take a shot at one of the suspended Raiders instead to Ignite and save an ability charge for something bigger.) Overall I like that Icebreaker fits into a unique niche, it was never going to be a high DPS option when Still Hunt both exists in the same slot and is also Solar, so I like that it instead fills this weird addclear Sniper role that lets you blow up whole groups of adds with virtually boundless ammo, and it even gives some room to with build it for Stasis with the Freeze and Shatter synergies or build into Solar to make the Ignitions themselves better, or kinda do both on Prismatic thanks to Facet of Ruin. (Even out of the box it's still an infinite ammo Ignition setter which is pretty good on it's own.) Also can we take a moment to appreciate that they played into the pun of its name and made it a literal Ice Breaker instead of just being a moniker? lol
are you 100% sure shooting a crystal causes an ignition? in my experience, it looks like an ignition, but it sounds like an incandescent explosion, and it doesn't seem to do ignition-level damage. not sure what's going on.
@@aurens. Not fully 100% sure if it's a full ignition I'll admit, but I guess an easy way to test would be to shoot a stasis crystal with ember of char equipped and see if it spreads scorch or not. (Possible it's just doing the body shot explosion.) Edit: Finally tested and yeah you were right it's not an Ignition, it wasn't spreading scorch from Char and it didn't make orbs from Wonder.
It’s icebreakers normal body shot explosion. I don’t believe it scorches but it’s a good damage explosion and shatters almost all the crystals it hits so I still think it’s worth it to run glacier grenade with it.
Headstone demo primary + a way to have devour. About the same if not better if using solar + fragment that spreads scorch from ignition Freeze and ignite the world while doing 360 no scopes.

One thing to consider is that ignitions are bugged right now. Freezing a boss and triggering ignitions over and over HALVES the damage of ignitions each time one is triggered on a single target. Damage is getting snipped off early because of that bug currently
Also, tip for you Datto. For the Metamorphosis Lost Sector, just run Lost Signal. You are able to pelt both Overload Chieftains in one go so that they get stunned and don't one shot you/critical health you. Running single target overload weapons in that room is not worth the time and hassle. Especially since the Scorn like to group rush you down and will standing in your bullshit anyway. The only thing that slows down the run is having to shoot the stupid crystals to expose the Knight's HP. Also, for whatever reason, breaking a Barrier Champion's dome will enable all precision hits to trigger ignitions (spaghetti code?)
Icebreaker is the most fun Ive had with sniping in a WHILE. I got it this past weekend and within 24 hours I had over 1000 kills on it just after 2 games of Onslaught on Europa. Its an ad clear beast in lower-mid level content like that
@@santiklingoits really good in gms against champs and groups too. I finally got it yesterday and using it with ice coat rainment its insane i was getting over 200 kills a gm using the new chill clip double fire grenade launcher and icebreaker.
I think you can make Camdus Ridge Lancecap work without standing behind a barricade 24/7. Shattering crystals and frozen targets spawns enough lances to use in neutral game, and the benefit of getting a crystal to spawn with every throw is the main draw of the exotic IMO.
If for some reason you aren't on a Chill Clip special weapon on a full stasis build, then this makes a good synergy weapon to run in the slot you normally wouldn't have anything too useful to interact with your stasis keywords. Wave frame/area denial GLs can trigger shatter on a lot of stasis crystals or frozen targets you've prepped, but Icebreaker does have a lot of extra damage attached because of the solar ignition.
This is the weapon I've been looking for for a long time, something that can quickly and easily get shatter value out of as many stasis crystals as possible. I've been running it with Mask of Fealty and not even bothering with the 2nd half of the exoic. Just by spawning a crystal on shurikan hit gives you a 2-charge melee that ricoches and instantly freezes everything it hits. Combine with hunter dodge and stasis shards you get as many Withering Blades as you want and infinite fuel for ice breaker. I've only tried it with Glacier grenade, as just a big aoe damage burst by firing unscoped Icebreaker at it, but you could go even more into add clear with Touch of Winter Coldsnaps.
I’m definitely taking out champs in 2 shots on expert lost sectors provided they are frozen (could be facet of ruin / whisper of fissures or overcharged snipe / solar weapon surge) but not using solar surge on the boots. Also Ice Breaker works SO well with the new chill clip sidearm due to the ammo economy. For lost sectors in particular you will NOT run out of ammo.
I really hope this is the start of more inter-element weapons that have interactions outside of their specific element. Imagine a Strand weapons that pulls together weakened enemies, or an Arc weapon that chains lightning on enemies that are suspended.
It's a really fun sniper to use which immediately makes me want to use it, much more than I can say about most exotics. It also feels like it adds a layer of offensiveness to stasis that previously wasn't there since all classes can easily freeze a target and instantly follow through with an ignition now
Like you said, Icebreaker is great for anything it can kill in a shot or two, but using it as your shatter weapon definitely feels like the best use. Very much feels seasonally-locked, but Withering Blade is popular in general, so using it with the new helm should be fun at any time.
IMO the whole point of Ice Breaker is to use it as an opener for attacks or in a damage rotation with envious arsenal. As an opener, you freeze the target and headshot it for a big chunk of damage completely for free cuz of the catalyst, then swap to your primary or heavy, depending in if you're using it for ad clear or damage at that point. Since Ice Breaker has really, really slow RPM, it benefits lots from using it sparingly in a rotation aka something like dumping an entire mag of Chill Inhibitor, then shoot the boss with Ice Breaker (bonus points if you have a Bleak Watcher so the target is slowed or frozen to refund the shot) and finally one more hit with your primary or second special weapon to refill your GL thanks to envious arsenal. You could say this intrudes too much into what Izanagi's does, but it has the benefit of doubling as an ad clear weapon and not having to reload.
Best case scenario i see for it in a dps set up is in a swap dmg set up with bait n switch guns along with consistent slow application for the ammo refund when u swap to it to fire a round. And after u run out of heavy ammo in the scenario its decent backup dmg.
It’s ignitions aren’t moving health bars on bosses. So until that’s fixed I wouldn’t consider it for DPS rotations. However a good use case is swap damage rotations with something like a Chill Clip Liturgy, or Chill Inhibitor, along with a Star-Eater’s Silence and Squall.
Regarding the glacier grenade thing, I just shoot the crystals and it causes the ignitions. It’s my go to weapon for ‘breaking the ice’ and you’re more than able to clear the area with shatter + ignition damage
My verdict on the gun, having used it for less than 200 kills (and counting). Using Stasis? Worth. Not using Stasis? Eh, it's just a sniper rifle you don't have to reload.
I love it just because the one thing that always bothered me about snipers in destiny was they were mostly single target and i always liked having some AOE with my secondaries. This lets me have the best of both worlds with a bit of setup.
Kind of makes you wonder what Exotic we were supposed to get from the new Dungeon with hints of how Ice Breaker was intended for 10th Anniversary/something else.
Once the stasis rocket sidearm drops it'll be much better overall, chill clip slow on one sidearm shot so you can refund ammo more efficiently and cause more ignitions while managing abilities and ammo easily
I wanna pair it with the sniper rifle Locus Locutus, with Discord and Headstone, and the linear fusion rifle Suspectrum-4FR with Backup Plan or Headstone and Chill Clip
You say it doesn't do well against bosses, and I'd agree that it doesn't do well against them "Solo." However, if your playing in a group activity, say a raid, it becomes pretty good. All you need is a Silence and Squall Hunter for good DPS (as you'll constantly proc ignitions) and ironically a Salvations Grip user to put out crystals at the bosses feet so when the boss does ignite it shatters the crystals doing even more damage.
I’m curious how Ice Breaker may pair with Tinasha’s Mastery. A rocket sidearm and Ice Breaker seems like very good ammo economy, and having Chill Clip on the sidearm would synergise well with Ice Breaker’s Stasis synergies
I love the look, the feel, the sound. But I got a dungeon GL with demo attrition orbs and using that to lay into big bads and then using something like outbreak perfected just feels more useful in more situations. And it dramatically helps my team more.
I don't hate it, I don't wish it never existed, but lore wise Dreg's Promise would have been a better choice. A dream to have 1000 arms, a main boss that's explained to be linked to all the Fallen in the raid, and those fallen being called his many arms......
i dont get the boner for dregs promise. its whole gimmick was that it was a three round burst sidearm in D1, and it was the only one. we have a ton of those in D2 now, AND they dont have travel time bullets like dregs promise did. like i just dont get what that gun was doing that 20 legendary sidearms arent doing better now
@@udontknowme00 They could make it a burst rocket sidearm (seeing as it shot fairly slow projectiles in D1) with inherent Beacon Rounds (they buffed it to have tracking at some point), and then you could do some Arc keyword stuff for its perks and catalyst. There's so much room for it to improve into something actually good in this game
@@jacobkern2060 we're just describing a new gun though. why does this need to be dreg's promise? does that make it better than it would be if it was a brand new gun? at least icebreaker stuck to its D1 identity of making its own ammo. what's dreg's identity? that it was a burst fire sidearm?
I would have liked to see some mechanism for sustained damage with other weapons to regen ammo at an appropriate rate so it could be an option for “out of ammo” dps situations instead of just putting on outbreak every time
Icebreaker has a hidden perk where if you shoot a stasis crystal, it will explode as if it’s a body shot kill. So you can just pop your glacier grenade and get 2 aoe explosions for 0 precision effort
Something you didnt consider is that this is a great weapon for prismatic builds. When i try and use a stasis build on prismatic i find i have NO light energy and have to not use a headstone or chill clip weapon. But icebreaker lets me build into light damage while having synergy. No other weapon does.
Yeah, I was specifically thinking it'd do great on the Prismatic Liar's Handshake build, since it takes care of long ranged damage and will get plenty of procs thanks to Winter's Shroud
I’ve found that using it with behemoth where I’m able to freeze a bunch of enemies it’s really good for ad clear and chunking tougher enemies. Ran a few master lost sectors and the champs were giving me a lot of trouble but it was manageable. Fantastic in onslaught though you can wipe entire groups on spawn.
its definitely fun to use in normal activities, I'm pairing it with my prismatic calibans/coyote class item. its a fire and ice combo using stasis effects to slow and freeze and gun powder gamble as additional explosions
my point stands, the new archetype does help, i can get a legendary with discord/incandescent and i dont know if i will like the new archetype, that it takes special bricks too it's so bad, you are almost always gonna get less ammo for your other special for only 1 bullet, the catalyst helps but i never use freeze builds so its all just all against me would absolutely much prefer the og one, sure it would be mid, but it would be the best mid there is and would fit in all builds without it being not optimal, easy as it can be to use, the one we have now outside of a freeze builds, doesnt work as good and kinda ruins running double special, doesnt really do a thing for bosses if there are no ads to kill/you dont focus on them, and by that point i can run anything and get green ammo, discord, special finisher, scavengers, alethonym, aeon, cenotaph and im sure im missing some things still baffles me that they would drop the "infinite" ammo sniper when we just got the ammo generating gl that doesnt use ammo at all, wild
The ammo and ignitions are a cool change, but it sounds like they neutered the weapon from its D1 counterpart. I don't have the weapon so I don't know because of having no experience with it. That's just how it sounds from the outside looking in.
I still think it’s a little sad we didn’t get icebreaker in the previous act when we had sniper rifles being boosted with our artifact. People may have been a little more hyped for it upon its release if they did.
I'm actually kinda glad that for the most part dungeon and raid exotics are just kinda "Okay". There are some exceptions but for the most part they're just decent but not mind blowing. And I think that's good. It makes it sting less when you do it 40 times and don't get it.
Icebreaker with the new iron banner rocket sidearm with chill clip will be my goto combo. Just got pray the sidearm actually drops for me when iron banner does come around.
they should've given it a polaris lance like trait and a lesser cooldown on the catalyst and people would actually love it instead of forcing themselves to make it an adclear sniper
Personally, I want Icebreaker to see if I can make a build where I can use it as a primary weapon then run two Envious Arsenal weapons in my other slots
I'm out of D2 right now but this seems really cool. Just watched to help out my boy Datto but I'll definitely have to pick this up if I get back into D2.
I feel like it should cause ignitions on multiple headshots like how cloudstrike works. ITs fun to use to clear ads but thats kinda it. Some extra damage against the big enemies like champions would be nice
Until ignition damage resistance is changed in november I can’t really see myself using it :(((. Ex Diris can accomplish a lot of the same as Icebreaker as a mothman hunter + buffed overshield
yall, u can just use bleak watcher, duskfield, or any other ability to keep refreshing slow to frozen status on a boss and hitting shots with icebreaker will keep refunding ammo and causing ignitions. It can be great for boss dps, you just need to build into it.
Well right now ignitions are bugged so it's not great, when it's fixed it will be an option for sure, sorta, but it still so slow idk if great is the right word, serviceable would be.

Regarding the glacier grenade thing, I just shoot the crystals and it causes the ignitions. It’s my go to weapon for ‘breaking the ice’ and you’re more than able to clear the area with shatter + ignition damage
Running mask of Fealty with icebreaker, and waiting for revenant ult to freeze a boss to shatter/ignite for dps is a new experience that I've enjoyed
That Manscaped ad set to the Diddy Kong Racing music is pretty great. 😂
i love how datto ads are just a bonus skit in the vid
My verdict on the gun, having used it for less than 200 kills (and counting).
Using Stasis? Worth.
Not using Stasis? Eh, it's just a sniper rifle you don't have to reload.
I love it just because the one thing that always bothered me about snipers in destiny was they were mostly single target and i always liked having some AOE with my secondaries. This lets me have the best of both worlds with a bit of setup.
This goes nuts with Dawn Chorus
Kind of makes you wonder what Exotic we were supposed to get from the new Dungeon with hints of how Ice Breaker was intended for 10th Anniversary/something else.
Floating in the void... If only more content creators were this creative for their infromercials
Datto discovering that the gun designed to work with Stasis is better and more interesting when you use it with Stasis...
:O
You say it doesn't do well against bosses, and I'd agree that it doesn't do well against them "Solo."
However, if your playing in a group activity, say a raid, it becomes pretty good.
Keep in mind the ignition bugged across the board the damage of it are less of what supposed to be
I don't hate it, I don't wish it never existed, but lore wise Dreg's Promise would have been a better choice. A dream to have 1000 arms, a main boss that's explained to be linked to all the Fallen in the raid, and those fallen being called his many arms......
i dont get the boner for dregs promise. its whole gimmick was that it was a three round burst sidearm in D1, and it was the only one. we have a ton of those in D2 now, AND they dont have travel time bullets like dregs promise did. like i just dont get what that gun was doing that 20 legendary sidearms arent doing better now
@@udontknowme00 it could be brought back as a 3 round burst rocket sidearm, and then give it another new perk (like how icebreaker got the explosions)
@@sophieirisviel4100 bonus perk could be a better Beacon Rounds, to match up with the tracking of the OG
The dungeon area denial GL helps with this as well, the same way Lost Signal helps builds that struggle to build dark energy
2:18 datto is pretty 350 days of the year 💜
*the 15 is to allow for days of exceptional beauty and/or days when the bed rot consumes you
I’ve found that using it with behemoth where I’m able to freeze a bunch of enemies it’s really good for ad clear and chunking tougher enemies. Ran a few master lost sectors and the champs were giving me a lot of trouble but it was manageable. Fantastic in onslaught though you can wipe entire groups on spawn.
The best feeling special slot exotic in YEARS
with stasis builds ,like the new icefall mantles, its s tier. infinite ammo and ignitions. as well as one shotting every red bar in any activity
11:07 did the man forget you can get ignitions from shooting the crystals?
its definitely fun to use in normal activities, I'm pairing it with my prismatic calibans/coyote class item. its a fire and ice combo using stasis effects to slow and freeze and gun powder gamble as additional explosions
I was literally about to click off and then Datto started floating in the void and kept me on the video
my point stands, the new archetype does help, i can get a legendary with discord/incandescent and i dont know if i will like the new archetype, that it takes special bricks too it's so bad, you are almost always gonna get less ammo for your other special for only 1 bullet, the catalyst helps but i never use freeze builds so its all just all against me
would absolutely much prefer the og one, sure it would be mid, but it would be the best mid there is and would fit in all builds without it being not optimal, easy as it can be to use, the one we have now outside of a freeze builds, doesnt work as good and kinda ruins running double special, doesnt really do a thing for bosses if there are no ads to kill/you dont focus on them, and by that point i can run anything and get green ammo, discord, special finisher, scavengers, alethonym, aeon, cenotaph and im sure im missing some things
still baffles me that they would drop the "infinite" ammo sniper when we just got the ammo generating gl that doesnt use ammo at all, wild
I remember cheesing my first nightfall strikes with Icebreaker. Good times.
The ammo and ignitions are a cool change, but it sounds like they neutered the weapon from its D1 counterpart. I don't have the weapon so I don't know because of having no experience with it. That's just how it sounds from the outside looking in.
They should have given it intrinsic Anti Barrier
I still think it’s a little sad we didn’t get icebreaker in the previous act when we had sniper rifles being boosted with our artifact. People may have been a little more hyped for it upon its release if they did.
Realistically, Ice Breaker should have come last season alongside the sniper artifact mods, but I'm still trying to get it
Wait, this special sniper rifle ALSO triggers an ignition on basic precision kills? That's a massive slap on the face of my poor DARCI.
It's my favorite thing to run in full onslaught runs
I like to think that icebreaker in d2 is a primary weapon that promotes slaying out. Kill things to get ammo to kill more things with ammo.
I really REALLY like this exotic, it might have something to do with the damage buffs snipers got this season.
Glad cause im not doing all those puzzles to unlock the catalyst
Low-key wanna use this thing with Icefall Mantle as an ignition printer🤔
Personally, I want Icebreaker to see if I can make a build where I can use it as a primary weapon then run two Envious Arsenal weapons in my other slots
I remember how top-tier this was in D1
If you have to call a gun an "experience" then it probably isn't good
I like it with the Rimecoat exotic. It's pretty fun. But not having good stasis legendary primary options makes it kinda rough.
Aaa yes... Let me freeze a single redbar and then shoot it with special weapon...
Typical Datto 😂
I'm out of D2 right now but this seems really cool. Just watched to help out my boy Datto but I'll definitely have to pick this up if I get back into D2.
Just got this to drop for me yesterday, I’ve been enjoying it with on my warlock stasis build with osmi gloves
Ignitions being bugged is severely hurting ice breaker.
yall, u can just use bleak watcher, duskfield, or any other ability to keep refreshing slow to frozen status on a boss and hitting shots with icebreaker will keep refunding ammo and causing ignitions. It can be great for boss dps, you just need to build into it.
Well right now ignitions are bugged so it's not great, when it's fixed it will be an option for sure, sorta, but it still so slow idk if great is the right word, serviceable would be.
I'm willing to make the gun harder to get ammo for something like a whisper damage buff
Ah yes, another gun that RNG will never give me. Good thing I still have the destiny 1 version
It might not be the most meta weapon but it’s a ton of fun to use and I’m really enjoying it
I've found that it works well as a special Izanagi like swap rotation. Also to break crystals
i've been rocking icebreaker with lucky pants and it feels great.
Aren’t ignitions bugged to underperform currently? Ice Breaker will improve with ignitions once they’re fixed
and here i was thinking i made a unique fun build that wouldnt get a lot of attention
Think should be like conditional add chill clip to it. Has both freeze and ignitions
