      This was a triumph!
      I'm making a note here:
      "huge success!!"
      It's hard to overstate
      My satisfaction.
      Aperture science:
      We do what me must
      Because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
      But there's no sense crying
      Over every mistake.
      You just keep on trying
Till you run out of cake.
      And the science gets done.
And you make a neat gun
      For the people who are
      Still alive.
      I'm not even angry...
I'm being so sincere right now-
Even though you broke my heart,
      And killed me.
      And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you!
      Now, these points of data
      Make a beautiful line.
      And we're out of beta.
      We're releasing on time!
So i'm glad i got burned-
Think of all the things we learned-
      For the people who are
      Still alive.
      Go ahead and leave me...
I think i'd prefer to stay inside...
      Maybe you'll find someone else
      To help you?
      Maybe black mesa?
That was a joke! haha!! fat chance!!
      Anyway this cake is great!
      It's so delicious and moist!
      Look at me: still talking
      When there's science to do!
      When i look out there,
It makes me glad i love you.
      I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
      On the people who are
      Still alive.
      And believe me i am
      Still alive.
      I'm doing science and i'm
      Still alive.
      I feel fantastic and i'm
      Still alive.
      While you're dying i'll be
      Still alive.
And when you're dead i will be
      Still alive.
      Still alive.
      Still alive.

    • @spencereng
      @spencereng 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

"Because this thing is totally fit for combat..." Use your imagination... The side panels would essentially be made of movable tank armor offering the ultimate protection, and there would be a weapon system that would stick out when needed and be hidden when not. It could come in different sizes, have different weapon systems and payloads, some could be used as suicide or kamikaze balls. Also, if I was paranoid, I'd be like "I hope they don't turn this into a killing machine" I'm just the opposite.

This pretty darn amazing! If they could scale the tech up so that it could contain a human passenger/operator within a gyroscopically-stabilised cockpit, it could prove to be an excellent all-terrain solution. I could even see potential here for each individual leg to incorporate an inflatable ballute system to allow it to tread water.

This is really impressive. Unfortunately, I could definitely see the military applications, so I hope you are an anti-war kinda person. On the more noble side, this would be a PERFECT platform for a planetary exploration lander, especially if you incorporated shock absorbers into it in such a way that it could basically be dropped from altitude without doing any harm to the internals. I hope NASA sees this, and if not, you should definitely get a hold of them. Nice work!

Very interesting. I was impressed by the various means of locomotion. When I saw it I couldn't help thinking of an alien biological form, especially when it was flaring at the child as if to bluff by making it's body seem larger. Given the sphere could roll downhill both intentionally and as a defensive maneuver against damage, It made me think that it might be an interesting probe design for space exploration although I think it would need to right itself better. Thanks for the video.

Can have quite a few applications, militarization of the machine seems fairly promising, enlarge it to tank size, mortar installed on the top, d30 filled, or bullet proof glass plating, minituarize it for something like a walking mine, or other explosive

You could use that for rescue or remote viewing. Toss it into a place you can't get to and then use a remote control and a camera to roll around.

I was just talking with one of the sales guys at Boca Bearings about the contest and your robot. He mentioned that the prize was a 3D printer from Makerbot. Coincidentally, I was ordering parts for the "3in1 Extruder Upgrade" for the Makerbot. It might be of interest to you now that you own one. Good job on your robot designs!

Add two web cams at each pole and you really got something. How does it compare to the snake bots and the spider bots in terms of complexity and power consumption?
Desert environment come to mind, allow it to roll via wind power. How sensitive to dust and grit? Pipes come to mind too. Liquid resistance?

Think how that would look if you intermittently colored the segments. Like a beach ball! That'd be fun.

Crickey, not only is this awesome but with some adaption it could be pretty dam useful to if you could fit foldable tools under the covering.
It's just plain cool though all by itself which seems reason enough for it to exist. Kudos.

Tetra-Dittos! Positively Unique! Endlessly Fascinating! With all of the future possibilities for exploration and teaching through science and technology - I am constantly shocked when others first thoughts are to wage war. President Ronald Ray-Guns said; If people were faced annihilation from another world - Earth's people would rise up and unite.

It'd be cool if you could build it to bounce into and out of a hole (ex. it fell into a crevasse while exploring). Right now, I see some very interesting all terrain potential, but being able to bounce would help a lot.

Now this is pretty awesome. I imagine that if it could move more quickly in any direction, kick itself upright and over low things, and get up to 10+ mph with a gallop/roll, this little machine would be perfect. At that point I'd gladly pay whatever the price tag was to own one as a toy.

Hmm, there is potential military application. The outer shell could serve as armor. There could also be versions of it built to be tossed to be used for recon or a mobile explosive device. How much did the materials and stuff cost for it?

Maybe use a gyroscope to roll instead of the legs. That way it can roll while fully closed. And if you used waterproofing on the joints it could float maybe and go over water using fins that could push out through the plastic. It could be all-terrain
