    Hey Bite, I appreciate the videos.
    I repeatably underestimate how much there is to digest in his lectures when I revisit them later,
    so these brief 'cliff notes' help a lot. Just wanted to say thanks.

      Yeah. But a lot of young ppl who struggle, such as myself, have been using bad methods to cope with life.
      Therefore realizing somthing painfully obvious really made want to state this. Maybe it hasn't come thru the lack of pronunciation.

    It was a long journey, a hard one and a bitter one. Yes there is sadness in being a man, but it is a proud thing too. And out of the suffering, and the starvation, and the wrong and the right, a new thing has come: a free man.

    I'm thinking my first tattoo will be 'in sterquiliniis invenitur'. I'm in recovery from addiction so it is very relevant. Tackling your inner pain, as jbp says, is what modern psychology suggests to overcome addiction and hardship. Addiction is mostly just an attempt to control or run from internal turmoil. I also really appreciate Buddhism and it's philosophy which suggests you can overcome suffering by turning towards it with love and forgiveness instead of the natural evolutionary urge to avoid pain and cling to pleasure. A path that is "against the stream" as Buddha said.

    I feel that the belly of the beast IS or can be the group of friends or acquaintances...
    The person my have well read the group accurately or there may have been no error on their part, the error lays with those who had such low tolerance that they form the belly of the beast. The only error might be that that person may feel bad for being shunned. Or of course they may have acted in error etc...

  • @steef4000000
    @steef4000000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    easier said then done since when you do something wrong with a group it isn't necessarily wrong its just the wrong people you exhibit that behavior to
    and sometimes people say things others hate but that might get people thinking or open discussion.
    so in the end its the question how you view and deal with that negative feedback.
    since social rules aren't fixed they are flexible and can be even changed to some degree if you have enough confidence and social influence/power

    My understanding of the Dragon was always 'it blew the first flame' that fire element of perception or quasi awareness. Tree of life QBL stuff. All the dragon myths (having this interpretation first) always in my perception seemed to be a reappropriation of this element of fire 'how one is perceived' as pre edwards bernays version of understanding propaganda. Funny.

    I would love an explination of the link between the biblical Jonah story and the classic dragon story. I ask this in seriousness, I am sure Dr. Peterson has a good reason to make this link, but I myself do not see this specific connection as of yet.
    Is the connection at a higher level? Or is it specifically in reference to the whale?

    I think this needs to be viewed in light of the Fred Flintstone paradigm. Fred is a caveman; he's not particularly intelligent or handsome, but he does take care of his family.
    And why shouldn't he? He ought to bloody-well take care of his family, whether he's a caveman or not -- that's important!

      Simple Simon noticed that too, it's crazy to juxtapose his looks from older videos and more recent videos (after the infamous pronoun videos went viral). It's clear life since those videos has done a number on him. You can see a noticeable weight loss and loss of color from his face. Has to be related to the stress he's been under. Between backlash on the campus of his school, his own colleagues, youtubers, and still trying to do his job, his stress has gotta be dialed up to 11. That kind of battle wears a person down. I appreciate what he is doing but I wouldn't want to be in his place.

    The story of unfunny joke is likely his own story, when he's 14 years old.. (should be about 1980s) after that mistake/failure he's angry and doing some painting of a religious figure with a snake on his belt. He was astonished and feeling weird about it. I think from there his life "journey" to underworld started. His worldview changed. He start hating the "left" conscious and unconsciously, when before this he was socialist party member himself, even trying to be the leader. Marxism and socialism frequently creep into young minds with their revolution narrative and class struggles.
    Maybe he know his enemy since then, and battling them mentally and intellectually. And then USSR happen, the cold war, etc happen and his life hypothesis about marxism justified.

    I love these videos, but you should try to bring in some more diversity. There's some really great stuff from Stefan Molyneux for example, or even snippets from audiobooks of Nietszche and other philosophers that Jordan Peterson refers to (there's a great website to get these from, its called librevox/booksshouldbefree). Again, I love every single video and its incredible. It would just be awesome to have some more variety.

    • @BitesizedPhilosophy
      @BitesizedPhilosophy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      The thing is I would need to ask them all for permission like I asked Dr. Peterson. I want to finish all the lectures I find interesting first, then I might send out some emails asking if I can take short clips from them. Same problem goes for audiobooks even from classics, I don't think the publisher would be happy with that. I wish it was different, but I don't want all this work get destroyed because of copy right strikes.

    • @TM-fr7gh
      @TM-fr7gh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Makes sense, but I don't think you'd have many issues with getting permission from Stefan Molyneux so long as you provided a link to his donation page or something. I think its brilliant to condense down these dense lectures into digestible pieces and if this channel grows enough then you'd be able to get permission from those publishers, someday, lol.

    • @JamesR23

      Keep doing what you're doing. I couldn't help but feel a loss of credibility if you started uploading Molyneux.

    • @TM-fr7gh
      @TM-fr7gh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would there be a loss in credibility? Like yeah, sometimes his stuff is pretty damn shaky but he's made some good points and his logic tends to be sound. Again, doesn't mean everything he says is right or true, but even the most reprehensible idiot has said something with philosophical value at some point. Surprising to see someone using ad hominem on a niche philosophy channel comment section...
