Probably because 3d is dead tech. It's not profitable and is expensive to implement. Would you actually want that? For 700-900 dollars JUST to watch a handful of crap movies in 3d? Be realistic lol!
Virtual theater would be amazing. That should be a must. Have a little theater where you can pick your own seat and watch, or from different seats, run around while the movie’s playing or get popcorn or some cool stuff like that… would be tits, I’d pay for that. I guess it wouldn’t be able to support having friends due to copyright and bs laws but still to have a virtual theatre to yourself with the psvr2 would be 🔥
Because it's 2nd generation, I was expecting the cinema mode for the PSVR2 to include a feature where you see movies in a virtual movie theater setting like on the PC. But no. Just the same thing featured on the first headset. A giant screen just hanging over a dark void.🙄🙄🙄
I tried watching Netflix on the PSVR2, but I honestly had to sober up a bit to find that I noticed this weird "cloth effect" view there as well. Yes, the screen is bigger than my TV, but it does not come close to the picture. Therefore, I prefer to use my 4k TV for movies.
Bigscreen has to come to the PSVR2. It just has to, that app is amazing! Too bad you can't load your movies into your headset like the Quest 2. I've been enjoying many 4K and 3D films this way.

I'm sure hoping they add 3D Blu ray support in the future. I would be happy to pay for the service. It's so annoying having to drag the old ps4 and old headset out every time i want to watch a 3D movie
When talking about Cinematic Mode, I kept saying “ten hundred eighty pixels” don’t know why I kept saying that, it’s 1080p “one thousands eighty pixels” I’m so used to speaking Japanese that I’m slipping up on my English 😂
I built up a large 3d movie collection specifically for the original PSVR, so it was disappointing that the PSVR2 didn't get the 3d feature, cause having to switch over to the older model is just annoying.
Oh nice! Yeah, I ended up buying a 3D projector and large screen for watching 3D movies. It's not as immersive as the headsets, but at least I can watch movies with family.
Regarding the resolution of cinematic mode, isn’t the drop simply because it can’t use the entire screen for that? It would be unwatchable if a movie completely filled your peripheral vision by going out to the edge of the screen, so you’ve got a 1080p area in the middle of your vision. At least, that’s how I read it. I do agree that 3D support would be great.
@@blazinreviews2393 JD is correct, it's 4k when using the entire FOV. A screen is reduced size so it's scientifically impossible to have 4k on a reduced screen.
PSVR2 no 3D movies support, thats the ultimate fail! Quest 2 has it and its awesome, imagine when Quest 3 releases later this year it will be even better.
I'm waiting for sony to release an app of them or bigscreen! since I bought the glasses I'm waiting for them to do that, the closest to a cinema experience I had, was in a part playing Resident Evil 8, when you have to put some cinema tapes, and with that I realized the enormous potential they could have.

I have an app on PS5 that let's you watch everything from 3D/Stereoscopic, 180 and 360 videos. All functionality is complete, I'm just in the polish and make it look cool phase now. Hopefully I can fill this void. Makes me curious though as to why nobody has done this for PS5 in 4 years. Either nobody is interested or Sony strikes it down. I'll know very soon.
@@Bossix84 I mean, the movie would probably be shown in theater mode, but each eye has the different perspective to create the 3D effect. Like watching a 3D movie with the glasses.
Correct, but they can super-sample. And it would certainly be higher res than 1080p. If you've tried 4K video in the HP Reverb G2 at 2080x2080, you can see that it is vastly sharper than 1080p in that headset even though the headset has nowhere near 3840x2160 pixels per eye. Even 1080p in the G2 looks vastly sharper than PSVR2 1080p cinematic mode. I like a lot of things about PSVR2, but the picture quality for movies is terrible.
What I’d like to know is what happened to the TH-cam app’s VR support like PSVR1 did? Granted for a time the VR UI stopped working, had to deal with the standard mode but VR videos worked, just not PSVR2 for whatever reason.

well, the hardware tech isn't downgrading ( hardware technicality), 3d movies are formatted to be clamped at 1080 p because the movies have to be projected twice (as you mentioned), once per eye thus doubling the amount of data that is required.
