  • The Magpul American Hunter stock for short action Ruger American rifles is worth every penny. It's the singe best upgrade you can make to these rifles IMO.

      good shooting buffalo. based on the shaking of the target camera, i'd say wind was a definite factor. nice to see the stock performs as good as it looks. think i have to get one of those.

    "Hello guys and gals". My favorite intro on YT. I tell you it's always like coming home. Good to see this follow up video. That's pretty darn accurate for the cost of the rifle and factory ammo. A guy with some reloading equipment and patience, and components, could shrink that group to half that size. Maybe even smaller. Happy New Year!

    My main issue with the Magpul Hunter is weight. Holy cow, that thing adds almost 2lbs of additional weight to the Ruger American over the stock setup. Thanks for the video.

    • @rowdybroomstick1216
      @rowdybroomstick1216 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's why so many people just bedded the stocks I think. I was fortunate that I waited until they made some minor improvement's and my barrel doesn't touch anywhere down the barrel like some guys I've seen at the range, but if for some reason I start having issues I'll likely just glass bed it. That's way cheaper than the Magpul stock.

    • @BazonBlades
      @BazonBlades 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's funny that Magpul calls the stock "hunter" but it really isn't suited for hunting. At least not specialized for hunting. It's more of a tacti-cool/precision rifle stock. In that respect the extra weight is advantageous.

    • @jimyeats
      @jimyeats 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@rowdybroomstick1216 Yeah I made some tweaks to my American stock and it works fine. Almost $300 bucks and more weight isn’t appealing to me for the Magpul stock when the whole point of the rifle is to be a light and inexpensive hunter.

    • @jimyeats
      @jimyeats ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @leonwilcox2737 Well, it's a budget rifle. You're aware of the shortfalls going into it. Adding a stock that costs the same as the rifle and adds 2 lbs sort of defeats the purpose of the rifle.

    • @NickVTA
      @NickVTA ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Leon Wilcox agreed and I feel more comfortable shooting my rifle using the Magpul stock on top of my hunting pack then shooting the stock that came with the Ruger on my hunting pack.

    Don't even worry about those comments buddy. Your realism and truthfulness are definitely shown in all your videos. I reviewed the same rifle a years back and said the same thing. You hit the nail on the head as their a price point rifle. Corners have to be cut to meet that price. Ruger did the smart thing and skimped on the stock instead of the barreld action. Keep up the good work, look forward to your videos in 2021..

    Great point about the demand we put on manufacturers for cheap rifles. People demand it, then get upset about the quality-and have to customize it to suite their needs...which amounts to closer to the price of a nicer rifle.

    Got the same stock for my Remington 700SPS TAC. Totally agree in your conclusions. The Remington original stock was also very poor quality and the barrel was not free floated, which meant that when shooting from a tripod the stock pressed against the barrel. I could see a huge difference in precision after I mounted the magpul. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Denmark ;-)

    I actually bought the Ruger American "Hunter" in 6.5 CM, which comes with the Magpul stock you have there. And yes, it's a nice stock! That rifle is a tack driver. And you're right, Ruger has to compete, so they cut corners. But that Predator, for what it is, still does a pretty good job even in the current form. My Ruger Predator in 6mm CM shoots great. It was satisfactory enough that I never opted to change the stock out. Maybe that is an option for later. But for now, it does what I need it to do, at the ranges I use it. Great video, alway straight and honest the way we like it. Oh, and maybe folks should view your entire video before making scathing comments.

    One of the main reasons I'm a huge fan of your channel is (2:29) because you aren't afraid to criticize a company simply because they have been good to you in the past. I also love Ruger, they are a great American company BUT it doesn't mean I like everything about all their firearms. If you said how great the Ruger American was without addressing some of its obvious deficiencies, the same people would call you a sellout and say that you're afraid to criticize Ruger because they sponsor you or some other nonsense. Stand strong Buffalo, there are too many keyboard cowboys that would be afraid to commit one way or another if they had a YT channel. I watch channels and creators reviewing a firearm that just about everyone knows is definitely sub par but these reviewers minimize the weak points or actually praise a sub par firearm. I do not subscribe to those sellouts, no matter how popular their channel may be. Great video, as usual.
    BTW, for people that are 2A enthusiasts and may have been affected by Covid or just want a change, Ruger is hiring right now.

    My son bought a Ruger American in .308 and I shot it a couple times. It too was a package gun, with the scope, and it too has that flimsy stock. I also found its recoil to very uncomfortable. For my son's birthday I took that thing to my local, trusted gunsmith and had the muzzle threaded and a good muzzle brake installed. That toned that recoil down a lot. Now I am considering getting him a chassis for it.

    Very well done video and great stock!!
    I put one on my wife's .243 and she couldn't be happier! Her main requirements were LOP and LIGHT WEIGHT!
    The cheek risers work perfectly, and though you have to sometimes buy extras to get a perfect fit, they are significantly lighter than a fully adjustable riser. My wife put a thin piece of it he's a foam on hers because it was a little cold and she had a hard time getting a good cheek weld.
    As we all know, it's hard to hit light weight while at the same time not having some whippy noodle of a stock. I think MagPul nailed it here. The only very minor bugaboo on the Magpul is the inability to easily add a mono pod. It can certainly be done through a stud, but for such a well-thought out product, I think they missed this minor point.
    Of course only the MagPul offers a Ruger version, but I also really like the similar offerings from MDT XRS and the KRG Bravo.
    I shoot a KRG Whiskey-3 chassis, and to be entirely honest, I wouldn't think twice about using any these on my rifles--especially if I have to carry it in the field any type of distance.

    That was a REALLY excellent video. You've about got me sold on one in .223. I want to be able to shoot cheap factory ammo, and I figure a fire-formed hand load will really do well in it, even if the cartridge isn't as inherently accurate as 6.5 Creed.
    I think maybe the factory stock would be preferable for hunting, as it's lighter. Just avoid the hasty hold so you don't bend the stock.

    I only own Rugers. I own 2 predators 1 in 223 and 1 in 6.5cm (and rprr in 22lr) and they all are sub moa guns out of the box with the right ammo. I cant put my 223 in the magpul stock with the Jard trigger i have because it doesn't fit in the stock so i run it on my creedmoor and its awesome now and well balanced

    mod the rifle with magpul sling bipod and decent scope more than double the cost probably same price as great euro rifles, I have been pricing these bits for the predator add trigger and cheek adds plenty

    Awesome grouping and love the looks of that weapon.

    Heck of a group, didn't think a chassis could improve your accuracy at 100yds that much. (with everything else being the same).

    I have had this same rifle for about 3 years and i like it just the way it is. I shoot half inch groups with it too. I use mine for hunting and the stock you put on it does not look like it would be good for hunting

    Thank you for this review. I am contemplating this model in 22-250. I realize now without the better stock it’s a non starter. I may put a heavy barrel on my Husqvarna 270 instead.

    I love my Rugar American. It has to be the best you can get for 350 bucks, plus a 30 dollar nico-sterling scope and it will perform better than most people can shoot.

    At first I wondered about the placement of that first shot, then I remembered you said it's your friends rifle and it was set up by him. Thus, that was actually a good group as it maintained reasonable consistency across all five shots. I really hope people aren't saying otherwise, if so they obviously aren't thinking it through. Also, that looks like the exact setup I want for a bolt action .308, only thing is I may not want the bipod as it would largely be a hunting rifle, but I would enjoy getting into long range shooting. Awesome looking rifle and it seems to work well both ergonomically and in performance.

    My Ruger American Predator .308 shoots groups like that. Great gun for the money. May have to get a magpul stock though.

    great stock now but the cost of upgrades will make other options more sense like european rifles like Bergara, Sauer and Tikka/ CVA

    Great groupings. I wish there was a good option for a wood stock for my Ruger American.

    Wow, for a factory rifle with OTC ammo that is exceptional. Never, never sell an accurate factory rifle as they are more of an exception than the rule. I once had an old 12 twist .223 that shot really good and I sold it for what I paid for it (fast twists were in) . Years later I bought a couple more in sequence and I sold those too because they weren't that
    accurate. Ten or more years ago I bought a Rem VTR and it is the most accurate .223 factory rifle I've shot to date. I would only let that go to family or friends.
