I've always wondered how 1,000 different graders (with 1,000 different sets of eyes) can have any real type of consistency. Add on to that they may be overworked, negative personal bias against certain players, having a bad day etc. I think computer based grading is the wave of the future. Very excited about what TAG GRADING is bringing to the table. They also have the best looking slabs in the game - by far.

That Aljo and Grant Dawson laser are sick! This company really does seem to be the future of grading, they’ve solved so many of the issues. The 1-1000 grading, very open with telling you the imperfections, visually a beaut, sending you the box before shipping, putting them in packs has to make it so much more fun. The question is will the masses buy these close to PSA range? Resale premium and more lax grading seems to be the only reason people keep subbing to PSA. What time table do you think they need to get the notoriety for the masses to respect them? Thanks for making this video I’ve been wondering about the ins and outs.
Thanks Zach 🙏 Hard to say what kind of timetable TAG would need to have close to the resale value of PSA. It all depends on if they can spread the word about their product. My plan is just to keep an eye on sale prices for the rest of this year and see what happens.

Joe, a sincere thank you so much for the absolutely stellar video review! We are so glad that you see and appreciate all of the effort, thought, and care we have put into making a bona fide, automated grading system that values transparency and giving each collector all of the info they deserve. It has been a long road, over 10 years of developing the technology, 4 awarded patents, and we are just getting started! In regards to your resale comments, we are actively monitoring and recording our secondary market sales and the comps-- it has been extremely exciting for us to watch them climb. As of last week, across all sports, our Buy It Now sales are actually (on average) going toe to toe with PSA. Fanatics has also started selling TAG slabs on their platform with very promising sales. Where we need most secondary market improvement (which we feel confident will come in time), is in the Auction space; SEO is critical to getting auction listings seen and bid on. The TAG name still needs to grow in order for the SEO to improve and get the actual auction listings seen. We are encouraging people who are selling TAG slabs to list using Buy it Now due to the nature of search engine optimization; at the end of the day, at auction, if something doesn't get seen it is much more likely to sell for a steeply discounted price. TAG is growing quickly, each Grading Drop we do increases in capacity and continues to sell out within 20 or so minutes. We love the "TAG You're It" challenge-- you and LilB have inspired us to start a channel in the TAG Community Discord so that others may do the same. We have many exciting updates coming soon in regards to the Leaderboards that will make these challenges even more exciting. Ultimately, one of the aims of TAG is to decentralized grading-- we want collectors to support local card shops and take their cards there to have them slabbed in person using the TAG technology. Sub kits and mail in service will still be available, but it is our aim to do right by collectors and make grading accessible, timely, accurate, and affordable to all. We began building this company over 10 years ago because we are collectors ourselves and we want to build the transparent grading service that we ourselves would want to use. Thank you again, we hope you continue to support TAG as we will Joe's Card Stache!
Thanks so much for the comment guys. I was very happy to highlight what you guys are doing because I think it’s very exciting (and MUCH needed in the grading space) and it is true. My comment about the value on the secondary market WAS mainly based on auctions I had seen on eBay. And it makes sense that searching issues would impact those values. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for your company. I’ll continue to try to spread the word about TAG. Also, I love the idea of decentralized grading as well!
By sharing your technology with local card shops is 1) there are more counties in America that don’t have card shops then do- will leave collectors with no option 2) this will lead to higher grading cost for consumers because you know the shops will want a cut of the pie as well. Also I think some of the factors leading to low resale prices of Tag cards is the fact that many submitters are not sending in high value/in demand cards that PSA and SGC are currently receiving. Personally those are the ones I am sending in 1) to make them stand out in the Tag crowd 2) those are the only cards worth sending in at the current $25 all access price point (which is the only service I will potentially use from now once since the drop method just leaves me frustrated from not getting in and and I’m done wasting get my time on that) For collectors who are looking at Tag strategically it will make sense to send cards of players who are “rumored” to be artificially population controlled by the other grading companies. (Thinking early Brady, James, Trout, Jordan, Ovechkin cards) The more 10’s of these players that hit the market will cause a shift in the grading industry dynamic towards Tag and away from “subjective and inconsistent” graders
Thanks for sharing Joe. I like the POP report and the submission kit ideas. These grading companies have a Heathy Profit Margin that they can use to implement some of these ideas but I feel that they won’t. They are stuck in their ways like Blockbuster when Netflix put them out of business. Let’s see if TAG is the Netflix of the grading world.
The thing here is, there are & have been countless "new grading companies who are taking on PSA, Beckett, etc." yet literally none of them have managed to gain any serious traction throughout every/any subset of the hobby. Grant Dawson btw
Good point although TAG seems a bit more serious than a lot of the other companies that have come around. They have put a ton of money into all the tack and slabs. And it seems like they are starting to market to get the word out about their product. We will see what happens. Thanks for commenting. I’ll pick a winner for the giveaway later this week. Love the in depth review. I can definitely see myself using TAG in their next drop, especially for my PC cards. Being able to see that much detail of your own card and the reason for the grades is so dope. I’d love that Grant Dawson if I get chosen! (Both are beautiful cards) Thanks for the UFC content, keep it coming!
Great video dude. But just want to say, it's not just the ink printing issue, you could easily get a 9 with that. It's the fact that there multiple scratches on the card that clearly both PSA and TAG have seen. Just look at your card from different angles directly under a light and you will see it.
PSA charges you later on in case they have to upcharge you for anything. You know what's crazy? A Green /5 Gilbert Burns RC sold for $35 after he lost graded a PSA 10. Doubt the sale was completed though lol.
I dont own a single slab until now. I pulled a great khabib auto card and was about to send it to psa but then i thought that spending 99 $ for the auto+card grade is a bit much. I would rather just get it into a nice slab to showcase.
Awesome video as usual. PSA will be #1 as long as they can process efficiently and stay cheap. TAG should be #2 if they can scale up volume. I think the grade out of 1000 is awesome and provides distinction. A 975 should be worth more than a 974 if they're graded around the same time. It's better than subgrades. I think getting an early TAG grade could add value to the slab as pop reports get bigger. Keep up the sick videos. Constructive feedback: TAG turnaround is 20 business days @ $14 per card. That's basically a month.
Thanks for the comment Nate! Glad you liked the vide. I agree with everything you said. And thanks for the heads up about the turn around time. I should have done my research before the video. Haha.

thanks for the vid, i hit a 1/1 sean brady in a break recently and some other big anderson silva cards so i have been seriously thinking about getting them graded when they finally arrive. i have never submitted anything for grading so i need to do me some research. there is a company here in Australia called TCG grading. i know its not a popular grading company but they have black labels in the slab that would look sick with the black 1/1. would be keen to win the grant dawson but appreciate postage to Australia might exclude me from the giveaway.. Thanks for the comment Billy. Sorry. I should’ve said it in the video but I’m gonna have to keep the giveaway just for U.S. only because of shipping costs. Congrats on the Brady though! That’s massive!
Serious question... did TAG pay you, give you a free grading submission, or both? Lol just playin the slabs do look nice & I wish at least 1 more company could actually take a substantial market share so we have more competition in the grading industry, I just feel like people are so stuck in their ways that countless collectors will never even consider anything besides PSA when buying graded singles or submitting their own cards or grading which makes legit market competition for grading real tough to bring to fruition
I agree but it’s crazy how much money they make. They are grading more than 1 million cards a month. Can you imagine how many graders that takes. They are just laughing at us while they take our money to the bank. Haha
Very easy to do when you're getting a much lower volume then PSA. These kits and wrapping the card in a pack all costs money, they will not be able to keep doing this. That was a marketing strategy to bring people in. And from what I've read, they aren't grading vintage (pre-1980), without being able to grade vintage, they'll never compete with PSA or SGC.
I think that with time TAG will start to be recognized as a reputable company, as long as they keep doing good work of course. The population reports and defect charts are things that will be key to their success i believe, personally i hate not being able to see what is wrong with non gem cards. The Grant Dawson Teal is absolutely fire! Thanks for the awesome video joe!!
Most grading services are better than PSA. PSA is widely used because of their simple grading scale, 60/40 centering on a 10 and for a decade handing out gems like candy. Because of this investors and collectors accumulated a large collection of PSA garbage and will defend that garbage to protect that garbage. Now PSA is bipolar and seem to grade by throwing darts at a board. Think that’s a 10, well it’s a 4 Please Submit Again. Oh it was a 9 this time? Weird.
Thanks for the comment Jason. I completely agree that PSA grading is all over the place. The main reason I presently grade with them is because I like the look of the slabs and they sell well. If TAG can start getting some good resale value, I will totally switch over to them.
here is the problem with TAG, it seems like it costs them a lot of money to grade and attract customers......the level of detail for each individual card from your own shipping kit, to online image detail, to individually wrapped cards upon return cannot possibly be efficient for their bottom line and this will result in the company not being able to produce in scale. Another thing is, yes, the technology is great and digital grading is certainly the future, but once the bigger companies adapt to it this company is going to get lost in the market shuffle........great looking slabs, cool video breakdown but i just dont see them as a mainstay in the hobby that already has 3 big companies that the market has highly adopted, and that really goes for any of the non big 3 grading companies.
Thanks for watching and the comment Slugger. I definitely see your point but I have to imagine they must have a plan to scale up when the time comes. I’m sure they saw what happened to HGA and don’t want that to happen to them. We will see what the future holds. I do think that if PSA, BGS, and SGC don’t innovate with some of this stuff then people will move on to someone new.

Hey brotha ! Does TAG charge you up front when submitting the online order or do they charge once the cards are slabbed you and sent back like PSA ?
Hey man. I believe they charge you when you submit. I think PSA is the only grading company that doesn’t charge right away.
@@JoesCardStache appreciate the info !!
Haha. TAG definitely did not pay me. I’ve never been paid by any company for anything I do on channel.
PSA 8 to a TAG 8.5. Lost half its value😢
Haha. Sadly, I think a raw version is worth more than both of those. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Aside from the reputation aspect, the service TAG provides far exceeds PSA. It destroys PSA in terms of quality. PSA is overall garbage.
Thanks Ethan! I’ll pick a winner this week and let you know if you win the Dawson.
