I was 8 [almost 9] years old at the time, and had, by coincidence just learned about the land at school in religious [Christian] context, we were taught about Jesus as being from the land of Judaea [as it was called in New Testament times] and also that Judaea was the same area as that known as Israel and Palestine. I was also into stamp collecting at the time, so knew where the [modern] countries were from maps.
