  • Hello, and welcome to the Model A Mabel neighborhood.
On December 3rd of 2023, I and my older brother went to San Juan Capistrano to look at a 1930 Model A Ford Tudor. On December 4th the deal was made and 23 hours later she was delivered to my driveway here in Tucson Arizona.
I want to briefly explain the Model A Mabel channel. First, I don’t know a darn thing about Model A Fords. So… Why did I get one? Well… My step-up son, Josh acquired a 1931 Model A Ford. It triggered a memory of mine back when I was 10 years old. When visiting my Aunt, her neighbor had this old rusty Model A Ford I use to drool over. I always wanted one. So… with this triggered memory, and after careful watch, I went to see, and purchased, this 1930 Model A Ford. It only took 60 years for me to start my dream.
Now, the motivation for this channel is to document and show my family, friends, and anyone else that wishes to watch my progress, or de-progress, with Model A Mabel. Maybe I can show some folks that it is OK to step into uncharted territory, and that the angst or anxiety that one may get; well, you can challenge oneself to overcome.
Now, there are quite a few channels on the Model A and T Fords. Finding information about them is in many ways abundant. But… You see… Since I don’t know a darn thing about Model A Fords, how do I know if the information I am seeing is correct? In fact, I have seen and heard contradictory statements on many things, except for maybe on how to start a Model A Ford.
As an old dog, I also know that there is more than one way to cook up beans, so maybe different ways work differently at different places. Hum… If you understood that, you’re doing better than me. All I can do is show you what Mabel does, what worked or not worked with her, and slowly build up my confidence not only in Mabel, but in myself as well while learning this new venture.
I don’t want to turn into an old fart, I want to challenge myself in trying to learn and to overcome life obstacles. That’s is where I get my enjoyment. At least I can become a smarter old fart. Hey, and that’s better than sending one’s odor to the couch.
So, I am not here to tell you how to do this or do that on a Model A Ford, but rather show how I, as a newbie, approach learning and problem solving; and that it is OK to make mistakes or goof up. I don’t need to present myself as the smartest human on earth. Besides, the smartest guy I ever knew jumped out of a perfectly good airplane after grabbing my hiking backpack.
I welcome your comments; as well as, suggestions for future videos you think I should do.
So, welcome to the Model A Mabel neighborhood. Thank you for watching and hope to see you again soon. Oh yes! Did you spot the two coyotes in the film footage? If so, good eye! If not, go back and see if you can spot them in the background.
Hit that “Like” button, subscribe, and help remind folks that ingenuity and independence is just plain cool.

Good for you! You must have a good skill level. My skills lie elsewhere, so I have to try to reason things out on this adventure.

Thank you for your kind comments. I agree with you, as I am 71, and wish I had been doing this my whole life. I built my house in 2017, and now wish I had created a garage that I can only dream of now. There are certainly a lot of videos out there on how to work on them. And that is good. I actually started this channel just to show my family and friends around the country and a few other countries what I am doing to satisfy their curiosity. I have a tiny background on making music videos, so I had the equipment and software to make them. And to throw in some entertainment, be it good or, well, some groans of bad comedy.
      Thank you for watching.

Totally agree! I bought my 1930 todor coupe when I turned 60. Had it for right a year now and love it. I to knew nothing about this great piece of American history!

Sounds like yours is running well. Yes, on the history. Mine runs fine went it runs. And it now seems to have become more reliable. But... there are more problems to come for me.

A's are fun and easy to work on. You'll have a good time. I like your altenator remark at the beginning.

Thank you for the kind words. Nice and easy to work on sounds good to me. I had one fella say working on a Model A engine is like working on a lawnmower. He made his living fixing school busses.
I like poking fun, so I am happy to hear your remark concerning the alternator/generator fight.

You started with a really nice example of an “A” That was a better way to begin than with a basket case.!

Thank you. Everyone is different in what they want. I was looking for something that would be a driver with minimal upkeep work. I like tinkering, but to old for big jobs. Still, it looks like now I may have to do a head gasket replacement. Oh boy! Lucky me! But... it's Ok, in due time. Mabel also has to work around my other life demands as well.
Do you have an A? T? something else?

Thank you! With my speech issues and, let's say, easy Mr. Rogers and Bod Ross attitude, I thought it may lighten up folks in the hobby.

Thank you! She's nice to me. Not show quality, as she has lots of little issues, but more than good on the eye. Definitely a good stepping into the hobby car. Hey I just realized it Doppelganger3D. So hello again!

Nice Tudor. I did the same thing in 2018. My '28 Phaeton is Mabeline, mostly because my wife and daughter said it must have a name. Have unfamiliar car - will learn. Thanks for the videos and good luck. Have fun.

Thank you. Congratulations on your 1928 Phaeton Mabeline. Meet a fella yesterday who named his 1930 Model A Tudor Mabel as well. And for the same reasons, after our grandmothers. Share a photo of your Phaeton if you wish.

Yes, agreed! I was watching the boys the other day and when I went to take them home the younger one asked if they could go back in the "Model A."

Ha!!!!! I love it. Those two ladies just randomly walked up, turned and started pointing to the mountain. They were oblivious. So when I come up from behind, I gave them an ahooga. Their reaction is genuine.
I like your sense of humor. Feel free to give me any ideas, funny or serious, if you are so inclined. And thank you for your wonderful response.

You asked for suggestions right? Make a fully comprehensive list of reasons wives should encourage their husbands to go ahead and buy themselves the model A Ford they have dreamed of owning since their youth .😎

I like it! I will start collecting ideas from folks. Feel free to offer yours. May be months out. In meantime I will think of a "persuasive" way. Perhaps the narration will be talking straight to the ladies, for example. The ladies issue to Model A Fords.
My poor brother lost his garage and shop to move by his wife's sister. He's been lost. My getting Mabel made his isolation a bit harder I think. So I suggested that she approach their two girls about getting ol' pop a Model A or something.
