    I have a 2023 Gmc 3500 dually
    Lifted 3.5” in the front, 2.5” in the back on 36’s, 45’ toy hauler triple axle, 20k loaded, no air bags needed, truck sits level, tows like a dream.
    Sweet looking set up you have.

  • @blank0fff

    Couple things, if you get a 5th wheel toy hauler, most have flipped axles and if/when they make different ring and pinions, don’t waste your money on 4.10…. With those 37’s, I recommend 4.56 if you tow a lot. I’ve had my 2024 high country for 10 days, I had a 2012 F450 with 4.30’s on 37’s, “tuned”…… and had to lock out 6th gear towing our 5th wheel toy hauler, about 15k lbs.

    Thanks for the dually video drop JB! Love the information you’re putting out on it. I got a 24 gmc and plan on leveling with kryptonite and 35s. But maybe if you continue success with 37s, I’ll get gutsy enough to do it too. 🤣

    Yeah….. BUDDY! That is a nice truck and trailer setup!
    Thanks Justin for addressing my issue.
    I used to have a 3500 Denali SRW, and now I’m rolling with a F-450. I added some 35” tires and I am nose high. I have the MOYRIDE independent suspension and I learned there is two bolt holes I can switch to which will raise the back of the trailer higher, which should level it out more.
    I have a Lippert Trail Air hitch and I think I am able to bring it up two bolt holes which I’m going to try. This hitch is so long that it tends to hit my tonneau cover if I don’t have the hitch airbag filled up. So I’m going to try a few different modifications to try and get the trailer leveled out.
    That new house location is a perfect free video set for you with those beautiful views. Can’t wait to visit out there.

    JB, doesn't look too bad, I would say you are at least 2" high in the front of your 5er, not really a deal breaker. With big 5th wheels you have to be mindful of overall height of the trailer. My Solitude is listed as being 13'5" to the highest point, this is approaching the maximum legal height for trailers. Most larger 5th wheels already have the springs on top of the axles. I have installed lift blocks before to get the trailer up higher, as well as taller tires on the trailer. Jayco uses a 255/85R16 tire on their big 5th wheels and they are listed as being 33 inches tall. My Solitude sat a little nose high with my 2017 3500 with 34.5 inch tires and air bags, wasn't a big deal, but I also had a 2001 Holiday Rambler Alumascape 5er and I had added lift blocks under the springs to give it an additional 2 inches of height because it was my hunting trailer and I took it off road. The last trip I took that trailer on I kissed the top of the bed on my truck with the overhang of the trailer and crinkled both sides of the bed!!!!!! I also had 5 inches of clearance and I can tell you, it is marginal at best. Last month when I pulled into my daughters yard to park my Solitude with my 23 stock height GMC dually, I kissed the top of the bed rails. Also, when you run a little nose high, it makes it much easier to drag the tail of the trailer. Overall I would tow with a trailer that looked like that, but keep in mind that when you run a trailer high in the front you will transfer more weight to the rear trailer axle and vice versa if you run the trailer low in the front. Only way to know for sure is weigh each axle separately on the trailer FULLY LOADED.

    Great video. One thing I learned from towing a big fifth wheel with my old truck before I got airbags was the damage (or premature failure) it would do to the front end since it's up in the air a bit. I went through ball joints until I installed the air bags. And of course you get flashed at night by everyone. LOL...I now prefer my new truck to sit level or a little front down for those reasons. My toy hauler came with factory flipped axles so it rides level with 8-10" of bedrail clearance with 35s. I may be jumping up to 37s again but we'll see.

    Good for towing but most definitely not better, it does nothing positive for the towing capability of the truck. Its just that the dually is so capable that even with a lift and bigger tires it is still very useful.

    I'd suggest looking up the load inflation tables for your Toyo tires on the dually. Just looking at the video, it appears you are over inflated for the loads you have (the dust/dirt pattern on the tires...looks to be mostly riding on the center portion of the tread, not the entire tread width).

    You will definitely hit the bed rails with that little of clearance if you go on uneven terrain. Of course it will matter how uneven. I have a stock 2024 3500HD GMC dually with a 2009 Weekend Warrior with a goose neck setup with over 7" of bed rail clearance and the trailer touched the bed will going down into a driveway. It was a fairly steep driveway but still something you want to be watching out for! If you are a freeway flier only then you should be ok.

      I remember the first time I saw a mega cab. It was just after the came out and I had heard of them but not seen one in real life. It looks like the trailer, might be slightly higher in the front, but to Me it looks like it is fine for towing the way it is. I watched a different Vlogger, that did have an issue in that he made the point that trucks are getting higher, but 5th wheel trailers are not, and He had an issue backing up an incline to where he parked the trailer. For some reason, I had it in My head, that with bigger tires, You might lose clearance. Doesn’t look any different to Me, than any other modern truck doing the same thing. At the end of the day, it is Your truck, and You get to do what You like! That truck is a bonafide tractor! Thanks for the videos!

    The only thing affected in this is the gearing now because of the oversize tires. Now you have higher gear ratio so you wont have the same as factory BUT, With the power of these engines it probably isn't noticed. The rest of it doesn't matter and looks so good!! Love it.

    I am assuming that you lost a little payload with the bigger tires, negligable maybe 100 lbs but still a bit right? I would think it is even more stable towing that a normal dually due to the wider rear track. Looks level to me too!

    My only complaint is that Goosebox. I had one when they first came out and had it set in the pin box to the maximum height, I had like 9-10 inches but those gooseballs allow for so much side to side travel that I crushed the corners of my front cap on BOTH sides, while making sharp tuns and hitting holes or just uneven ground. Now I know they have since come out with the Gen 2 and recently the Gen 3 but I will never go back. I switch to the Trail aire with dual air bags and a 25K Companion 5th wheel hitch. But I don't haul that much with mine so not really worried about it staying in there.

    My take. Put that dually with 37's against a stock dually the stock one is going have better towing performance every time in both performance and fuel economy. Add weight to the trailer the difference will be even bigger. You may be just fine with 13k but step it up to 20k plus you may not like the added height and weight of those 37's. Let be real here from a 5th wheel standpoint you are towing a flyweight. a 20k toyhauler with a 4k pin is going to be a different animal entirely.
    Thats not to say the one with 37's wont pull, it just will not have the same performance as stock.

    You should have measured from the ground to the bottom of the trailer on the front and back with both set ups that would have gave you a true measurement of what difference you where trying to show. Ideally you want that trailer as leave as possible while still maintaining the gap between the bedside and bottom of the trailer. The measurement you took between the bed would be about the same since you used the same ball and set up and didn’t change anything and they are similar trucks. The biggest change the 37s make is in your overall gear ratio, and having that 10 speed you can probably make up for that by just running a gear lower. They also will affect braking alittle because of the leverage from the bigger tires.

    I have, what can probably be classified as, an unhealthy obsession with Ford Super Duties, but that is a beautiful truck. The Chevy half tons have a little too much going on for me. There’s too many twists and turns and cuts. The HD’s are cool and yours looks great.

      I have been looking at the 5th wheel, too. So, the price increases come from the new solar/battery systems. You can run almost everything in them, plus larger appliances without a power hookup. Making them perfect for off grid camping without a generator.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why wouldn't the 37s void the warranty? It will throw the gearing all out of spec. Which will throw the trans all out of spec. Which will probably not make the engine happy. Way to big of a tire to tow with.

  • @JasonS_IN317
    @JasonS_IN317 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Oh the drama. Leveled and lifted are two different things. Leveling a truck can cause it to tow nose-high with your headlights pointing up. I said CAN, not WILL. Lifting (depending on the lift hardware and wheel/tire combo) can add additional weight that can reduce capacity. On a dually, that capacity reduction is likely not an issue. But lifts are rarely built to OEM standards and eventually wear out leaving the truck sagging and nose high after years of heavy towing. We have a lifted & leveled GMC dually with that problem at my work right now. More of an issue for the 2nd or 3rd owner than the person that put it on.
    The level and 37's work fine for THIS application. Would I do it? Nope.

    People misunderstand what they mean when they say lift. They're thinking about those trucks that look like a french bulldog that got hit by a car trying to walk around. 12" lift on 30" rims with a 1" sidewall stretched tire... Those don't tow. Leveled trucks tow better.
