    I am a 13-year owner of a 1996 black/black NSX and to confirm that the EPS does shut off at a certain mph; I thought it was ~ 15mph, but I see someone else commented about 35mph and I couldn't find a confirmation the NSX Prime site. Either way, this explains why the NA1 black and NA2 yellow NSX's in the video handled similarly above a certain mph. This was my dream car and now a proud owner.

    Great video. I own an NA2. I was a dream to own this car since high school. Every drive is special. This year I took it to the Tail of the Dragon and it was the best automotive experience in my life.

    There are very few differences between 97-01 NA2 and 02+ NA2 apart from the loss of pop-up headlights and a much better ABS (and a few cosmetic details). The EPS, chassis, engine and suspension are exactly the same. Driving feel differences could be attributed to tires, shocks (the red car maybe needed new ones) and bushings (older car = worn bushings).
    Also 5 speeds are absolutely reliable. There was a small range of early models that suffered from a snap ring issue (that could be fixed by Honda/Acura as a recall) but outside that range, zero issue really. They can hold over 500whp without any problem, and 5 speed models did have a dual plate clutch. Of course these are all manual synchro gearboxes that means the synchros wear out over time (especially the 2nd gear one) but that's common for all manual cars.
    I got a '98 NA2 Coupe (yes, these do exist too.. much lighter than the targa version !) and it's fantastic to drive. Upgrading to the 02+ ABS is kind of a must of course. Also newer shocks (of good quality, like KW V3 or JRZ etc.) make everything better ;)

      You learn something new every day. Thanks for the comment and thank you for watching!
      Would you say that a 5-speed NA1 is worth going out of our way to find to film a review?

    • @LegendaryGauntlet
      @LegendaryGauntlet ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ExhibitionofSpeed Unless it's modified with a JDM gear set (with shorter gears) I'd say the 6-speed are globally superior in all aspects. The USDM 5 speed NA1 will feel a bit lazy in comparison due to overly long 1st and 2nd gears. If you want to go out of your way to review a good NSX, that would be a Type S, NSX-R or a Zanardi edition (which is similar to mine, 6-speed pop-up headlights NA2 coupe). All 1997+ are NA2 apart from the automatic ones (which you should avoid) - and of course more recent cars will be generally in better shape. 1997+ coupes are extremely rare though and apart from the afore mentioned Zanardi edtion (51 of them) there's just a handful of them around. Again going JDM you'll find the Type S (all of which are NA2 coupe) and 2002+ NSX-R (NA2 coupe again, fixed headlights). These are fantastic cars, but age is not doing any good to rubber, suspension components, brakes.. Well maintained cars are rare and you'll find that most of us enthusiasts have changed the OEM shocks to more recent technology. for the better, usually.

    What a great love letter to this platform. Glad you discovered this experience and got to have this time with the older school feel of a 90s-era halo-level Japanese sportscar. I couldn't afford an NSX and my first love was the Toyota Celica so I got the GT-Four, but much of what you say here applies. Japanese engineers when let loose to really pursue excellence achieved amazing results.

      @@ExhibitionofSpeed If you ever get a hankering to try out the Celica AllTrac/GT-Four I have a 1992 in Colorado, and I know that there are some in Utah. It's obviously a lesser tier of car, but they feel great, inspire ridiculous loyalty and efforts to keep them roadworthy.

    Great stuff. Seriously getting emotional in that yellow NA2! Great content. It must've been so tough to assemble the cars for this video. It's hard enough finding a NA2 but a type S too! Oh and my comment was deleted during re-upload but that EPS steering disables about 35MPH which explains your steering feel. Not sure what's up with the red one...

      We discussed the issue on our podcast today, but there was an issue with some unrendered footage on the yellow car review. Really sucked to have to re-upload a 90 minute video just because of 5 seconds of footage. But thanks for checking back in again!
      And yea with the yellow car, it really did things to me. I still think about that car.

    The 5 speed transmission is no way fragile. I have an NA1. If it is not in snap ring range which were a manufacturing error on some models for a short time. Also the coupe is much better than the targa top..

    • @ExhibitionofSpeed
      @ExhibitionofSpeed  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coupe is better how?

    • @blackbirdnsx2694
      @blackbirdnsx2694 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Targa top is heavier and if you take the t top off the chassis bends like hell. It was not designed as a targa but a coupe. The coupe is just soo soo much stiffer. If you want some tracktime with it the targa is nowhere to modern standards of rigidness. Na1 coupe with a typeR suspension, and a Jdm short gears and an OSGiken full lock differential and a 2002 ABS from NA2. That is the perfect receipt. That is what I have by the way after 20 years of longing and contemplation. :D Belive me I've tried all other combos. :D That is the best one! @@ExhibitionofSpeed

    They were doing fine until they decided to include the new one. They could have wrapped this up at 45 minutes tops. Also wish they gave the spec on the older cars such as tires,wheels and other mods. These cars are getting old it's hard to believe there all bone stock.

    • @ExhibitionofSpeed
      @ExhibitionofSpeed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well we wanted all of the generations because we hadn't seen it done yet. We've done long-form stuff before (Audi 4.2 V8 film).
      We discussed the trans swap in the black car and the sway bar in the yellow car.
      The issue is that we need to discuss enough to be informative, while also not going down such a rabbithole that we lose an audience. It's a tricky balance really.
      Thanks for watching though.

  • @d2ddad

    Good video except none of those cars are JDM. Also, the 5 speed is not fragile other than a known defect on some early models.
