- The Real JDM Supercar; Honda NSX NA1 Review from JDM Masters.
The original Honda NSX was Japan's answer to the European supercar establishment in the late '80s. Designed with a mid-engine configuration with Honda's new DOHC VTEC technology that gave it a high 100 horsepower per litre output and an industry first all aluminium body, the NA1 NSX was a true exotic that made the European manufacturers sit up and take notice.
Designed by a team led by Chief Designer Masahito Nakano and Executive Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara. It benefited from advanced aerodynamics and styling inspired by an F-16 fighter jet cockpit and input from the late Formula One World Champion, Ayrton Senna, during the final development stages.
It was presented at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and was built in a purpose-made factory in Tochigi Japan, going for sale from 1990. It was originally available as a coupé and, from 1995, a Targa top. It underwent a performance upgrade in 1997, equipped with a larger 3.2 L V6 engine, and a facelift in 2002 before being discontinued in 2005. North American models were sold as the Acura NSX. Cars with the 3.0 L C30A engine are referred to as NA1 models, while the 3.2 L C32B engine cars are known as NA2 models
A special performance-oriented model 'Type R', called NSX-R was made to make an even more focused track-oriented performance which harks on Honda's long involvement in F1.

Miatas are the proper value for the money you pay.
They are very good on what they've been designed to do, being a sports car.
On the other hand, paying a 50k for a Supra just because it appeared in Fast and Furious, when you could buy a 300ZX or a GTO instead for quarter of a price, it's just bonkers.
All these years later the radio aerial pops right up 13:15. Superb.

Big thank you to Capt Bradford, an NSX NA1 has always been the icon for folks who enjoy 90s JDMs. Not many people can find an NA2 RR, but this is definitely not a lesser car. I remember seeing the Acura (Honda) NSX here in the U.S. years ago at a Honda dealership. The dealership had a rope around it and I could not get a good look at it, but from what I saw the car was awesome looking. Very unique looking car for the times and I read that it drives really smooth. And of course a fast car compared to other sports cars from that time. Great review!!

It's mad to think that at one point, this was the most sought after car in the whole world. How times change.
A lot of various sports cars over the decades have ended up in the automotive graveyard and scrapped. Yet, all these NSX's from the early to mid 90's are not only still on the road, but are still in very good condition and still drive well. A lot of cars that were built to last are kind of boring and not performance orientated. With the NSX and S2000 you get both, performance AND built to last and be used everyday. It's a huge shame that Honda stopped doing RWD pure sports cars.
It is a shame but remember people weren’t buying the S2000 anymore and that’s why. People appreciate things when it’s gone.

Great review, love the nsx. Those seats and that steering wheel position will make the cabin feel more snug than it is, much prefer the OEM wheel position personally 👍

For me, the NSX is timeless and one of the most real driver oriented machines ever made. The Type R models are the pinnacle of all the NSX variants. And also, Very good video.
I love this NSX so much and the engine is so good and i know this nsx because the f1 champion legend Aytron senna who drive NSX R at suzuka circuit in 1990s and also senna who own the red nsx as his personal car.

I love the NSX, one of the best looking cars of all time. The Type-R were also very impressive when compared to other cars of the time.
EDIT: LOL at 280bhp agreement, more like 300+ for all late90/early 00's.

I would say that NSX was essentially Japan and Honda’s response to Europe especially Ferrari. And the NSX is also a classic example of late 80s and early 90s cars.
Now this early model of NSX is huge expensive

Thank you for doing such a detailed review on the Japanese car I respect and love the most.
I can say that the NC1 being so complicated and heavy and more of a USDM than a JDM doesn't really deserve the legendary NSX badge.
The NA1 is just too perfect, 30 years old, and still looks better than any production Ferraris or Lambos
