For me personally I think the intersection of my queerness and my neurodivergence is a big part of what makes her music, and pink pony club especially, resonate so strongly. She says it's ok to build your own family and community, and it's ok to ignore what's considered normal. I think it's very easy for neurodivergent folks to be labeled as "too much" and her joyful approach to camp is such a balm for the soul in that way
Yes! You put it into words that I couldn’t find. Thank you! I think that’s why the “camp” means so much to me. We are seeing someone play out taking up space in a big and “weird” way and it’s so inspiring to watch her do this with so much confidence. It makes me want to start to bring out my authentic self more than ever before. ❤️
@@PassionDumpofanAutist you just get me!!! I've been called a parasocial weirdo just for having a special interest in seeing people reacting to her music. 😭
@@ChappellsDaughter omg! I don’t think that’s weird at all. And if it is, f’ em! lol. There’s something so comforting to me in watching others experience and find joy in the things I find joy in. I think you're the first person Ive heard observe that in My Kink is Karma that the transformation is basically her (Kayleigh Rose) turning into Chappell Roan. I agree, and never thought of it that way before. With Casual I'd describe that juxtoposition (when the Siren and Chappell roll up to her home on the bicycle) as "Tim Burtonesque".
Yay! I’m glad I was able to bring a new perspective! Thanks for sharing that. 🤗 And YES! That is exactly right. I want to go back and watch Edward Scissor Hands now. It totally seems like a similar vibe.
@@PassionDumpofanAutist as a lesbian with autism i understand your connection (and other neurodivergent ppl's connection) to the song as well as the connection queer ppl have to it. and its great because you know a song is good when lots of different types of people can connect with it in different ways :)
@@LionGrl321I cannot agree any more! And thanks so much for this comment. It is so validating to me. It’s such a beautiful song of acceptance and joy. ❤
Love what you said about Pink Pony Club. One of the awesome things about art is how different people can feel connected to it for different reasons. Even if someone isn't part of the community a song is about, we can all find comfort in it in our own ways. I'm both queer and neurodivergent, and I feel that anyone who's "outside of the norm" in one way or another can relate to the feeling of wanting somewhere where they can find belonging and be true to themselves :) Pink Pony Club is not only one of my favorite Chappell Roan songs, but also one of my favorite songs of all time. It's full of so much joy, and every time I listen to it I feel torn between crying and dancing lol
Yes, you said it! “Torn between crying and dancing”, this is so relatable to me. It’s definitely up there with my fav songs of all time. And thanks so much for affirming that. It really is that feeling of belonging when being outside the “norm” for so long. You really put that into words. Thanks! ❤️🤗
Omg I just found you and I relate so much I cry over everything too 😭 i can’t control it I’m just so proud of the artists and stuff it’s so good I can’t help but cry 😂
I wish you'd watched the official video of her live performance of Kaleidoscope. She arguably sounds even better thsn the album version, and her raw emotion is the beautiful and heartbreaking.
Ooo! That’s a great idea. I should do a video just with that one or maybe some other live performances. Thanks for the suggestion. It sounds amazing and something I’d enjoy. 🤗
If you haven't seen her NPR Tiny Desk Concert, it's sublime. See her embrace her drag persona! Fun Fact: She always planned on being an actress and saw music as a springboard into movies. Obviously didn't happen, but it makes her video's SO good.
Yes, that’s been on my list for quite a while actually! That IS a fun fact, I didn’t know that. She’s such an amazing actress is her videos so I can totally see that. I always did think she had a bit of the “theatre kid” energy that I love! lol Thanks for sharing all that! I’m loving watching her journey so far. ❤️
The Tink Desk is a must. Her concert sets (especially at big Festivals) are great too (Lollapalooza especially) but Tiny Desk first. A medium sized set, but with perfect audio engineering and Chappell maxed out with being hilariously theatrical. Think performance art meets seriously amazing singing. You'll see what I mean by that when you watch it. Also: her Tonight Show performance of Good Luck Babe. Again with something that's basically a performance art project mixed with a singing performance.
@@Wiley_Coyote recorded tonight!! Don’t want to give too much away…but let’s just say I was completely blown away. Yes, now I want to move on to some of the bigger festivals she’s done lately. I think you would like the older video for Love Me Anyway. It features crafts she made and her guinea pigs. My favorites are My Kink is Karma , Pink Pony Club, Red Wine Supernova, and California. For live video, Lollapalozza has the best filmed video.
Yes, You had me at Guinea pigs…yep, I’ll definitely love that! lol My favs are definitely Pink Pony Club and My kink is Karma but not gonna lie, I don’t think there’s a bad song on the entire album. It’s such a well crafted piece of work. 🤗
