Passion Dump of an Autist
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 เม.ย. 2020
Hello! My name is Val. I'm an AuDHDer, 37 year old woman with quite a few passions and special interests I want to share. At the moment we are hyper fixating on music reactions. I'm going thorough Lana Del Rey's entire discography, checking out Maisie Peters, fan-girling over Chappell Roan and discovering new albums that I've never listened to before.
First time hearing ULTRAVIOLENCE by Lana Del Rey - I may or may not be okay...

Florida Kilos and Flipside are tracks that enhance this album as a whole and i'm already looking forward to your reaction to them.
Bro, the video came out 5 days ago and i ended up not receiving the notification. The reaction video to my favorite Lana album, amazing album 👍
Would love you to do Holly's album!! <3 She's amzzinggg
I want TH-cam Premium for you. It's definitely worth getting rid of the interruptions if you can at all afford it.

Sorry, the “I’ll get back to you in a few hours” turned into several days. I’ve just responded in Patreon. Such an interesting film that just baffles me. Such a raw depiction of humanity. 🐠🐟
I just saw your comment on Patreon ! Don't apologize ! I was hoping to hear that you enjoyed it though !! 😊 now I'm back to being excited for the UV era lives !!! 😅😅😊
@ deluxe premiere on Saturday and I’m gonna do the live research on Sunday! ❤️
You will have Charli’s older projects as breaks when you need it. They are all very fun to listen to.
The intro song, The Good Witch will always give me chills! I honestly don’t know how Maisie will top an opening song when she releases MP Album 3
i loved this reaction so much your insights are so interesting!!
Lana said Ultraviolence was not about DV
@@grllikesboy5118 awesome! I’m going through the Lana interviews this Sunday in my live. This was a first reaction where I get to interpret the art and how it resonates with me. 🖤
I hope you decide to react to some of her live performances! I think you would absolutely love them. I reccomend "Lucky" and "Through The Eyes Of A Child" Live at Nidarosdomen (Nidarosdomen is a Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway) and "Murder Song" live at The Nobel Peace Price Concert 2015❤
i love how you picture an image for every track, this is exactly how i listen to this album too
i love ur hair btw
My interpretation of Starvation is people are too dependent on machines, artists works being ripped and canibalised by cold corporations. Progress don’t care about humans. It’s like dying artists in agony tries to keep the last parts of their humanity until we completely break and die, people trying to keep up with progress that everyday speeds up to impossible miles. People heart and soul will die before we die physically. Corporations works for money, machines takes everything even the simplest tasks like art, they take away our souls. Out of touch with what we are, heartless soulless humanless
Totally. This was what I was trying to get across and the brain wasn’t processing quick enough to get out my words at the moment. Agree with everything here. 💙
I think Ultraviolence is my faourite album of Lana ❤🔥 I get emotional, because it's been around 10 years since it was released and I still remember my first listen in my living room and how it seald my love for her ❤About the "Jim", I feel like listeners too often think of "man" while listening to Lana's songs, while she frequently writes about her RELATIONSHIP with addiction or fame or city, at least in her earlier yers (or it can be both, having a double meaning). So Jim is probably the alcohol and her addiction (Jim Beam) I heard some interpretations that also points to cult leader Jim Jones who lived around 50s - 60s, since it suits the period Ultraviolence sound seems inspired by and since Lana said this in an interview➡ :"“Ultraviolence” looks back on my time in New York. I was, for a while, part of a sloping underground scene, which was dominated by a guru. He believed in the concept of destroying his followers first and then rebuilding them. I fell for him because at that time, I longed for security". Also, this album is JUST NOW getting it's deserved reviews and it makes me want to cry because FINALLYYY - like, for me it was a love from the first listen, but also FINALLY because it means our society is changing, it is ok to depict the point o view of a victim, to BE a victim and talk about it, it's the abuser who should be ashamed. I remember at the time it was released the songs that were called feminist had to be empowering, but it almost screams toxic positivity to me and it narrows down the feminism, it excludes those who are still struggling, it erases the trauma and the process of healing. ALSO! I haven't seen anyone saying this in the comments yet, but during the time of releasing this album there was a drama with label: "Auerbach openly criticized her label's role on the creative output of the record. He stated the label threatened with not extending the recording session for Ultraviolence any longer unless they heard something from the record.[7] After they sent them [the label] the rough mix of what they had at the moment they were unhappy about the results. They even threatened Lana the record wasn't going to be out unless she worked with "the Adele producer", who most fans speculate to be Paul Epworth, long time producer on Adele records, who also reworked previously leaked demo of "Black Beauty" to fit in more with the sound of the record. According to Auerbach, after Epworth listened to the same rough mix he loved it and stated the album was amazing and that he wouldn't do anything to change it. His words may have influenced the label's own opinions as they changed their mind suddenly and let Lana release the record" Plus in Rolling Stone interview Auerbach emphasized that "she sang live with a seven-piece band. That's the whole record - a seven-piece band with her singing live. It was crazy"
almost 2 hours of reaction??? this is heaven on earth! as a huge lana fan, I'm loving your journey and how you go deep in her work. sending love from brazil 🇧🇷💗
I love how she uses sad as both emotionally down but also pathetic. Sad Girl is not just a pity track
7:10 I guess nobody mentioned she covered Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box a couple times during her Ultraviolence tour.
i really enjoy your insights of the songs and the feelings you have while listening to it. this is also why i love Lana’s music, because people can feel it in all kinds of ways, make it something your own.. the way her lyricism is so beautiful and unique, the power of it to bring you into her world-so stunning. i can’t wait for you to listen to honeymoon and also i would love and can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Blue Banisters (my fav album these last couple of months), i understand why people don’t “like” it - it’s hard for me to say ‘like it’ but it’s not really what people tend to listen from her (she also made it that way-it’s there if you want to know what’s going on with her in that particular part of her life) but it’s so relaxing and lyrics are stunning too big fan of your interpretation, keep going please ❤️❤️🫂
nice reaction ! it's funny that you talk about Lana's music giving you 'dance in slow motion' vibes as Lana herself addresses it in her follow up album to ultraviolence 😂
Invisible wounds. Aurora usually does not explain her lyrics, she prefers the listener to do that but she has said that this one is about her and a sister ( I suspect she may be talking about her bi-polar sister?). It is very very personal to her. Of the songs that brought tears to me during her recent concert in Manchester (UK), this was the climax.
omg so readyyy!!! lana got crucified by the media for ultraviolence , they said she "glamorized" abuse, when in my opinion, an abuse victim can tell their story however they may need to, its her experience and it does a good job at emphasizing how an victim feels in the cycle of abuse. i know im glad she made this song and album bc i can relate personally and it makes me feel less alone in this experience, which is what art and music should do. candy in most of her songs is referencing drugs lol. When lana uses the name Jim, it usually refers to one of these things: a general name used for her exes, Jim beam (alcohol), and ppl like Jim Morrison and Jim Jones occasionally. Ultraviolence means so much to me, and it INFURIATES me when ppl say she glamorized abuse, bc no, ultraviolence shows how I felt in abusive relationships, shows the victims perspective in an accurate manner, how it becomes soo so difficult to leave somebody who has manipulated u into thinking they love you, even while hurting you, so thank u so much for ur appreciation of the song and its meaning. i think "i couldve died right there cuz jim was right beside me" is such a sad line and a double entendre, bc in a physically abusive relationship u feel as though u could lose ur life at any moment due to how close u are with an abuser, its scary. Shades of cool is my #1 offf this album. the meaning, the vocals, and the guitar bridge is PERFECTION. u hit the nail on the head, lana is saying she can't help or fix her man who is dealing w mental health struggles and drug issues, etc. in shades of c Lou reed was actually supposed to do the vocals in the back of Brooklyn baby but he actually died shortly before they were supposed to record. pretty when you cry was freestyled and done in one take!!! amazing song, i love the guitar bridge in this one as well. i think it's interesting, a lot of abusers tell u ur "pretty when u cry" after they r the ones that made u cry, another display of the cycle of abuse and how it continues. ur correct; money power glory is supposed to be satire, the media came after lana saying she was a bit of a gold digger so in this song she kinda just leans into that portrayal. fucked my way up to the top is also satire yes, she was criticized by ppl saying she slept w ppl to get famous, which didn't happen. and also she makes a dig at Lorde after Lorde came for her, "mimicking me is a fuckin bore, to me" was meant for Lorde. cant wait for more lana!!!!
My favorite Lana's Album and your reaction is so concerning i love it ❤
This Album is Masterpiece ❤
fun fact: almost all of the album was done in one take! They had all the lyrics and instrumental finished up (except pretty when you cry which was free styled) and did all the vocals in one night, the producer said that 90% of the vocals were done in one take and only a few lines from the whole album were redone also some of my favourite songs from lana are about her Scottish ex boyfriend barrie-james, its rumoured that brooklyn baby, shades of cool, california and west coast are about him (also the songs in uv deluxe and more in the albums coming up). He's also a singer/songwriter and is credited in a lot of her songs even in her later albums even though they split up a decade ago. He was also the inspiration behind the line 'my p*ssy tastes like pepsi-cola' lol. It's known that they split due to Barrie's mental health, Lana said in an interview that they split ways because he had deal with 'some stuff' and referred to him as unwell on a few occasions 😕 you'll notice most of the songs about him refer to his mental health (especially shades of cool and black beauty). it seems like theyre both still friends even to this day though, he often sings her songs when he goes live on Instagram and it breaks my heart everytime 😅, after finding out california was about him i never listened to it again without crying Edit: this is so long sorry lmao but i also wanted to add that another music reactor i watch was actually contacted by Barrie who said he wanted to thank him for supporting Lana 😭 so cute he was watching reaction videos 🥺
I would guess that your first feeling when you got the diagnosis was relief? Most think that they are "Normal", that's meaningless, we are all wired in different ways. Me, I have aphantasia, I can not think in pictures, no "mind's eye". Aurora is different, she sees the world in a refreshingly different way. All her songs, different and every time a different interpretation. Her live performances are best as she sings in the moment, with a deep emotional commitment. Highly intelligent with a broad general knowledge. Having met her, briefly, two things. First she really sees, she is an observer, more like a small child. she noticed things I had walked past literally hundreds of times. Second, she listens, a rare gift. Most are only half listening, just thinking about what they will say or some other thing. Wonderful Woman.
OMG Val , I don't know I commented the Live performances of each album , It took me over an hour to search watch and rewatch. I just came to see to comentarys and it's no longer here gonna do that again
Shades of Cool is my favorite song ever I was waiting for you to hear it 🥹♥️ sooo excited 🎉
Shades of cool I think I expressed in this video that I liked it…but man! After hearing it multiple times now….im absolutely obsessed with it now! It’s so angelic! 🖤🖤🖤
Amazing reaction, keep going on the Lana content ❤
back from my parents house and i'm making my evening with watching the video. got tissues in case, hah. cruel world is such a good opening to the album. people can describe their relationships with abuse and addictions however they want. unless people write only about great sides of drugs for example, then i could maybe understand that. but artrist like lana, they may write about longing with subjects like that in beautiful and kind of romantic manner, it's still clearly something she herself is against and wishes it was different. i can't speak of abuse in romantic relationships or addictions, but i do have very complicated relationship with my parents and all people romanticize their past. remember the good parts and hope to hold on to that. it's very human. loved the reaction as always. haven't listenend to that album in a while, ultraviolence, west coast and brooklyn baby are probably my favorites. though the albums as a whole is really good, so the favorites always can change within every new listen, hah. always love how ulfiltred your thoughts are. your authenticity is very clear and very inspiring :)
You would so love blue banisters
i genuinely appreciate all the pauses you take during the song to speak your mind on it, its so refreshing to hear other peoples thoughts and interpretations of her lyrics as they can really be taken in many different ways from people
That is so validating to hear! I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea but I do it for the people like yourself who appreciate the thoughts during!! 🖤🖤🖤
lana has a bachelors degree in philosophy so makes sense why theres so many religious themes
@@darrj I actually mentioned this in my essay about Born to die and I have a section about religious themes! 🖤
"will you still love me when I shine from words but not from beauty" is her asking if they'll still love her when she is old and no longer has her beauty but has her intelligence and words (older and wiser). She has an entire song on this concept called "young and beautiful" "will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful. will you still love me when I've got nothing but my aching soul" It was featured on the great Gatsby movie.
@@ninjaturtles12121 yeah, that’s kinda what I was getting at. Just said it in different words. Her mind and talent, not her physical beauty. Many women experience this question.
fked my way up to the top is her being ironicl. Her peers like Lorde were criticizing her HEAVILY for her so called "anti girl power anti feminist" approach. (at this time "girl power" the term was it, with Beyonce's who run the world and Lorde's debut, and Katy Perry's kissed a girl n liked it etc era, it was the whole girl bossing era. This feminism era failed to include women like LDR who don't fit the "strong" women box. LDR has said true feminism is inclusive and should make room for women like her too and not just the strong female empowerment types) And here comes LDR not fitting that mold. Her peers and critics (Lorde etc) were like "she must have just fked her way up" dismissing her art n success whilst also copying her new non mainstream alt style so this was an ironic "so what if I slept my way to the top who cares and what are you going to do abt it other than mimicking my style- psst fk off whilst I go lay down in my diamonds n pearls" kinda vibes.
Yeah, tbh I can’t remember what I even said in this first reaction but I’ve listened to it about 10 more times since and I think after the 3rd or so time I could really feel the anger and rage that is subtle in this song from a first listen. I certainly understood from the beginning it was satirical. That makes total sense to be in response to critique of not fitting the boss girl narrative. She threatens some of that narrative by being her authentic self and it seems that some (not all) feminists forget why the movement was started by our ancestors. And it certainly wasn’t to force every woman to fit in a specific box. That’s what they were fighting to get away from (in amongst many other things obviously). Not to move from one box to another. Because for most of the recent history women have been put into boxes (men as well tbh), and anyone that doesn’t fit their narrative feels like a threat to that. Myself as a neurodivergent woman has personally always been on the fringe of society’s expectations and I’ve never fit any box that’s been put in front of me. These people have lost the plot imo. Lana has done more for my sense of womanhood and empowerment than many of these “boss girl” types tbh. And I’m a proud feminist in the true sense of the term. But I’m not above critiquing where the movement has gone off the rails imo. Anyways, that’s my rant on that. Lol
Lou Reed was supposed to feature on Brooklyn baby but he tragically passed away right before so she had her bf at that time sing the last few lines with her
'blue' is featured on every single album on multiple songs heavily throughout the years n takes on any and all the meanings of blue that we know!! like 'feeling blue' i.e. sad/depressed, blue flame being the hottest flame, 'talk till you're blue in the face' (blue=lack of oxygen/out of breath) all the phrases and meanings associated with blue you best believe Lana has incorporated them into her work! like she says '"it's my fav color and my fav tone of song"' i.e. she likes sad songs. she says "'singing blues" referring to the genre of music. she sees herself as a student and fan of jazz and blues music. so yeah blue is a heavily used concept throughout the years
No matter how many times I have listened to the song ultraviolence it ALWAYS hits me really hard. I cry every single time. The play on "I can hear (police) sirens sirens violins violins" instead of 'violence' n how her mind changes the police sirens sound to violins to protect herself, and the "we can go back to the start when I don't know who you are" - wish I had never even known you to begin with and the "I could have died right there in his arms b/ he was right beside me"- he could have literally killed me right there; "Jim taught me that loving him was never enough"- learning that no matter how much I loved it was never enough for you. ahhh I can go on n on, it always gets to me. I bawl. This entire record is incredibly magical in the hardest way I cry a lot and I have listened to it hundreds of time!!! Highly recommend sitting with a lot of lyrics in this album. The things she isn't saying and reading between the lines brings a new experience every fking time!! No one was doing this at that time she was soo ahead. I am so glad finally now several decades later she is finally getting the recognition!
Your house looks so cozy ☺️
I just know ocean blvd is gonna hurt 😢
F my way is about singer Lorde
Please react to flipside. It’s one of the bonus tracks of ultra violence
Regarding artists that really use the instrumentals to tell a story: Joanna Newsom. Her music is as intricate and intentional as her lyrics and singing. A reaction to her album Ys would be incredible
You should consider filmmaking :) !
