OH, that EVERYONE who contemplates parrot ownership could see this video! I moved into a new home, and had a bird room put in, just for their night cages, and when we are not home...otherwise they are out and with us, on stands. My life revolves around their care and their companionship. It is a joy and it is a heavy load to bear all at the same time. I wish people would have to have a license to own parrots....because nobody knows how much work it is til the bird comes home! Bless you!!

You are SOOOO right, Miss Pickeltoes! People don't have a clue of what parrot ownership is like/or will be like until the bird is home.
I, like you, aggree that it is indeed a heavy load, very heavy, to care for our parrots, however, there's NO WAY I'll ever part with ANY of mine....or any of the other species of animals we have for that matter. I just wish that others would do the same type of research I did BEFORE taking on the YEARS of responsibilities

Mira is a very good friend of ours but we had not seen this video, so thanks for the share.

This is an excellent video! There needs to be so many more reports like these. Thanks for posting this report because this kind of education is so desperately needed.

Indeed. I will never rehome my gang(currently 1 U2, 1 Molly, 1 African grey,a green cheeked conure, an Indian Ringneck, and a Cockatiel) but I have turned down at least 3 offers of free birds in the past yr. One was a U2 female. I know my limits! LOLOL....As it is, I have not had a proper vacation in 12 yrs! I have made provisions for them in my will, as they will probably out live me.

Yup, knowing the limits is crucial. I too, cannot take on anymore birds. Another reptile or dog would be possible but definitely not another parrot of any size.
I schedule my WHOLE life, including my work schedule and weekend outings/activities around our birds so I can relate to what you mean about not having a 'proper' vacation....LOL!
And don't get me started as to how much time I spend in the kitchen cooking all the various foods I make for these li'l monsters each and every day ;-)

The shitty thing is that here in Arkansas becoz we have no parrot organizations whatsoever- unless you count Jimmy Buffet Parrothead fan clubs- is that owners have paid $1200 for a bird and so they would rather let their bird suffer than take a monetary loss and do the right thing. I have even thought about leaving Arkansas becoz the parrot scene here is nil. :-)

And then there is the problem that they could outlive you...I worry about that every day...the big parrots just weren't meant to be pets...sigh...
