  • Green Energy Hypocrisy: "California's wind farms kill more than 80 Eagles per year and thousands of other birds daily, prompting calls by environmental groups for better wind power management......." (Fox News Video Description)
    AS REPORTED by William La Jeunesse of FOX NEWS from Tehachapi, California, on August 16, 2011:
    video.foxnews.c...
    Also refer to WALL STREET JOURNAL ARTICLE of 9/7/2009:
    "WINDMILLS ARE KILLING OUR BIRDS"
    (One standard for oil companies, another for green energy sources)
    online.wsj.com/...
    This is infuriating! We can close a river to protect one fish and rope off a forest to protect one owl, but when it comes to BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, we have no problem sacrificing THOUSANDS of birds including protected ones without any consequences. What total and disgusting hypocrisy by the promoters of 'clean green' energy! :(

    Out Law Cats First: Wind turbines kill between 214,000 and 368,000 birds annually - a small fraction compared with the estimated 6.8 million fatalities from collisions with cell and radio towers and the 1.4 billion to 3.7 billion deaths from cats

    • @vincentrobinette1507
      @vincentrobinette1507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree 100%!! Turbines are such a small percentage of the total losses compared to other causes, it barely shows up on the radar. They don't disrupt the wind currents any more than a tree their size. They negate more carbon dioxide with the power they produce, than a tree their size could ever absorb. Granted, turbines may not be a 'perfect' solution, but they are by far and away, the lesser of evils. I like them as well as solar power.

    I live in California City CA. My grandparents live in Mojave, close to the windmills. like 600 feet from them. WE CAN HEAR THEM!!!!! They are running animals out of there homes. Where do those animals go? In our backyard, looking for somewhere to live and feel safe. There are old windmills farther back and those are leaking oil. when these newer ones start leaking, and they use more oil, its going to be a diaster!!! What do all those windmill loving people say to that? I dought they even know!!!

      The noise generated by a wind farm us far less than the noise created by the traffic on the roads going past your house. It is physically impossible for you to be telling the truth.

    • @vincentrobinette1507
      @vincentrobinette1507 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only way I've been able to hear a turbine, was to hop a fence, cross a equestrian path, and trespass onto the property, to get close enough to hear it over traffic noise, and the wind noise through trees and bushes. I could hear the "whirr" of the gears in the transmission, by putting my ear right against the tower. I've visited several sites, and could not hear them. they're not anywhere near as loud as road traffic.
      I've heard the same sound dubbed onto videos of different turbines. That sound is a byte from a turbine that caught fire. Why? because a normally functioning turbine is so quiet, that it's hard to record over the sound of the wind blowing on the microphone of the camera!
      I will admit, that the old ones had articulated blade tips, which could be pitched off plane, to moderate the speed of the rotor when the wind was too fast. Those DO make some sound once in a while, but the newer machines no longer employ that method. The newer ones pitch the entire blade, so there isn't the whipping noise caused by offset angles of attack. Until I actually hear a turbine for myself, that's what I have to say about that!
      I'm a "big fan of the big fans", so I go looking for them, I've seen hundreds, and have heard none. I want to go to Altamont, or Tehachapi, and see the big farms there. I'm going to bring a video camera, and track all the birds going through there, and see if there's any possibility I can film one of the "fabled" bird strikes I hear so much about. There's only one bird strike I've seen, that looks authentic, the other, is clearly "photoshopped". Very rare. It would probably take me weeks of following birds with a camera, to actually capture a strike.

      Have no fear. It only happens a fraction of the number of times that it's reported. The number of bird strikes per year are but a few dozen. Not hundred, certainly not thousands. Birds are quite alert to movement, especially, when the movement is blades the size of commercial aircraft wings! I can't imagine a bird not seeing something like that. Just try to catch any bird. you'll know what I mean. With their eyes on the sides of their heads, they can see nearly 360 degrees. It's easier for them to see movement like that, than for us. I'm sure you would see a moving turbine rotor.

You MIGHT get luck and actually see one. It's just too rare. All the videos you see on TH-cam are re-posts of the same incident, or faked, or "photoshopped". Get some REAL footage. If it happens as often as claimed, it should be easy. you'll find, it's nearly impossible. It happens about 1% of the number of times it's reported. Prove me wrong! Post your own video, and don't go by "hear-say". I've never seen it happen.

    • @vincentrobinette1507
      @vincentrobinette1507 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not the only solution, but rather part of the "trifecta" that would include solar, and electrical energy storage. Without energy storage, turbines can't amount to any more than about 20% of generating capacity without causing instability in the grid. That's because the wind is intermittent. Turbines aren't even considered co-operative, but rather, "negative load". Solar is slightly better, just because you can more easily predict its output. Both in combination is even better yet, but ultimately, without energy storage, there's no hope of renewable energy becoming the major player in generating capacity.

      Birds can sense movement nearly 360 degrees around, because their eyes are on the sides of their heads. Their peripheral vision is much better than ours. Just try to catch a bird, even when it's paying attention to something else. You won't succeed. I don't know what you mean by "sheer" image, but it seems pretty hard not to see something flailing through the air, that's the size of the wings on a commercial aircraft. Birds are VERY alert to any kind of movement.

    Wind turbine pushers are full of lame rationalizations citing existing causes of bird deaths, as if the word CUMULATIVE has no meaning. They also don't like to talk about the unique way wind turbines kill bats, which are adept at avoiding most other structures via sonar. Wind turbines ruin bats' lungs with pressure differentials as they pass by the blades. I don't know if anything else man-made has that affect, so it's a serious concern.

    I have a solutions to avoid deaths to birds on wind turbine, why not put wire mesh around the wind blades to protect the birds, take the electric fan as an example, electric fan is shrouded by wire mesh to protect us against its blades, the same with wind turbine, shroud the turbine with wire mesh to protect the birds, the holes on the wire mesh must not be very small but just enough size so that birds will not be able to enter, yes it will reduce the efficiency of the turbine but it will be a very small reduction, another solution is to install electronic device that will emmit sounds or electronic signals that will drive them away from the turbine, about bats, I have post a comments on Grady's Video. I would like to see more of the bird strikes recorded on video. If it really happens all that much, you think there would be footage of it. The fact is, that it's so rare, there only a few incidences ever recorded, and they just get re-posted time and time again. the others are often "photoshopped". The numbers of bird strikes are but a dozen per year, not hundreds, definitely not thousands. It probably happens about 1~2% of the times per year claimed by extremists. Way over exaggerated.
      Go to a notorious wind farm, like Alamont, or Tehachapi, and track every bird that flies through there with a camera. You'll probably need a couple of weeks of doing that, and if you're lucky, you MIGHT see a bird strike. It's that rare. you won't get one if you just sit there for an hour, or even a full day. That's why there aren't any real number of videos. Trust me, if it happened that much, every "environmentalist" would be very quick to post videos of actual bird strikes. It's less frequent than bird strikes at airports, because the turbines are stationary. they don't fly into the birds. Bird strikes do happen, but it's rare. There is even an incident where Randy Johnson, of the Arizona Diamondbacks, hit a dove with a fast ball pitch. That proves that anything can happen, but not often.

      Go to a notorious wind farm. Follow every bird that flies through there with a camera, and see if you can actually capture a bird strike as it happens. If you're there for 2 weeks, you might be lucky enough to see it happen. the problem is, you hear about it 100 times, for each time it happens. There aren't a lot of videos of it, because it's such a rare event. Sure, you've seen the eagle that was hit, and got it's wing broken, but that, and a couple of hawks are just re-posts of the same few documented cases. There is one, where an eagle circles around a turbine, then the camera edits over to the dead bird, but that strike was probably "photoshopped". You will be happy to know, that the numbers reported are greatly exaggerated.

The Chinese are going for them now, by the time we have run out of money to subsidise these flailing things that produce insufficient and expensive electricity, perhaps we will borrow more money from the Chinese to buy their reactors from them.

    Hello the WHOLE reasons nothing is done about the bird kills is Democrats want to keep it hidden. Dems political agendas to get elected are all about wind farms and renewable clean energy. If the wind farms go away then what do Dems have left. Dems HATE oil companies and that's why they are fined but Dems LOVE wind farms, cant fine their agendas

    We have turbines not far from our house and Birds are the least of the problems. Bat's are also being killed at a large rate, not by the blades but by the atmospheric pressure changes that cause their lungs to explode. You also have to look at the people that are physically ill because, of the turbine's.

    Is there anything that doesnt kill birds??
    Killed by traffic, they fly into closed windows, cats, oil spills, solar arrays, other birds, disease, harsh winters, hot summers, bread, wind turbines, chimneys, drones.......etc
    Conclusion: we need better birds!
