He mentions that he doesn't like being controlled but likes that military style of hard training. There is a difference between instilling discipline, and values vs straight telling how a grown man should act. Love me some Jimmy Buckets
He enjoys working hard and discipline. People wrongly believe that military style is about someone shouting and controlling, when it's about preparing people and making sure they're at their best to perform when time comes.

I come here every now and then, even 3 years later and have come to the same realization every time that Jimmy is as real at it gets. Everything he has said in this video holds true today: i.e: his relationship with Bam, coach Spo, Herro, telling Duncan to shoot his shots, even cultural stuff.
Here we are 3 years later at another Jimmy Butler playoff special, about to make the 2nd finals appearance in 4 years, can't say anything except that no one embodies the underdog better than Jimmy Butler and no one shows greatness like he does.

I never saw Jimmy Butler as a villain, he brought a feeling of edge, grit, and competition back to the NBA in an era where that attitude was dying out. He’s a hero of the league.

Derrick Rose in his book "I'll show you" agreed with everything Jimmy Butler said about Towns and Wiggins in Minnesota. It also puts rumors to rest that he and Jimmy had beef because they never did. Jimmy and Noah got into one major argument but Noah spent his entire career yelling and snapping at his teammates and staff. JJ Reddick before the season started said Jimmy was one of the best teammates her ever had. That I know of, Pau Gasol, D. Wade, Taj Gibson, Joel Embid, Jeff Teague, TJ McConnell, JJ Reddick, D. Rose, and more have all publicly testified to how great a guy Butler is as a teammate. At some point you have to wonder if the media makes up lies about him just to paint him a certain way. The entire Bulls behind scenes crew was taken care of by Butler. Millions on them.

@Bill Blass not "they" but D Rose and Butler. D Rose said in his book that Wiggins and Towns shouldn't have gotten so much money when they hadn't accomplished anything yet. Said that KAT was gifted and a generational talent but that he almost never saw him in the gym and felt the same as Butler that he didn't really care about winning as much as others did. He kind of criticized himself too because he said that KAT is too quiet just like himself but also said that is why the T Wolves have no leader on the team . He said back in Chicago Noah assumed the role of leadership because of his quietness but there was no leader on the T Wolves and so no one to hold them accountable as a teammate. He didn't really mention Wiggins as much other than to say he and Kat shouldn't have gotten such big contracts. He did also criticize Butler on the whole practice scandal when he beat the starting 5 using 3rd stringers. He said he was right but wrong to do it the way he did.

Jimmy Butler is smarter and cares more than his GMs, coaches, and teammates at his previous teams. They cared more about their ego, being comfortable, and being in control than capitalising on and matching Jimmy’s qualities.
The teams he’s left are mediocre because they’ve got mediocre cultures and attitudes, and he was pushed out because they couldn’t handle him demanding more from them. 76s are no exception. For the talent they have, and have had, their team performance is mediocre.
He’s finally in a group of GM, coaches, and players who are as smart as him and care as much as he does. The standings prove all this. Ball don’t lie.

Jimmy Butler is one of those guys that you can be confident in having as a friend, he’s into eccentric shit, open-minded, and is so 100% forward to the point in which you’d never worry about him bullshitting you or being passive aggressive - he’d just say what he has to say. I can appreciate that.

This aged very well. I’m all on board with Butler. I had no idea how thoughtful this guy was. It’s very easy to see a guy with all the physical gifts to buy into the negative stuff about his personality. It’s sometimes annoying to see people so well rounded but jimmy’s legit. So authentic. Great interview by JJ.
