Just for cuteness, a little pair of shortalls (but really short legs, so they just cover the diaper- with a bib and straps) would be such a cute thing to knit for a summer baby. You could even do that in wool, because there wouldn't be anything warm on the legs or arms. That's what I would knit as my one summer baby knit! 🥰
@@lore_0412I am looking at all their designs and agh I love them soooo much!😭🥹 Doing you have more designer recommendations that are similar in children or adult designs?
This might not quite be a knitting recommendation, but with my second child I used the baby pack/ pouch so much. So practical, even around the house while doing daily tasks. Outside I used lightweight shawls or silk scarves as sun shields over the baby pack and as a nursing cover. We focused a lot more on walks, parks and indoor playgrounds for our oldest and independent activities to get the wiggles out.
I had my 2nd baby in July. Her brother ran really hot so i got lots of summer newborn clothes thinking she'd be in shorts and Ts a lot. Turns out we had a real cold spell and she ran cold so I ended up buying tights for under her shorts and borrowing some hand knitted cardigans. They were brilliant because they could be put on or taken off with ease. And with an older sibling about, we spend a lot of time outside ❤
I have a 17 month old and Balaclavas are the only “hat” I can keep on her this winter. I’m also expecting baby number two now and bonnets and balaclavas are one of the few things I’m planning on knitting for this one. 🥰 I totally feel you on the second baby “syndrome”. The pregnancy just flys and I’m soaking up the time with my first.
Katia Concept is a sub section of the brand that has the more 'luxury' fibres (so alpaca, silk etc) as opposed to the rest of the brand which is more workhorse. On the other end of the scale, they have their lanas stop which is their more affordable line. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about knitting for the new baby, just because we can knit, doesn't mean we have to knit... If you prefer woolly things, maybe just get started on his winter wardrobe, he'll probably get more use out of it!
I am expecting my 6th baby beginning of April (also Belgium) and I have really enjoyed knitting pants for her. I feel like we will get to use them a lot because my past babies were usually a lot in coton rompers and pants over it. That is their main outfit for the first few months, especially my summer and spring babies. Knitting a dress right now but in 6month size, because I feel like we won't use too much knits in summer. I am hoping to maybe finish a sleeping bag for her as well. Maybe in a wool-cotton blend
The best thing I’ve knit for my babies was a fingering weight 100% non superwash wool blanket. It keeps them nice and warm but is still light and breathable. I think a summer baby could use it a lot since they still do need warmth even in the summer when they’re so tiny. And they don’t grow out of them for years :)
Each of my boys have big boy bed comforters that were made and gifted by their MomMom. These are still precious keepsakes 20ish years later. You have time to finish the quilt and have him use it longer than he might with a lovey blanket. Just an idea.
Congrats on baby no 2! Quilt suggestion: quilt it with straight lines on your machine. You can probably get it done in an hour or two and after a wash it will be super cozy (bonus if you can put it in the dryer to get the crinkle). You just need a quilting needle and just chalk out some straight lines! If you have a pair of gardening gloves, that can help grip the quilt while you put it through the machine.
Hello, Bethany! I'm here on your channel since my knitting began, and I probably write my first comment, but I just love your energy and personality! Your videos are a pure relaxation:)
I made the "Look Out! Winter Hat" for my 6 month old and it's the perfect hat for keeping his ears warm because of the shape. I also added some i-cord ties to the bottom of the ear flaps to tie under his chin but that's really only necessary because I couldn't resist adding a massive pompom to the top of the hat. I think I'm just going to keep making that hat in increasingly bigger sizes for him even though I'm not usually a pattern repeater because it's just way too practical to resist.
I just gave birth to my second daughter a week ago, also 2 year age gap. I can totally relate to the second pregnancy syndrome... I felt like I just don't have the time and energy to think about it as much as the first. It sucks to think about it, but at the same time second kids get more experienced and relaxed parents 😅
Ahhhhh!!! I saw in your most recent video you were pregnant and had to jump back to watch these videos. We were pregnant at the same time with our firsts and now Im pregnant again! Lol. I feel EXACTLY the same about the second and I can’t believe how fast this pregnancy has flown by. I hope you have a beautiful and healthy birth 🩷
Congratulations Bethany! Wonderful news for you and your family!! My boys are 17 months apart and similar to you, one a summer baby and the other a winter baby. For the summer baby i knitted or crocheted a lot of toys, cotton blankets and hats until winter came and then knitted jumpers, jackets and beanies for him. Once my youngest hit around 2 years old he definitely expressed more of a preference for patterns and colours (he is a VERY knit worthy boy!) than his older brother. It worked out well for me because I struggled with 2 under 2 so really didnt have much time for knitting/crocheting anyway - but the older they get the more time you get back!
Congratulations! ❤🎉. My babies were only 18 months apart. It was very busy the first year, but the pluses were that they were playmates and that all the milestones came one right after the other and before I knew it they were both potty trained. The only thing I made for them were baby blankets 😁.
From my experience Cardigans were great as you never know when they need an extra layer!! Also, Laura is in the process of making a blanket that u mention but im not sure when the pattern will be out xx
Highly recommend knitting some dishcloths/washcloths for a summer baby. You can use it in the bath but also cleaning later. Congrats on baby #2! I have two boys that are 22 months apart and a baby girl. We have them close together and it’s a lot but fun to see how well they get along and love each other! I can’t wait to see how you recreate the Laura Penrose cushion cover.
I think everything you said is so true as a mom. Practicality and comfort comes into play so much more when baby is finally using everything! All the best~ Kimberly
Oh! Congratulations! I am so happy for you. Having two little’s is hard, but it is also the best. They grow up so close and it is so special to see that. ❤️❤️❤️
I made the sweet shop blanket. It was a really fun knit. My two now teenagers were born 23 months apart. It was really busy but I did have time to craft occasional but only on things that were too complicated. Mine were southern hemisphere winter babies so lots of new born to 6 month knits. Actually even in summer you need a few warm layers as it can be cooler.
My sister is getting a summer baby and I'm all over the cotton yarn knits. But I don't really mind knitting with summer yarns. I still want to knit with wool so I also have plans for when the baby is a little bit older. I think that's probably a lot more practical because it could last them longer than in the beginning.
I've just receved my yarn for the seaside sweater. I did one last summer for my nephew but he grow up so fast and my cousin had a baby too. So next week during the spring break, I'm going to knit two seaside sweater, one gray and blue and the other pink and beige.
I can relate so much to the overwhelming feeling of wanting to make all the things, currently working my second sock of the berry special socks from stone knits! I do think working with two colors is easier than 3 colors at the same time. But the end result is so worth it. Even though my tension is not very steady with all the threads everywhere hahaha. I want to make all the socks from stone knits!!
Well I really think you ought to knit another toy. An elephant maybe 🙂. My second baby turns 50 next month and I’m crochet a C2C Union Jack blanket. He lives in USA so a little UK reminder is important. I’m thrilled he will be having his party back here in the UK with family and friends. ❤❤❤
Congratulations to Baby Boy Nr 2 🩵 I really like the Idea of a quilted Baby Blanket. Just saw some patterns on ravelry. I have a summer baby too. I really like the merino cotton wool from drops. Nevertheless, my little Berry was always cold, so she needed some warm Jackets in summer time especially in thw mornings and evenings.
Congratulations Bethany! I’ve knitted baby rompers in cotton. They are really cute and don’t take much time, pair with a tee shirt or not. There’s a cute free pattern one, Pickles Romper. I’ve knitted several a few years ago. Don’t know if it is still free. Enjoy your knitting and Arthur! Wishing you all the best! ❤
We loved using the ankers dragt during summer, because of the small gauge. We do live in northern norway, so we have cold summers, but it was really great for the windy days! Also a suggestion for hats, both smaller babies and toddlers, "høstlua" by jord clothing. The fit is just great!
Congrats on your new pregnancy! Just a suggestion about the Drops Baby Merino if you don't mind, do not hand wash it. It grows awfully. I would just put it directly in the washing machine. I knit a sweater with it and wet blocked it in a bucket like I do for any other sweater and it grew so much and lost all shape.
It makes me so happy to see that we're due about the same time for the second time in a row! However for my second I'm expecting a little girl this time. I'm currently knitting her a cotton romper and might do a cotton cardigan. I live in the south of the US, so she'll be 6 months as well before sweater season. After I finish these I'll probably just plan on fall/winter knits.
A family member is expecting in may and I was brainstorming ideas of what to knit. It came down to a crocheted cotton bucket hat and a long sleeve cotton cardigan because babies in summer need to be covered away from sun. 😉 I totally understand about cotton though it is squicky in the needles. 😂
Yes what I was working on this is Mona 68 in clintonville Wisconsin I'm working on two extra big blankets I love working on big projects so I can take my time with it cuz I love knitting so much and it's not a it's not a race so that's mainly what I do isn't it so I like just taking my time😢 I haven't been knitting long even though I'm older I haven't needed I didn't learn how to knit until 2016 I knew how to crochet before that but it took it took me a while to be able to afford to be able to get stuff so I could try it and my kids were raised and so the Lord help me and here I am and yeah so is blankets and scars I've made several hats but I'm really not a hat person and even though I can do it and I've made hats for my grandsons and I've made a hat for myself and people seem to like and I just don't enjoy making it if that makes sense I just don't know why it's the crown I hate the crown part of the hat but and I don't enjoy wearing them so I said the c o w l and scarves and blankets I will use and I will wear so that's what I'm making I can't get the expensive yarn you get I can only use the cheaper yarn so I think why not just do that so that's what I do God bless you all song I said peace shalom 🌹🌹🌹✅✅
Congrats!! What amazing news. Hope you are having a happy, healthy pregnancy (and if not, that's ok!! hope you are staying strong). Love your videos, keeps up the amazing work!
Hi and thanks for yet another inspiring episode. Congrats with baby No. 2. Your choice of colors for the quilt blanket is fab. Would you mind sharing the color codes of your yarn the Baby Merino. Many thanks 🙋♀
Congratulations 🎉 I’m currently have one under 2 and second 5 months old and get someone extra to be at home for you to help. Knitting wise only time during breastfeeding as still my boy is little and car knitting. Unfortunately that’s all. I’m blessed with my mother in law who stays with us and cooks and wash dishes ❤❤❤ I have Swiss Dot Top on my knitting needles- check designers out lovely kids designs and adult socks
Congratulations on baby no. 2! 😍 I'm thinking that a baby born in summer isn't such a bad idea since it gives you time to settle for the new life with two children so all of a sudden fall is there and you can knit all things cute for both babies 😍 I really love the blanket idea! I might steal that one, even though I don't have kids and just make a cuddle blanket for myself 😂 beautiful yarn and project you are working on. I was knitting on my half + half triangle wrap which im using plenty of different fingering weigh yarns to create a really crazy blend of colors, super fun! I also have a podcast here on TH-cam so if you do get the time, I would be really happy if you would want to check it out 😍
Hi ! Laura Penrose is currently working on a Stella Quilt blanket, but the pattern may not be available in a few weeks, because the sample is still on the needles :)
Hi lovely, congratulations on your new little one! What was the app that you used to show the Stella Quilt cushion on your phone- looked like possibly a way of viewing ravelry? Thanks so much xx
Congratulations on your new baby! ❤ after mentioning your pins for blankets, I went over to Pinterest to follow you. I couldn't find any pins or boards there though except for some journal pins. is your account set to private? I think your knitted baby blanket will look great!
Oehh would you be able to share that pinterest board about the quilts? Love so many things you've pinned and would love to look at it for some inspiration for a future stella quilt blanket
Congratulations on the new baby God bless you just had a birthday february 23rd and when I think of New Life coming is always a blessing I love the Lord and I love your family through the Lord Jesus God bless you and I got too many whips on my needles if you know what I mean I get so inspired to start something and I on the type of person I have to finish what I start I have to so I've got about 12 to 14 website I'm saying whips and it's putting websites I'm I'm speaking into Mike on an Android phone and sometimes it likes to put its own words in there hopefully this makes sense but that's what I how I have to text but anyway God bless you and your family I'm so happy 😁 shalom❤❤❤

The baby bear balaclava from Knitting for Olive is so cute! And perfect for both baby and big brother. I believe the also have a bonnet version.
