- When I first learned “Father to Son” by Phil Collins a few weeks ago, I thought about the heartache our sons have gone through from time to time. If you get to be in your early 30s it’s going to happen. Your heart is broken for them. It happens to us all.
Lately, I think about our new grandson-Jack. When I look into his eyes I see such potential. For everything. Love, laughter, plenty of good times. And, yeah, heartache. This song reminds me to be there for him, just as I have been for our own sons. The last line gets to me, as I know I won’t always be around. “I’ll always be with you, don’t forget. Just look over your shoulder, I’ll be there.” Reminds me of my father-Jack.
Thanks for listening. Much appreciated.
Somewhere down the road, you’re gonna find a place
It seems so far, but it never is
You won’t need to stay, but you might lose your strength
On the way
Sometimes you may feel you’re the only one
Cos all the things you thought were safe, now they’re gone
But you won’t be alone, I’ll be here to carry you along
Watching you till all your work is done
