Hey Joe!! - Man, this was a really superb vid! I really enjoyed the comparison between Topaz and NXT, and really enjoyed watching the results and listening to your commentary on the two! Thanks so much for putting this together dude :-)
I picked this up the day I saw the announcement over on CN. I love it. What I love the most is how little time it takes to run. With other tools (looking at you, EZ-Denoise, TGV, MMT) I can start them, go get a coffee, have a snack and come back. Same image data, NXT is done in seconds - and in my opinion, with far better results. Since I installed it, I have not even touched the typical PI tools I mentioned.
Thanks Jonny, I agree, it's an awesome tool. I love how it doesn't mess with the stars either like Topaz and that I can do it inside of PI without having to go out to another program and then back again.
Thanks Roy! It's pretty impressive so far. You have much more patience than I do, I'd have to go on location someplace before waiting till August to image lol...I may have a small astro addict problem
Wow, what a powerful tool! - Thanks for this great tutorial and review on the NoiseXTerminator..., also the comparison with Topaz and your final thoughts were really interesting! - Great job, Joe 👍🏼
Hey Joe I've recently tested this too, very cool new tool. I guess it's nice this can handle the stars too as you can only really use Topaz on Starless. Good video Joe.
Thanks so much Ollie, I really appreciate that! That's exactly how I was using Topaz, was starless then adding the stars back in later and with this tool you don't have to, so that is very nice.
@@JoesAstrophoto I have Topaz and now only use it carefully on starless images, before re-combining. This has come along at a perfect time for me. I’ve used it on a Lion Nebula image (Linear state) and managed to get much more ‘dusty data’ showing as a result… I like it a lot👍🏻
Thanks Glenn! Right now I’m leaning towards Topaz myself, but I’m hoping to see the AI get much better like StarXTerminator has. We’ll have to see how it goes.
Awesome review Joe! I like Russell Croman's stuff and use other software he produced. I already own Topaz and do like what Topaz does a bit better, except for the stars as you mentioned. I do a variety of different things to fix them from making a star mask of the original stars and combining those with the denoised version or in PS using Russell Croman's AstronomyTools Action set, there is a 'make stars fuzzy and less crunchy' function which gets rid of the Topaz Star effect. - Cheers Kurt
Great Video Joe. That's A Pretty Smart tool. I have a Lot of Gradients in my Astrophotos from My LP, I should Check This Out! Thanks For This Tutorial!!
Great review Joe, I've heard a few people talking about this and they seem to love it. I own Topaz and I've never been a fan of using it for my astro images, great for other photography but I'm not a fan of using it for astro. This looks like it could be a great tool. Thanks for the review.
Thanks Russell, this does much better on astro images for sure. I didn't like Topaz for astro until they added their low light and clear algorithms and it was much nicer, but still does weird stuff to the stars.
Great video Joe, I’ve heard about this! I already own Topaz Denoise, and wondered about getting Noise Exterminator, I think il get the trial version and test it out, you make a good point about the stars, but topaz is pretty good at the Denoise side of thinks! It’s a tough one, but great to have these choices now coming along ! Funny you mentioned the fossil footprint nebula, I’ve just been looking at this today for a future target 😀 Clear skies!
Thanks Simon! I really like Topaz as well, but will play around more with NoiseXTerminator and possibly get it just because of how well it does with the stars. It's a great time to be into astrophotography with all the great tools we have now.
I've tried it and I'm sure I'll buy it. I looked at my Elephant trunk nebula. It completely transformed it. All the dark areas were grainy and especially in SII the grain is gone so it makes the SHO look beautiful. I've already printed the old version but the printout came out ok. By the way there's a $20 discount if you already have another product from him.
Great video Joe. I’ve found Topaz denoise can only really be used on starless versions (before the stars get put back in) as it really mucks up the stars even on its lower settings. I’ve tried out NoiseXterminator and I really like it but I turn down the strength as I do like a hint of grain left but just a hint.
Thanks Logan! I agree, I usually use Topaz only on my starless images. I think a little grain is ok, gives the nostalgia feeling of film most of us are used to.
Thanks Mike, I've used it a long time ago, but my ISP actually blocks Denmark IP's and I'm unable to keep the repository updated. I know it's crazy, ISPs aren't supposed to block anything, but mine does and living where I do, it's the only one I have.
@@michaelasbury5473 Yeah, I've called and complained and given them the direct IP address for darkarchon, the developers of the plugin and they still won't open it. Sall good though, I just do it all the long way.
Any chance that i could see the finnished fossils fotprint somewhere? Its very fainth for me and i have put over 11h on each channel (SHO), still pretty boring result over here haha. Its not so often i see ppl image this target
Sure Luft, shoot me an email (in the "About" tab on the main page of the channel) and I'll reply with the image. I didn't really plan on showing it off on Insta or Facebook as the stars are really really egg shaped lol. To be honest, I'm a little embarrassed of it, but I thought it was a great image to show for cleaning up the noise in. I know I shouldn't be as the winds that night were around 22mph, but I didn't think anyone would want to see it as a finished image. Looking forward to capturing it again in the future though.
@@JoesAstrophoto Thank you very much! Hey, dont ever be embarrassed by images or misstakes in this hobby. Its always amazing to see. And again, to see a target not many people shoot is even more amazing :D
Great video Joe.. and thank you for the call out :)
Thanks James! Just giving credit to where I learned about it, love your channel man!
@@JoesAstrophoto 🙂
Used this a couple of times last week and very pleased with the result
Thanks Neil, it seems to work amazingly well so far.

Great review, Joe, and thanks for sharing. I will try the NoiseXTerminator when the deep sky season begins in late august here at 60°N.

Nice one Joe, Covered that really well mate. I have the beta ver but doubt I will buy it as I like Topaz Denoise personally

Thanks Kurt! I'm going to try that, "make stars fuzzy and less crunchy" out as I do that that action set. Great tip!

Thanks Michael! I saw that discount as well, it makes it very nice. I'm excited to see how this develops over time like the StarXTerminator has.

Hey Joe, have you ever used the EZ Processing Suite? It’s got an EZ Denoise that I use all the time, and it’s free.
