Nice pic of sleepy head Fina girl! lol . Think so far it's coming along ok, and when the two colors meet with contrast it will look sharp ! I think the door card looks good. I've been using these same chrome trim strips for a few years, and hvae found that they are great for interior applications, but they flake off if they are applied to the exterior of a car that is exposed to the elements for two or three years. Also, I would have used the same 3M spray contact cement on the brown semi circle on the front rather than the tape. It would hold much better without the lumps from the tape that are clearly visible. Keep up the great effort that you are exhibiting! Great show!!!

I like it . Once all panels are in there ,,, that will be what will set it off . The color scheme looks great with that Paint color IMO . Good going you guys !
The backing board is actually Hardboard Tempered Panel board. MDF isn't made that thin. You can get MDF2 in 1/4" but that isn't the thickness Chad is using. Its al abut the epoxy resin used. Masonite hardboad actually the best choice.
Beautiful job - what a team!! I was gonna say a door handle in the centre area would also pull that card in. Question - did you try a contact adhesive? Cobblers use some pretty potent stuff for shoes/boots and they get a beating. Key is to let it go off so it only slightly feels tacky to a knuckle - on both surfaces. Trick is laying that fabric as one slip and it is a bugger to separate!
The ideas and workmanship are fabulous BUT the colors SSSSUUUCCCKKK. Never seen a hod rod ever in that color combonation, sorry Miss Jolene you missed on your choices or the project to bad it had great potentional.

Hi Chad. Love your work. As soon as I saw you double folding that tape I thought it would be better with double sided carpet tape, it's very thin and I think it would stick well to that material.
Hey Chad ! I enjoy watching your creativity come to life - amazing talent! Watching the door card episode, I had an idea (I know you're the designer, I come in peace): Why not carry over your speedometer detail w/ the triple chrome onto your door card arch? Make for some good continuity? I made an illustration but can't figure out how to post it in the comments.
I keep hearing the (majority of the) door panel is green. What am I missing? VERY close to the yellow DeWALT drill you used. Yes, yellow and brown. No one else sees it like this? Very nice job on the construction of door panel Chad. 👍
Use Scotch 3M Heavy duty spray glue. The green spray bottle. It is expensive but works for door panels. I use it for years. The trick is that you must spray the card board and the vinyl from the backside. Wait 5 min. before you'll stick both materials together. It will bond very well together then.
Like I said, the other day.I used that spray adhesive at work all the time. And if you put too much on it will not allow air to get to it so it can drive properly. The stuff works great if you use it right. Peace
I Think That Door Skin Looks Great Considering It's The First You Have Done. Just A Few Suggestions: Put Stainless Steel Cup Washer Countersunk for Screws Between Screw Head & Vinyl....Coat The Both Sides Of The MDF With Clear Coat Sealer To Help Protect From Moisture Before Covering With Vinyl.
Mirror glaze distributors on Preston Highway in Louisville Kentucky had spray‘ glue that was a one time deal. It’s what they glue vinyl tops on with. And it had to be right the first time because you could get it back apart. I’ve used it many times and dad many vinyl tops that were looking like they needed to be ripped off and read on, but after you use the foam brush and this water base late text die , They would look absolutely flawless! But you wouldn’t think it in the middle of the process before it dried! The first one I did I thought was going to look like crap and it turned out great! Major ‘attaboys!’👍
And voilà. 😎👍 She looks great and those colors go well. Maybe I would have glued the second piece differently, perhaps with smaller pieces of adhesive tape, or with that spray glue...
Just as an FYI, you should seal that masonite with a good mold resistant paint. Have you ever thought about using aluminum and clear coating it after you polish it up? Can be a PITA but might hold up a bit better for you, just a thought. Keep up the GREAT work Chad!
I have been noticing the 1946 Ford coupe behind you. I think that would be really cool looking chopped. A friend of mine had one like that many years ago chopped, he named it the turtle, real cool looking car. Bill
Brilliant job, looks great! Double sided carpet tape would probably answer your sticking problem - don't sand the MDF! Most adhesives will stick better to a shiny surface. Mirror screws - they have a separate domed head that screws on - but you'd have to bond a small piece of plywood inside because they have wood threads.
I used a glue to fix my factory interior that was coming off. You must follow the instructions carefully. For me I sprayed both surfaces after Preparation and clean. And waited until both surfaces were tacky to touch. This is very important. Otherwise it will not work. Then I applied both surfaces together and braced them with a g/ clamp overnight and some. It worked really well for me. I should mention that a glue that is visible, not all are, adhered better than a glue that came out of the can transparent. Visible glue is much easier to apply and see where you have been. The visible glue was thick and tacky when it came out of the spray can. The clear glue was nowhere near as thick and tacky. And through trial and error, the visible glue won hands down. I don't believe the method your using will last. If not you should try my method. Love your show guys.....keep up the good work!
Chad I always used 3m 90 I always tested it just in case of bleed thru or I used 3 M head liner spray. Never had trouble. The key is you have to let it dry before you apply your material and if you let dry to much you use a steamer and it will reactivate the glue.
Panel looks really nice! Wondered why you aren't using staples? They are available in all lengths, short enough that you could staple on the back without punching thru the vinyl on the front. That would hold the edges on the back where they are folded over. You could also staple the edges of the brown piece, then put the Bad Chad Chrome over the staples. I've done exactly the same thing you are doing with staples, except I used PVC instead of wood, and put very thin padding on the panel before putting the vinyl on. Another thought might be to use two-sided tape to tape the brown piece on.
When using that spray glue spray two light coats to both pieces to be glued . Let them dry completely . Then spray one light coat of glue to the back of the fabric . Then apply the fabric to the door card . It will be locked down tight . Do the exact same process to the back side to hold down the fold over material . The secret to spray glue is letting it “ dry completely “ before attaching the two substrates. Otherwise you will have the problem you’re having .
Pea Green with Chocolate Brown. I’m not loving it. Would have looked so classy in white, or biscuit, or tan, or even a pale primrose yellow. But green? 😏
Unfortunately there are so many people in this world with no vision. Colors are perfect Jolene!! Chad... please buy a cordless impact drill. It will change your life! Cant wait to see it finished guys great work
As a builder myself for 55 years now I can safely say that color combo never did have any appeal. What they have chosen for an interior color is ugly, and NOT a period correct color for a build that he said he wanted to look like a 50' custom. Back then he would have been laughed off the street with this thing.
I would've used contact cement and short staples with that brown piece on its edges and on the corners then put your chrome on top. I Like the colors at first I wasn't sure but their actually growing on me, I know in the seventies this was a popular color in some cars. I think this car's interior is going to surprise a lot of folks once its all said and done. In a good way. Cheers ....
You have to use headliner adhesive. You spray it on your backing board and you spray it on your material. Let it sit for about five or 10 minutes and dry and then put your material on your backing board. You HAVE to spray both pieces you are gluing together. You couldn’t get that off if you tried, you’d rip the backing board in half before you could get that off.
Hi chad and Jolene to put the holes in your bored annual material you could have used a shoulder pain who would cauterize around and it would strengthen the material better than using the knife but a good job you 2 love your channel and the cars and fina to 👍👍💯💯💯💯🖐🐾
Cal Custom has been around since early early 1900,s and he built his business really for DIY people and it's really on you two what you want we all can go out and buy what we can afford or some can afford a 50k paint 25k insides and 20k on wheels and on and on but what makes you Bad Chad Sweet Jolene is your all about practically and hey you don.t have to break a bank account to have fun building a ol. car and yes have fun doing it we all would love to have a riddler winner but we also if you,ve been and built Hot Rods that can get really expensive it will break you real quick as usual Sweet Jolene BAD CHAD FINA great videos KEEP EM COMING😊
No comment, except the brown goes nicely with the exterior colour. Design looks nice as it is laid out. I have finished a couple door panels, & they can be a pain.
The foil tape is massively sticky. Good choice. How about Double Sided Fabric Tape for the radial cloth insert? Lucky guy have such a partner takes an interest.
Hey Chad ... Think there might be a quick easy solution for the cut ends of the chrome tape .. found in any hobby store or maybe craft stores ... Molitow chrome pens fairly cheap and come in different sizes .. it's a chrome paint used by model car builders to simulate chrome trim
I’m guessing that my wife and I sound like an episode of Jerry Springer when we work together, because we both think we know the best way to go about doing anything imaginable. That is the drawback to both of us being good at what we do and confident. But I love her to pieces and she would take a bullet for me and I would for her to so, it’s all good❤
I think it looks fantastic!!!. There's no better feeling than doing it yourself. And the money you saved is great. You show us that a person can build a cool ride without breaking the bank. Love it
Chad use small flathead screws from the back of the door card into the back of the bad Chad flexible chrome and you will never have to worry about it coming off plus it really helps if you make a curve with the chrome.
You have to treat the vinyl is as if it were metal, when you have to shrink metal you make a cut,tap it down and cut off the overlap, the same thing with the vinyl those wrinkles have to be shrunk, so you make a cut press it down and cut off the overlap with a razor blade .if you feel it needs more glue you can apply more by spraying it in the cans cap or something similar and brush it on.On the corners, make a cut at the beginning and end of the curve or depending on the material a little bit into the curve, set the curve then pull in the sides and "shrink " as necessary. .
Looking good but in the heat all that chrome and panel will come off and the green will bubble in the heat .I have done camper conversions in the UK and we use a heat resistant spray but you have to spray both the pannel and the vinal let it dry then apply it, you do the door card in two left to right, and you should have used thin ply we use 3mm to 5mm for the panels. Vood luck keep on trucking...
Good job
Some advice, I'm upholster.
You will need to address that piece of material on top,it won't stick,it will come off.
I think your chrome will fall off as well in the future, vinyl is very hard to stick to unless you prep the surface properly.
Chad & Jolene - you can get countersunk cup washers that would look pretty good for your screws and match up with your chrome.
in the old days we had stuff that was called Head liner Board that we used for stuff like this - It could be molded and shaped as needed by spraying it with ammonia - And then there was head liner glue that worked better to hold the covering on. - Like a Contact cement - It was stronger then the standard spray glue -

Cant wait to see it finished guys great work
It’s really ugly interior colour..wasting effort & time
I can't say what I really think about the choice of colours here - shame.....cos I really like to watch this show most days - - BUT not this ! 🤐
That color combination lost its flavor in 1970
Ya,But it will look better after he installs the same color,Shag Carpet.
Cheers ....
I like it thank you Chad and Jolene. Yes , I need to do my interior, in my custom 54 Buick roadmasters. . Awsome video
Hi chad and Jolene to put the holes in your bored annual material you could have used a shoulder pain who would cauterize around and it would strengthen the material better than using the knife but a good job you 2 love your channel and the cars and fina to 👍👍💯💯💯💯🖐🐾
I did my door skin
on my 63 and 1/2 Ford falcon sports Coupe I have all the respect ln the world that your doing it yourself ...drive on Brad drive on
Cal Custom has been around since early early 1900,s and he built his business really for DIY people and it's really on you two what you want we all can go out and buy what we can afford or some can afford a 50k paint 25k insides and 20k on wheels and on and on but what makes you Bad Chad Sweet Jolene is your all about practically and hey you don.t have to break a bank account to have fun building a ol. car and yes have fun doing it we all would love to have a riddler winner but we also if you,ve been and built Hot Rods that can get really expensive it will break you real quick as usual Sweet Jolene BAD CHAD FINA great videos KEEP EM COMING😊
Great job Jolene!!! Love the colors!!! Awesome 😎
The mdf will fall apart when it gets wet put plastic behind pannel to prevent water damage. Looks good
he's not using Mdf its Hdf high density board its used for door panels its called masonite.
No comment, except the brown goes nicely with the exterior colour. Design looks nice as it is laid out. I have finished a couple door panels, & they can be a pain.
Color is terrible with car green just don't get it .
I think they need a reveal around the edges to keep from scrubbing the opening ,I hope not because you got it looking real nice my friend
Love it
Beautiful fabric color combination.
Awesome transformation so far❤❤
Chad use small flathead screws from the back of the door card into the back of the bad Chad flexible chrome and you will never have to worry about it coming off plus it really helps if you make a curve with the chrome.
You have to treat the vinyl is as if it were metal, when you have to shrink metal you make a cut,tap it down and cut off the overlap, the same thing with the vinyl those wrinkles have to be shrunk, so you make a cut press it down and cut off the overlap with a razor blade .if you feel it needs more glue you can apply more by spraying it in the cans cap or something similar and brush it on.On the corners, make a cut at the beginning and end of the curve or depending on the material a little bit into the curve, set the curve then pull in the sides and "shrink " as necessary.
.
My friend it looks like your new warehouse is getting full. You’re gonna have to build another one for the other cars you’re gonna be creating.
stack em up
@@billscruggs5170 he's doing that too .did you see the cab over?? 😂😂
I sure wish Jolene would talk more on these videos
Looking good so far keep up the good work. You guys keep working and I will keep watching,,,
Interior is looking good I like the color and chrome set it off keep up the good work Chad and Jolene on camera
Well he can just redo it if that happens.
So grateful for these daily instructional videos
