I went to watch Dunkirk last week in the theatre here in the UK. It's one of my favourite films of all time as there was only two other people in the whole IMAX screen. I wouldn't go to a screening which is even slightly busy and my town touchwood has actually been COVID free for a few days. Still though I probably won't see Tenet on release because people will swarm the cinema's. I'll wait a while and then go to an early morning screening on a weekday.
Yea, I think if I was in an area with no cases I would go, but the US is a mess with COVID right now so I'll sadly have to pass if they do open
I don't blame you about not going into theaters when they re-open Marianna. It's not that I don't trust the owners to disinfect the place, it the people who decide to come into the theater and are not wearing a mask. #StaySafe

No, my love for reading comes from great books )) I used movies and English subtitles way more for learning English than books.

Isn’t it disappointing for Tenet to be released right now at all? they are rushing and rushing to release it when the conditions have not improved putting people at risk, we obviously all want to see it and would pay to see it if they released it later on. It’s truly all about the money all the time
Mind you, if Tenet doesn't become an instant big hit either due to people not wanting to go to the cinema or social distancing restrictions, it'll probably subjugate itself to a slow grind to make its money back like Onward's doing right now in whatever theatres are open.
I think a big part of it is that there are cinemas open in quite a few markets around the world where things are under control and those cinemas are suffering even though they're open because there are no big, new releases coming out. I don't think indoor cinemas should be open in the US at all but I think that if studios can release films in other big markets where things have improved significantly, they should - not just for the consumers but also to help those cinemas.
It's a tough one, I do understand cinemas are trying to survive at this point and "Tenet" is their golden ticket - it's pretty much THE film they KNOW people will go out of their way to see. But it sucks for us as fans because this is something that's meant to be experienced on a big screen with a packed theatre. I would prefer they postponed it until 2021 in the US. Or maybe released on VOD, and had a theatrical run later, when it's safe - I'm sure people would show up to see a Nolan film even if they've seen it before.
Hey, I asked the Neil Gaiman question and it reminded me: if you haven't read it already, you'd probably really like Signal to Noise, it's a short graphic novel written by him and illustrated by Dave McKean. I don't really want to give spoilers on what it's about, but I ended up reading the whole thing and crying in the middle of Powell's in Portland when I finished it.
Arrival is one of my favorite movies ever
I've watched it a lot of times and every time was better than the last but my last re-watch a months ago I found some plot holes (I think). It's still one of my favorites but it's just irritating because you want it to be perfect.

@@ImpressionBlend Yeah I get that but she didn't deserve that ending especially after her character started to be more lovable and they did a pretty good job developing her character after she went to the 50's. She's not my favorite character but she's definitely up there.

Great Q&A. Did you ever get around to watching all of Stanley Kubrick’s films? I’ve seen all of them and would love for you to do a Reviewing + Ranking video like you did for Fincher.
Man I had covid 19 and it sucked but it wasn't absolutely terrible. I think movie theaters should reopen. The only people that shouldn't go are older folks or people that live with older folks or folks with respiratory issues. That's the way I see it. I don't to this day understand why everyone has to be quarantined, especially when most people probably already have had covid and haven't even realized it.
Edit: But I respect your opinion! Definitely had to add that haha
I clicked because I just recently put interstellar over inception as my favorite Nolan film. I had to go emotion over overall quality. Both neck and neck

What's so good about corpus Christi? It was soooooo anti-catholic. And hey, I'm all about freedom of speech. If you're gonna bash my religion that's fine, but don't misrepresent my religion and then bash the misrepresentation of it instead of the actual religion.
Yeah the old guard was super bland in every aspect and the music was extra atrocious. People defend the action, bit no the action scenes were badly choreographed and super edited

A FilmTuber from the UK whom I follow called FilmBrain had some CineWorld chain theatres open in his town, Cineworld owns Regal; when he went online to book tickets, the social distancing measures were nearly non-existent, no alternate rows kept empty, no gaps of 2 to 3 seats, nothing. So yeah, not exactly feeling the confidence in Regal.
My local is a small independent theatre and I have gone a few times, they followed social distancing measures and are strict on masks, so I felt safe every single time... aside from Sonic the Hedgehog when some bloody kids wouldn't sit still.

The Old Guard was soooo boring, the only reason I watched the whole thing was because I was watching it with friends. I can safely tell you that you missed nothing, except for several attempts at sequel bait.

Arrival and Interstellar are definitely Awesome. My favorite Stanley Kubrick movie is Dr. Strangelove. FYI, Failsafe was made after Strangelove, but, released first. Both great movies, and who doesn't love Henry Fonda and J.R. sharing scenes. And of course, Slim Pickins, and the voice of Darth Vader.
Almost forgot The Shining. Also awesome!
Favorite Neil Gaiman adaptation: Coraline.

+ I'm glad to hear you're doing okay, and I absolutely agree with you about opening cinemas so early. As someone working in a mall, I can tell you, people are stupid and they just don't want to wear masks unless they are in danger of being fined. I miss going to the movies so much, but I think health and general safety is more important.
Stay as safe as you can. I wish people understood that the reason we're still dealing with this is because so many aren't taking it seriously.

Glad to see that you are well. I think they should postpone “Tenet” until next year, the idea of going to a theatre in the foreseeable future is a bad one for all the reasons you said. I love “Mad Men”, it might be even better than “The Sopranos” (which I love). This might shock you, but a film that I used to love, but now don’t is John Carpenter’s original “Halloween”. After watching the most recent film (which I didn’t like), I decided to rewatch the original and found it very predictable and not scary. Loved see Arya pass by :)
Well, friend, it's not really fair to call "predictable and not scary" a movie from 40 years ago, which furthermore was one of the first on slasher field. Maybe (probably) in 1978 you wouldn't think it's that predictable. Does it feel outdated now? Yeah, sure. But what doesn't? I mean, it's not the type of movie that "never gets old", it's a product of its time.
Bam Rainey I except that not liking “Halloween” is a controversial opinion, but it being 40 years old has nothing to do with it. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” actually predates “Halloween” by a few years and is still one of the most intense, disturbing and terrifying movie experiences ever made.
"Halloween" is a weird one. I was a bit let down when I watched it, with all the hype around it I was expecting something out of this world because people love it to this day, and it was kind of your basic 80's slasher. But I also can't deny how iconic it is, and something about the overall feel of it makes me want to rewatch it.

I tried to watch Mad Men during quarantine cause I actually liked the pilot, but I’m glad I’m not alone in that it just couldn’t hold my attention, lol (my family was so into it and I couldn’t understand whyyyyyyyy)

Btw..I had the same reaction to "Mad Men". I stopped watching early in season 3.
I had a similar experience with Mad Men. Tried watching it twice, didn't even finish the first season. It's so high quality in writing and acting but I just can't get interested enough.
I have re-watched Arrival last weekend with one of my friends. She didn't know it before that. This movie needs so much more attention!

My main issue with cinemas closed in their struggling, they're losing money, and they're constantly ticked off when some releases are sent to streaming or VOD when they were initially supposed to come out in cinemas. My biggest fear in all this pandemic is that if the theaters don't reopen anytime soon, they'll go out of business and we might not get the theatrical experience anymore. So not only will I support theaters when they reopen, but I'll use every precaution necessary to make sure I'll be safe.
Although I definitely understand people's hesitations and frustrations as well. If you're concerned about safety, then stay at home and wait till the movies drop online.
I completely understand that, and this is a concern I have as well. Ideally, we need more ways to support theatres at the moment, and I wish those VOD releases meant some of the money was going to theatres. I know some theatres are selling snacks, and there were a few releases you could rent a few days before they hit VOD with "virtual cinema" and money going to local theatres, but I wish we had that as the main option for every film that's being released digitally right now. It's not nearly as much as they would get with regular showings, but at least it's SOMETHING.

Ey hey hey! It's awesome that you mention I'm Thinking of Ending Things, I've been reading it based on your positive feedback from a previous video. I noticed a poster a few days ago (and never would've guessed that Charlie Kaufman would be part of the adaptation).
Glad to hear you're doing well and that things are okay-ish in your city.
As a kid I loved Pearl Harbor as well lol. I remember crying my eyes out watching that film. But I think you might be kinda right about the reason being liking Ben Affleck's movies huh. I think Ben might have been my first cinematic crush and I think I never grew out of that one, so it's a good thing he's not making shitty movies anymore.

Masks work if everyone is wearing them. They protect other people from you, not you from other people. When theatres say people can take masks off in the auditorium to eat and drink - that's a no.
@@ImpressionBlend Well i think masks do protect you from other people not just them from you but idk for sure. But yes the smart thing is probably just to avoid the theater all together.
