Not sure if it counts as horror or sci fi but would definitely add Vivarium to this list. It is a bit like a black mirror episode but I think it's massively underrated with an amazing performance from Imogen Poots. It also has one of the creepiest kids you will ever see in any movie!

My personal favorites from your list that I’ve actually seen are Pulse (and the shout-out to Cure) and Lake Mungo-yes, everyone should see those. Great video, I love this time of year and really look forward to your spooky-themed videos. It’s like when I was a kid staying up way past my bedtime to watch Elvira host those epic B-movie horror-a-thons. Your sponsor’s food reminded me of astronaut rations the it was named and packaged, but it appears to morph into a pretty good looking meal.
Ok, so I’ve seen about half the films you mentioned and I liked all of them but one (which I didn’t hate, I just had higher hopes for it. The rest are waiting to be consumed not by a hungry mermaid or monster, but by me this week. Thanks for the recommendations! I watched a cool documentary about folk horror movies a few weeks ago you’ve probably seen… It’s called “Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror”, it’s 3 interesting hours long, and it’s currently streaming on Prime Video and Shudder. Possibly elsewhere. Check it out if you have time!
Happy Halloween 🎃 if you don’t make any videos before then - but please make some! It’s the most magical time of the year (Autumn and Winter) and we demand content 🧟‍♂️ ))

Great list. I've seen them all except The Lure. I've come across but have been unwilling to try - yet. Lake Mungo and The Devi's Candy should be considered classics by now, criminally underrated. May was also a fun, quirky find. A young Anna Farris is the friend in it.

  • @looney1023

I just watched Triangle this year and it IMMEDIATELY became a new favorite! I think the problem was when it came out, it was marketed to hide the 'thing' that happens in it, which is good, but that just makes it look like a slasher on a boat. It's WAY MORE than that. Within a day I rewatched it! And I literally wrote in my letterboxd review that Melissa George is an underrated scream queen with this, Mulholland Dr., Turistas (not good, but she's good in it).
Also, I'm always banging the drum for May! Wonderful horror film that looks and feels like a drama.
I'm going to recommend Borgman, a Dutch film that is also hard to describe without spoiling. It's about a homeless man who finds his way into the house of a dysfunctional family, and his presence begins to bring out the worst in everyone. It's a strange watch because it doesn't spoon-feed anything to you; you just watch these people acting in increasingly strange ways with no indication that anything is ever wrong. It's also darkly funny and almost whimsical at times. And there's an image (involving a flowerpot) that is so haunting it's stayed with me ever since.
And as a less horror, more psychological pick, I watched David Cronenberg's Spider for the first time. It's a brilliantly acted psychological mystery about a man living in a halfway house for the mentally ill, using his time to try to piece together a trauma from his past, which literally unfolds in front of his eyes. It's a very different Cronenberg film, but I found it absolutely riveting and devastating. Definitely a twisted character study, like May.

Absentia by Flanagan is definitely a more obscure horror film gem that people should check out. I saw The Lure at the After Dark Film Festival with friends. Even the Polish woman in our group thought it was bizarre.

I can tell you of a different kind of demon possession movie. It's called "The possession of Michael King". Doesn't do the same old things that the other possession movies do. Check it out. 😊

Pulse/Cairo is still, after a decade since my first watch, a movie I've got still to digest and which still gives me mixed feelings. But the woman in black is an absolute gem.

I love Cure so much. Tried Pulse not long after and I pussied out during the basement scene and never got back to it. So creepy! Time to give it another go.

@@ImpressionBlend it's a perfect combination of visual and audible tone. You deffo need that slow creep build up to it as well. I've shown that clip to so many people that didn't find it creepy at all!

Horror have been so horribly disappointing lately, ever since the pandemic 😷.
The last great one was 2020’s “THE INVISIBLE MAN.”
    The WITCH is another one.
And the recent “NO ONE CAN SAVE YOU,” is excellent as well.

The Lure is also my kind of weird, and The Devil's Candy definitely deserves more love. Not a fun film by any stretch of the imagination, but Kotoko by Shinya Tsukamoto is probably the most insane woman unraveling film I've ever seen, not for the faint of heart.

@@ImpressionBlend ... After triangle I watched coherence (not horror) and it was extremely good. Kept me thinking well after it was done ...
