I've read a couple of PhD theses on Ancient Indian Wootz Steel. India was making high quality steel when half of Europe was in early Iron Age, around 300 BC. It was so advanced that Europeans were unable to produce steel of this quality until the mid-19th century. In the years of early industrial revolution, it was European quantity vs Indian quality.
Good to see that even today, India is the second largest steel producer in the world. India makes more steel today than entire USA or Japan or European Union. Within the next 3 years, Indian steelmaking capacity is set to grow by one Africa's worth. And by the end of this decade, Indian steelmaking capacity will be more than USA+UK+EU combined (given the investment by Indian steel giants). And it will continue to grow beyond that.
Even outside India, the largest steelmaker in the world that makes most of European steel (Arcelor Mittal) is owned by the Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. UK's major steelmakers like Corus and Port Talbot are also Indian owned (by Tata). Even in Africa, people of Indian descent practically run Steel Industry in Africa: from Raval in Kenya to Thakwani in Ghana. On top of that we have world renowned Titans of Steel Research, such as Indian Origin Professor Harshad Bhadesia (one of the top steel researchers in the world, absolutely love his lectures).
Even nowadays, Indian steelmakers make some of the most advanced specialty steel grades in the world. For example:-
1.) *Superbainitic Steel:* Made by Tata steel, it is the first nanostructured bulk material manufactured commercially by humanity. Stupidly strong, hard and fracture resistant. This is because crystal size in it is as small as carbon nanotubes which makes for an insane number of barriers to dislocation gliding in its microstructure, thereby resisting plastic deformation (Hall-Petch strengthening). Only downside is that its welding techniques are still under R&D.
2.) *Submarine steels* like the DMR-292A and DMR-292B which are Indian submarine steels in the same class as the American submarine steels HY100 and HY130 (which were used in the current US Navy Seawolf class submarines that allowed them to dive deeper).
3.) *Reactor Steels:* Developed the APURVA steel. The bigger challenge was manufacturing the desired part out of this material. Because it is used for the nuclear reactor's pressure vessel the material must be resistant to irradiation. And it needs to be a massive 4 meter diameter ring of 3/4th meter thickness. Meaning you'll need to make it with Vacuum Ingot Casting. And this part will weigh 200 tons. So the material needs to have extremely low Hydrogen content. But India achieved that also and now all Indian designed IPHWR-700 nuclear reactors will use this material. BARC and L&T did a good job on this one.
4.) *Maraging Steels* for Missiles: India has made advanced steel grade DMR-1700 that offer the same performance as 18Ni1700 Maraging steels but at 1/10th the cost.
5.) *Armour Steels:* High Nitrogen Low Nickel Lightweight Steels for armour of tanks and other armoured vehicles. Has superior ballistic performance and lower weight than the current global standard of Rolled Homogenous Armour made from Ni-Cr-Mo steel.
I could probably go on and on about Indian prowess in Steelmaking. That said, we still have a lot of specialty grade steels left to conquer. Good to see the current Government release production-linked incentive schemes for specialty steels. We'll eventually leave behind Germany in specialty steels. India is regaining its ancient glory in Steelmaking barely 75 years after the British left.

Yes. But a lot of locations could create a lot of steel to complete, but with how expensive it is to have a factory and employ people America doesn't really do it.
It is great that India hasn't fallen victim to the inflation bubble that ruins the nation from within.

    • @death_parade
      @death_parade ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@el_scribbler Actually, despite USA not being big on factories with the entire off-shoring jobs to China rn, USA still is the world's fourth largest steel producer behind China, India and Japan and ahead of the fifth place that is Russia. I guess that is just a byproduct of the sheer scale of the American economy, they are in fourth position despite not really trying.
But yeah, inflation can be deadly. We had it skyrocket in around 2012-13. And that and corruption during reign of the previous government also led to a massive Non-Performing Assets (NPA) crisis in Indian banking sector. This (NPA crisis) was exactly how Japanese growth engine derailed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Thankfully, the new government that came in power in 2014 had a much more prudent policy where they teamed up with the Indian Central Bank (RBI) to have a monetary policy that targets inflation while also rolling out reforms like the new _Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016_ that helped solve the NPA crisis without it blowing up in our faces like what happened in Japan. Now the NPA crisis stands almost solved and private investment is picking up, which helps because all this time, it was public investment that was holding up the economy while the NPA mess got sorted out. Now, Indian economy can finally move ahead full steam.
Sorry, I think I went off on a tangent there lol.

@@death_parade yeah, with our limited factories we still are able to make a lot. But it is true inflation and a corrupt government can ruin a nation in a short period of time. In the last 30 years the US has only had more and more issues put on top of itself financially. Actually Indias culture was of ethics and benevolence, even conquerance within India the culture was not selfish ,it had the culture was to topple the king but not the public .Even the conquered queen was respected and given a queens status . But this was before the British came and before the Moguls came . In total India was ruled for around 1000 years ,but the British had a different kind of barbarism who stripped India of her mentality and knowledge. I know from Hystory lessons that Barbarians could demolish sophisticated cultures as they would be much softer . However its the degree of cruelty I feel that was designed to last for much after they left .so it was not the materialistic damage that I mean but it's the soul and Indias instincts they went after. And still now the entire world is ruled by these political tactics and strategic systems the world perhaps doesn't think about too much .

This was because before the foreign invaders managed to subjugate India, Indian society as a whole was (despite its diversity) united by the single underlying bedrock of Dharma. Dharmic way of life was the bedrock of all Indian cultures.
Then came the invaders, with a different cultural bedrock. In the ensuing wars, what were at war were not two armies or kings or kingdoms. What were at war were two cultures/civilizations. Winning a war between kingdoms entails military victory. Winning a war between civilizations requires victory over the minds of your enemy. This is what drives up violence because you aren't just defeating an Army, you are defeating the minds and souls of an entire population. You are culturally subverting your enemy or else promising cultural genocide or some combination of the two. This is drastically different than a mere military victory.
While the British looted and culturally subverted India for only 200 years, India's Dharmic bedrock has been under attack since at least the past 1200 years. Before that, India was very strong and the likes of Alexander The Great couldn't succeed in their conquest of India. But the centuries following the fall of the Gupta Empire and the ensuing chaos did weaken Indian civilization to the point that foreign invaders started becoming successful around 1200 years ago.

No continent in the Entire world was even near to the Indian's prosperity and advance technology. Even China, which was at the second position, was also 20 times behind the India. Before Internet, when people didnt have that much access to this knowledge, Even Indians, used to laugh at Indian Monks who used to tell India's prosper rich history, but now thanks to the internet, Indians are getting to know about their real Rich history.

And although India had ancient libraries and ancient universities, those were burnt to the ground by the previous set of invaders (Islamic invaders before the Mughals). It was a double whammy. It is amazing we retained any of our handicrafts at all.
15:40 Yes. They left India only when it was not profitable to extract anything more out of India. The definition of rock bottom.
19:49 You are right. The best counter-argument to Britishers of today when they claim that they brought Railways to India is to point to the Indian Space Program. That was something India did for itself and UK still has not managed to do it. India is on the Moon (literally) whereas British are unable to launch a single human hair even to Low Earth Orbit.
21:18 Yeah, the Japanese have had the same Imperial Dynasty for around 1000 years. Staggering to imagine.

Rumor has it that one of the books written by a Buddhist monk that was burnt off by the Muslim invaders contained information about how to tap into the energies of pineal gland using a certain type of herbal mixture and to be able to scan and align frequency of mind to that of an extraterrestrial creature light-years to galaxies away. It contained methods on how to use meditation to control or perhaps choose where your soul could be reborn just to experience that particular avatar / body of individual of the chosen species. Information contained was beyond the level of human comprehension. All the ways of achieving these spiritual-evolutionary powers wiped out by Mughal and Muslim invader brutes forever, impossible to recover.
"Khilji was miffed that a Buddhist monk was able to do what his Islamic doctors couldn't. The Sultan decided to terminate the source of this ability by burning down the Nalanda University library, destroying around 9 million books, and effectively suppressing Buddhism." - Madrascourier-dotcom.
Historians say that it took six and a half months to completely burn the library.

The emphasis on caste system for the country falling at the feet of british isn't quite right because many countries that didn't have caste were also colonised, caste was just a way to asses the families' occupation and what and how they practice. also india was a golden goose before the turks, afgans or arabs invaded india. infighting on the other hand was a legit reason but such is the nature of ruling elites. Give a go to insightful reading to find out how the british rule directly promoted female foeticide, gender discrimination, socialism, crony capitalism, red tape bureaucracy, the thinking of caste in terms of upper and lower by introcuding it in the census and many more.
This is all in past tho, you gave a great reaction where you presented what you think in clear words unlike some. But i don't see how holding grudge and knowing this information can help india unless we are planning an invasion upon britain to settle the score. Brother you must have heard of caste system in India and how bad it is. That is invented by British for divide and rule policy. India in 6th Century BC was facing issue of lower quality of goods production in India and influx of high quality goods. So they have found problem in lack of training period in master apprentice training session. Hence a solution is proposed to hereditary skill transfer so effective teaching could be provided from start. But with time and due to plague and social distancing the society started discriminating people with skills in dirty jobs. This social divide and discrimination was solved in 9th Century by Shankaracharya. But skilled based division remained where people use to live among each other respecting each others jobs and contribution. But Current Caste system and religious divide is created by British to keep people divided and couldn't stand against oppression. Ex- Whabi movement and birth of religious terrorism
