    I add mild white beans to the usual ingredients (banana, strawberries, kale, etc). Adds protein plus fiber and a range of vitamins. I use alubia blanca beans from Rancho Gordo for this. They are small, very mild, and have very thin skins. You'll never know they are there.

    banana, berries, mango, beets (for a rich purple color), kale or spinach, 1/2 an avocado (for creaminess), ginger, mint, cinnamon, kefir coconut water, chia seeds, topped with pumpkin seeds butter (love the contrast of the green with the purple), hemp hearts, and crushed nuts (walnut and brazil) or granola 😋 perfect way to start the day!!!

    I really like the music you add as a background to your videos, Andrew! I've been watching your videos as I've been struggling to eat eat better and more humanely recently and they have been a great inspiration. Thank you! If you are looking for video ideas, perhaps I can offer a suggestion? My lady and I struggle to eat high protein vegan diets because one of us hates beans. So perhaps some high protein meals directed towards people who tend to avoid legumes?

      If you don’t like beans in general, there are surprisingly tolerable ways to get them into your diet. The silken tofu in the smoothie is one way, but I also add an ounce of plain, drained navy beans in my smoothies - they are so mild, you can’t even tell they’re in there! I’ve also puréed navy beans and added them to soups; even my omnivore spouse, who also doesn’t like beans, couldn’t tell they were in there. Good luck 😊

    Been vegan for 12 years! Couple of things to add about protein. The American diet has way too much protein. Also, kale has 2.9 grams of protein per cup. Sooo fruits and veggies also have protein which most people don't know. Its still a great idea to start with a base of protein but a high fiber diet of fruits and veggies have protein as well.

    Recently decided to do a 💯 plant based diet, after reading so many benefits. As a mostly dairy using vegetarian it was really the next step 😉 trying to learn a new way to cook and get balanced nutrients macro/micro has been my challenge. Your recipes have been a great help, thank you. It was recently suggested to incorporate smoothies to up my protein which has been hovering the 30g area daily. Other then adding a pea powder I have been contemplating how to do this without needing a vegan protein powder (added expense). Then bam here’s your fantastic spot on video!!!! Again thanks 👍🏽

      You can tell if you're getting enough protein from your vegan diet by the way you're functioning and looking.

    Can you make a video talking about your journey when you switched to veganism? What made you switch or why you switched? Was it a hard decision? What vegan dishes were you eating in the beginning? Did you ever relapse (lol)? Just an informative video on how you got to where you are now. I’m an omnivore but these videos interest me and make me think that maybe I could make the switch to, or at least add more healthy options to my diet.

    My smoothie includes frozen or fresh: kale and spinach, frozen riced cauliflower, frozen: pineapple, banana, mango and 1/4 cup old fashioned oats, 1 Tbs each chia and flax, plus water. Sometimes it's too much frozen items and I have to add a lot of water. But the water hydrates my body in the morning and yes, it's like I drink/chew my salad and fruit for breakfast. I was adding JOI oat powder but cut that out to reduce calories.

      I wonder if warm water would be good. Maybe even hot water? To counterbalance how cold smoothies can be when lots of the ingredients are frozen. One liquid I love is coconut water though can be expensive. Also nut milks.

  • @d.rabbitwhite
    @d.rabbitwhite ปีที่แล้ว +3

    No matter what recipe I start to do, I end up adding all the things I think I need for the nutrient. for example, I always add both chia and flax, always use dates, use the left over oat stuff from making oat milk, always add more than one kind of green including a good quality (meaning contamination checked) algae or spirulina, lemon, and barberries for high antioxident and nutrient content. The fruits are variable, but they come out similar.
    I get you on the blender. The amount of money I save on sun nut butter, milks, and cheese sauces, is pretty cool. I may have paid for the blender through that money saved.

    I freeze my smoothies in mason jars all the time! It works great, just takes a bit to defrost. It's perfect if you're taking the smoothie to-go and will drink 30 min to an hour later! A metal straw is great to help break up the ice clump if you're impatient. I love the idea of adding silken tofu to a smoothie - I've never done that before! Can't wait to try it (: Thanks for the video!

    • @supernova622
      @supernova622 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you prevent the mason jar from breaking in the freezer?

    • @emp302
      @emp302 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@supernova622 hmm that’s never been a problem for me before! Good quality glass and minimizing drastic changes in temperature are definitely important factors! Also, water expands when it freezes so smoothies will too - leave some space at the top of the jar. I also just saw a tip online to make sure you don’t have many mason jars packed together or else they don’t have room to expand and will clang against each other increasing the risk of breakage… I keep mine right next to each other in my freezer door and it’s been fine but now I’ll keep that in mind.

    My Vitamix is about 30 yrs old. My latest smoothies are called "Chunkies," Once your special smoothie is fully mixed, I add in either/or both of the following: cocoa nibs, organic granola, nuts of your choice or whatever you can think of and pulse till the chunkies are blended in to create a Blizzard-like creation, but without a straw.

    I would make a smoothie almost every day for work, and I would just pour it into an insulated cup with a lid - even a regular travel coffee mug type thing would work here. Anything that can hold temperature will keep it pretty optimal for at least 2-4 hours (depending on your cup). I would stick it in my locker and it would be there for me at my 2 hr break or my lunchbreak 4 hrs in.
    My go-to is:
    small avocado
    one (fresh) apple, peeled and sliced
    a sm handful frozen peach slices
    bit of ginger
    big handful of baby spinach
    apple juice
    Low in protein, so in this case it's more like a healthy snack than a lunch, though in a pinch (or on a hot day when I can't be bothered) it gets me through. It's probably the avocado.
