Norris is one of my favorite pilots. So much honor and respect from a overwhelming unstoppable badass.
Same here, and used his Gouf Custom on many builds in the Gundam Breaker game series and fun to use in Battle Operation 2 as well.

Dude your hangar bay is insane! Nice job on the Gouf, just the right amount of weathering/battle damage. Less is more and theres nothing worse than a kit that looks like it was dipped in a can of motor oil lol...Shading is on point too, gets better and better!
I have this kit. You are so right about practically everything you said. I knew what I was getting into though when I acquired it and I knew that I would be painting it, which I always do anyhow. The main problem with this kit and most of the other Gunpla's from this era are the lack of range in articulation, as you had mentioned. You also mentioned that some parts attach very loosely, which is true. Additionally I'd like to add that others are so tight they seem practically glued on, so you have to be very careful in planning because the really tight parts are hard to disassemble without breaking. Another huge issue with this one is how weak the knee joints are. If you shake the model while carrying it in your hands the legs wiggle around. The shield and Gatling gun assembly is extremely heavy, which you also mentioned, and its weight starts pulling down on the arm ever so slightly so that days later the arm is lower than the way you left it when you last posed it (ha ha!). Mind you, I've also experienced that with newer kits.
On the plus side this kit, like others released around the same time, includes a 1/20 scale figure of the pilot (Norris Packard in this case) measuring about 3 inches in height. I really like that about these older MG's. Overall it's really not a bad model. But we've been pretty spoiled with the master grade 2.0's and all the other newer ones with their improvements in sculpting, detail, precision, articulation, color separation, etc. you did an excellent job with yours. It looks beautiful! I like this review and will be further exploring your channel.

Just wondering, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone pronounce “gouf” the way you do. I always thought it was said like “goof” like as in “Mickey, Donald, and Goofy”. Sounds natural next to things like “Gelgoog” and “Zam”
Either way, great work as always. You got me to get into gunpla recently and Painting in specific. I ordered a GM sniper II to take my Master Grade virginity since I weaned myself off of HG’s for a while. I’m going to try and employ some of the methods you use to give it a worn, rugged dogs of war look without it being decrepit. Kinda like your gouf. Thanks for introducing me to my new hobby.
I always pronounced it like the beginning of the word "Gopher" and I was surprised when I started hearing people pronounce it as "Goof". My friend just pronounces it "NoZaku".

That Gouf fight was indeed an amazing fight. You truly got to experience skill and tactics at work. Making it a great fight, if not a master piece.
For that something disney star war movies don't understand. Things making sense and characters relaying on their skill and tactics, is way freaking more awesome than just randomly being granted powers out of the blue. For Rey being granted out powers and abilities out of the bloody blue. Doesn't make her cool or awesome. It just makes it seem like she was simply handed things due to existing. Like a rich kid getting everything they wanted.
While Norris is a soldier, a mobile suit pilot. He has the backstory needed to explain all of his skills and abilities. He is an arc and everyone knows it, not just from mere words but from showing off what he can personally do. Everything was done due to his own actions, wits and skill with a mobile suit. Which is what makes it so amazing, not only does he come off as smart and amazing fighter, it also makes perfect sense and was done due to hard work and effort. Tactics and skill just makes for way more entertaining and better fights than just pulling powers out your rear. Heck just look at the throne room fight, the ship chase, during last jedi or even force awakens Kylo vs Rey. Rey just becomes an amazing swordsman out of the blue. Kylo never uses force push to knock her out again. Rey comes off like a god and Kylo comes off like a moron. All of it is far worst than the Gouf Fight in ms 08. Ms 08 Gouf fight had far more care and effort put into it, to make sure it didn't just make sense, but also the tactics and skills shown off by Norris.
Norris is a bloody hero. Everyone should watch that fight, if they want to understand why tactics, logic and things making sense is not only good for fights but story telling in general.

The Gouf Custom is a great kit. Yes it may be dated but it is still a good kit. I really hope that it gets a 2.0

8th MS Team is one of my favorite Gundam series. I loved how it wasn’t off the wall, over the top, Super Saiyan Gundam brawling. It was more tactical and the mobile suits actually behaved and handled like gigantic robots. One of my favorite scenes is when a mobile suit is ambushed in the jungle and taken out by a team of infantry with rocket launchers.
Your hanger set piece never ceases to amaze no matter how many times I've seen it.
Agreed... And the built in lights make it look better than anything Gerry Anderson built (you're gonna have to Google him! Haha).

On the weathering comment. Most weathering I've seen is battle damage and dirt not really rust. But I would make some sense with if your idea is neo zeon / zeon remnants theme. They probably wouldn't have the facilities, resources or personnel to preform proper maintenance on the Mobile suits. Also I don't know about the our branchs but in the US Army so vehicles have some rust. It's not the biggest issue because it's not going to impact the vehicle doing its normal function, duties or operations.

I just finished mine the other day, and I can echo a lot of your complaints with the engineering. One I felt you missed calling out specifically was the piping. HOLY CRAP, that took so long to clean and polish up every single piece. Can't imagine the kind of agony it would've caused if they were a darker color and I couldn't get away with just giving the parts a brief once-over with 800-grit. (Later on I figured out a trick where I thread the parts onto the shaft of a mini-screwdriver and use it as a grip while I sanded the stress marks off, but by the time I figured that out I was nearly done anyway.) Maybe I'm inefficient and weird about my building, but that piping was half the build time for me.
I just finished the MG Barbatos and I agree rust has no place on a weathered Gundum. I just did color mod. and oil paint streaking. I ve started the MG F 91 and it will be done in a desert camo of Sand and Blue Gray. Love your subtle color work. Nice vid stay safe.

Ive only discovered your channel about a month ago but man am I glad I did! Lol Beautiful light weathering job on this kit! I'm a big fan of your videos and the style you shoot them in; it's very relaxing (yet not boring at all) and entertaining at the same time. That Gouf is ICONIC. You did a pretty great job on it, bro. I feel what you were saying about how so many cool kits never get updates and stuff, I'm still annoyed that the Barbatos MG that just came out isn't the Lupus Rex, which is what I've been waiting for since we'll probably never get a MG of Flauros. The Rick Dias is also a killer mobile suit that will never get a great looking kit, and as it stands has been my worst experience with any kit. If anyone reading this was thinking about picking up an HG Dias, don't. lol
This is one of my all time favorite MS. Plus it’s from my favorite gundam series. I once did a decent 144th kit a decade ago but since gave up model building as my kids busted up most of my collection. Norris was my ideal Zeon pilot and I always admired his soldiers mentality. Straight up skills no newtype enhancement crap.

Gundam, I'd love to see you put a custom MS together as if you were it's ace pilot! Kit bashing, custom parts sculpting and paint you've definitely have those skills to do so.
that will happen on a later date. But first I have to kitbash and RG GP01 with an HG gp03 to create something worth looking at for my Dendrobium future project.
@@ItsAGunpla When you do make your own custom kit take a head shot of Fluffy and run it through Photoshop or something to make it look cartoonish and make a DIY waterslide with it for the kit to put on the shield or shoulder armor (you could put a faction name like"Nut Crushers" under the image for laughs).

Truth be told, if a metal build type comes, I'll be on top of it. With some of the 3rd party recently have been Zeon, 1/72 but if it has the features it can go with the perfect grade resin kit of the Ground Gundam from this series.
Hornets aren't coverent in rust because of the composite materials used. They are covered in grime and grease and fuel though.

Great review! I also watch your other channel. I am thinking this will be my second gundam after I am done with my EZ-8. I am hoping for a 2.0 for EZ-8. It came out Oct 2000 so I don't think it is coming out any time soon.

I'm 100% with you on the ridiculous, over-the-top weathering some people do to their kits. The only exception to this, for me, would be 08th ms or other long campaign, minimal support outfits.

With all the peoples into zeon I see... I don't understand why Bandai doesn't release more updated version of them ? It's like for the kshatriya everyone is begging Bandai to release it but Bandai goes "nah! Enjoy that 11th strike freedom instead ". Gundam you need to do something about it ! Lol

Ever thought to do a lot bash of the Zaku 2.0 MG and the Goif Custom? From my understanding, that newer version of the Zaku master grade is pretty good.
I think we will get a MG Gouf Custom 2.0. Either when Bandai decides to reboot the MG 8th MS Team line, or as a P-Bandai. The reason I believe this is the already developed the frame from the MG Gouf 2.0, so all they need to do is slap the Customs' armor on that.
I'm surprised Bandai hasn't made:
- MG MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom (Ver 2.0)
- MG RX-79(G) Gundam Ground Type (Ver 2.0)
- MG RX-79(G)Ez-8 Gundam Ez8 (Ver 2.0)
Considering we got an MG Alex 2.0 I'm surprised we haven't gotten a Kampfer 2.0. That suit is extremely popular, and it's so old it needs screws to build.

those ammo belts are just great. heavier than your might think and has a beautiful roll or ribbon feel to it. worth it getting its own blurb or to be a focal point in a greater review of metal up parts. speaking of metal ups, doesn't newtypehq have some offerings in that department?

Holy shit PapaG I actually got goosebumps watching this one. God Norris was a fucking BAMF, and the man goes straight for the jugular, err the cockpit. Also really liking your weathering its like at a good level of battle wear but not too much of it. I can tell you actually thought alot about where the rust or dirt should be if the MS saw action.
edit: Norris would've/could've ended the entire 08th MS team if he prioritized living over Aina's feelings and the Guntank mission which was null anyways due to the GM sniper later on.
you actually can get an led in the mono-eye... it's a complete pain, but it's doable. I did it for my first build, along with in the cockpit. I want to get another kit in order to do a better conversation for it.
I donate my gundam model kits to CHKD so it's great to see someone else who likes to help others with there kits.

There is a resin (dress-up?) kit for the gouf which is fantastic, made by legendary and now extinct Neo Grade team.
