  • My ice maker broke during the week, it required a 50XTYZ motor which is only available from chinese suppliers and takes 2-3 months to arrive to sydney. So this is my temporary solution that works perfectly and I hope it will be assistance to everyone else in the same situation

Excellent, I had the same issue with an identical ice maker, thanks for sharing

That's a great workaround! I wonder though if you want to put in a longer rod and the 4 or so vanes that it originally had. I'm thinking that you might have problems with it freezing up with frost climbing up the chiller tube if you don't have a bit more stirring. If you did that you could probably make this the permanent repair and forget that (probably expensive) 3-month motor.

l wilton haha yeh for sure, for a more permanent solution then I would definately have to use a steel rod with proper connections 😂😂 hopefully the motor won't take too long

You could probably just get someone to make it at a metal workshop.

Excellent - the other problem you can get is there filter gets blocked or water feed gets blocked and doesn't fill. The machine I have is a Polar zb50 - seems identical to yours😊

Oh yes that’s a common problem! The inlet valves are really cheaply made! Yes it’s the same I believe, just different brand names. But theyre relatively easy to fix when they break down

I have a polar t316, I had it plugged in/ connected up to the water flow for almost 2 days and no ice was produced it just kept pouring out the water after every cycle from the tray into the ice storage area
Any ideas what the issue could be

Hy bro.. can you tell me, how to measure whether the sensor is good or not using the avo meter

If Theresa very high reading is megohms or zero reading then it's bad otherwise kilohms then good

has anyone had a problem where the water bucket lever comes off the big wheel, causing the ice bucket to hang open.

I can try, unfortunately it’s always hard to diagnose unless you see it in person to observe it

Hi.I have same machine.can't start.showing only faulty light

    • @HenrysHowTos
      @HenrysHowTos  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Do you have water? Usually fault light means issue with the water inlet solenoid. Unless it’s major like a compressor issue

Hi Henry, That's a very clever substitute! Unfortunately, the original design idea is poor, and is the reason why the original motor burnt out. You see, when the water has congealed into a thick icy slush or into solid ice itself, the sensor vanes cannot spin or experience a lot of resistance in spinning. The correct design solution would then STOP power to the vane motor. This doesn't happen here. So the motor continues to try to rotate but it cannot and this heats it up. Eventually it fails because the armature coil burns out. The replacement motor will suffer the same fate.
However, extending your ingenuity a bit more may provide the solution. Ice has a considerably lower electrical conductivity than water (see for example: van.physics.illinois.edu/qa/listing.php?id=16435). This device already has a conductivity sensor for sensing when the ice making tank is full. The same sensor can be made to do double duty, to sense the completion of freezing. And that sensor will never wear out. A simple comparator circuit to sense resistance is all that you'd need to complete the design. All the best!

100% agreed! unfortunately most these companies use the cheapest parts
and ideas possible. Thats definately an interesting point you have,
might have to do some research actually :) thanks for that!

The ice bullets form around the bits of pipe which dip into the water so there is no slushy mess. The bullets grow towards each other which eventually slows/stops the paddles - this then triggers the tray to empty. Minehas been going for over 15 years and was second hand when I bought it😊
