    Fun fact: all the guys in the band has their physical appearance and/or stage mannerisms based on real musicians. Ryuske, the lead guitarist (the guy with the LP) is based on Jimmy Page, Koyuki, the rhythm guitarist and lead character (the kid with the White Falcon, and later a yellow Tele) is based on Tom Morello, Chiba, the lead singer/rapper is based on Zach DeLaRocha, Taira, the bassist is based on Flea, and Saku, the drummer is based on Chad Smith (i think).

    • @andrewpappas9311
      @andrewpappas9311 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I thought Ryusuke was based off Cliff Burton from Metallica because of the hair but I can see him as Jimmy Page. As for Taira and Chiba I got the guys they were based off of pretty fast (Taira also plays a MusicMan StingRay like Flea, which I loved because Flea inspired me to buy a StingRay for myself)

    The “bullet holes” were made with a 1/2” drill bit, then chipped out and distressed around the edges to create the “entry wound”. The holes are accurate to the anime, but are 100% tool made.

    • @EatMyAstro
      @EatMyAstro 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Ive spent more time around bullets than guitars. By the looks of this guitar, a drill bit was used. I think if slugs that size were used, it would destroy the guitar. Cool story though. 🤘

    • @remb9614
      @remb9614 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I totally agree. 7 big holes, my first thought was 1911 but the holes look too big. The back tearing out alone would destroy it especially with a caliber that big. I’d love to own a relic guitar with a bullet hole though! Great idea.

    • @drjsmajor
      @drjsmajor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@remb9614 1911 with expansion would make about a .7 inch hole. If using FMJ, the hole would likely be about .5 inches. 9mm would expand (again assuming hollow points) to around .6--but they start out around .4 inches (same with .380, .38 Special and .357 Magnum which are all 3 the same size projectile as 9mm). This would be consistent with a .45 fmj hole in wood but as others have mentioned the holes on the back would likely not be straight through due to the round basically blowing out the back of the guitar. It is possible with enough energy (like if shot with a Barrett .50 to get a clean through and through hole through a guitar but I would be shocked if someone shot a guitar with a Barrett). A handgun caliber would lose energy too quickly to be a through and through and would cause enough negative deceleration to transfer its energy to the guitar itself which would lead to a bigger hole in the back than in the front. If one attempted to fire a handgun that had this amount of energy, the recoil of such a weapon would blow the gun out of the shooters hand. It would very likely require a long gun to do this. If we wanted to believe this was ACTUALLY shot, a 20 g shotgun with a slug would be the best contender as slugs (round) are NOT made to transfer energy and could pass right through. 20 g slugs are around .6 so that would be bigger than these holes, however. a .410 (which is acutally .45 inches) slug could create these size holes but I would question that a .410 has enough energy.
      Short answer--it would have to be a long gun to make these holes. A handgun could not have that level of energy. A VERY hot .45 Long Colt (not 1911) fmj fired through a rifle (Henry makes those) maybe could do this.

    • @remb9614
      @remb9614 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@drjsmajorI was thinkin a lead slug from a shotgun would tear out the back even worse then a rifle. Big slow lead slugs dont tend to penetrate very well and stay together. So maybe a 50bmg idk lol. Might have to try this out!

    Joe Perry has a guitar that was shot, by RS Guitarworks. Although that was part of a whole gunslinger vibe, but according to a very old rig rundown (I think the old Dunlop version rather PG) they did shoot it to get the bullet hole rather than fake it.
    Ron Wood has an LP with a 'bullet hole' around the controls, but that was badly installed now removed gizmo but he didn't get the jagged hole fixed. Although this was back in the 90s so might have by now.

    Hey Austin...cool video and story! I've always had a fascination with Japanese culture, growing up with 70s cartoons and Godzilla of course... what a cool cartoon! I'll have to check it out! Thanks for sharing! 😎🎸🐦🤘

    Love how Austin says in the beginning he will explain this and does so in this video, yet people are commenting why someone shot this guitar seven times. Great job people of the internet.

    Its an option to a chambered guitar. Some people cant afford a luthier. Id be interested weight before and after. You could paint it t v. Yellow although might make it look cheesy

    We used to stab my 73 strat with buck knife while on stage. B and I got in a fight once, and he stabbed my vintage strat while I was playing it. It made an awesome noise and left a cool ding... I wasn't even mad. So, we started to do it every show and I'd leave the knife in for most of the set.

    Hey! I’m just curious. Have you ever seen or heard of the epiphone American series guitar produced in 1982? It’s a tiny blip in gibson history but you really don’t see too many or let alone hear of too many on the market today. I have one of these guitars, an epiphone American series sg special II manufactured in the gibson Kalamazoo Michigan plant in 1982. If you could dig up some more information or get your hands on one I think it would be an awesome review with a bit of gibson history around the time of the “law suit” guitars.

    This reminded me of the story about Gibson exec's bringing a stratocaster to a shooting range, for a second I thought this may have been Fender's revenge as I've never seen the anime. I'd still rock it...

    Hell yes I’d rock this guitar! I play a ton of live gigs and this would be a huge conversation piece. I’d imagine some people would know what was going on, but 99% of the crowd would be absolutely dumbstruck! I do weird things to my guitars before I head on stage, like putting rhinestone on the edges or wrapping a crazy piece of fabric around them, wherever it makes sense to do so. I wouldn’t shoot, or rather. Drill into my guitar to make it look like it’s been shot. Unless I was playing a beater guitar. Maybe? But I would definitely bring this on stage. It’s too bad it’s in Japan. I’d buy this right now if I could.

    Hey Trogly!
    What do you think about the Gibson ES 339 Traditional Pro?
    It seems that it was a limited run between 2012-2013, there aren't many of those out there and not a single review in depth like yours
    Love the show!

      Definitely drilled and the detailed to imitate. Anyway the ballistics would most likely result in more overall damage unless those are .50 cal solid steel bullets that won't mushroom at all. Even so I'd have to see it to believe it.

    • @SuicidalGrind
      @SuicidalGrind 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, you're wrong. A bullet that fast could make a clean hole in the front, especially considering you don't know what they shot with, or any of such. I'd say don't do some "conspiracy theories" unless you actually know for sure it isn't bullet holes, cause you don't know who did it and if they used a gun or not.

    • @thesickrobot6924
      @thesickrobot6924 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@SuicidalGrind Nah, the two upper holes on the left would've made some major cracks if they were real bullet holes. They're drilled and messed with to imitate bullet hole, same with the pickguard.

    I’m really Diggin’ your channel here 📺
    I can’t believe I’ve learned more about
    Les Paul’s in the last 8 months watching your channel here than anywhere else at one time 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
    I was wondering if you would do a a show on, and/or again, but maybe a different aspect of, say those BFG GLP’s ?
    Only Gibson ? No Epiphone ?
    After seeing one at the local Guitar Center 8 months ago, then that night scouring the Web, looking for another and trying to figure out if it was a custom finish and a one of a kind style looking surface and then I found the episode you did on one and that’s when I became a fan and have been watching ever since 🎸 Anyways, I’ve been doing some searching since and it appears their are other color finishes, is that true ?
    When did these come out and is it just from Gibson and not Epiphone ?
    Are these considered middle to upper class,
    in the terms of decent pricing for
    Les Paul’s ? Do you personally like them ?
    Why can’t I get off this one Green Crocodile 🐊 looking guitar ?
    Keep up the good work !!! 🌵
