Hey Trogly, what was the reason they were saying it was a fake? Everything I see is as it should be. I've seen alot of fakes running through the pawnshops where I live. The one sign that they all have had, if the owner won't let you go through and pick it apart is the serial number. The serial number is always stamped after the finish has been applied, where Gibson finishes over the serial. I'm not sure if you have come across that, but I've seen atleast 10 that had the serial done that way.

Bingo. I worked in a shop that had a genuine 60's Les Paul used; people came in on a daily basis asking to check it out. The guitar was immediately impressive; I know this because they spent a VERY long time playing it. I would watch them jam on it for upwards of 15-30 minutes. They would then ask the price (well over a thousand), look closely at the headstock or the bridge or any other usually suspect part, and say--without any further careful inspection--"I can tell it's a fake....look at this, that, and the other. I found out that some of the SG's are indeed wired that way, plus someone had put Schecter pups in it so they could have moved the bridge volume pot to where it is at. The one piece neck, The guitar was marked as a second and the neck could very well be why plus I did find others who had similar guitars, Les Paul's, ES styles and other SG's all were marked as seconds and all were supposed to have either one piece necks but had multi piece or supposed to have multi-piece and yet it had a single piece. But the output jack on the side, that was the real killer and the one that made me almost contact you lol. I must have spent about a week trying to find just one example of mid 80's SG special like mine but I could not find it. I had installed a kill switch where the output jack was at and I installed a new jack in the side. But when I went to repaint it white I decided to do away with the kill switch since I found I rarely used it. But, if I put the jack back there I would now have a hole on the side. Plus I prefer it there anyway, Oh it sucks to get old plus be on pain medication 24/7, you tend to forget things lol.
Thanks trogly.....Im grateful to have a guy like you so trust worthy and honest about these guitars. It's so amazing to have someone who helps get the correct information on guitars that can be very pricey. I've been playing for a year and a half and would love a guitar of the quality of Gibson but looking at the price of those kinds of guitars can raise so many questions but your information on these guitars helps take some of the stress away......thanks trogly it's so nice to have someone like you with the information on these high end guitars!!! :) Keep up the good work.
If you are located in USA you can easily afford a used Gibson for less than a new Ibanez... Ask to Austin, I'm pretty sure he will propose you an awesome deal!!
Any one who sees your work, can't have a different image of you and your seriousness way to do business, this is the only action to take on this sad little bumps that will always appear on the road, keep up the good work.
Somebody's accusing you of selling a fake and just yesterday I was talking about how what an honorable guy you were and how great your knowledge of Gibson was and that you deserve way more than 150 subscribers.I think you should be up to a million by now personally
The Guitar Hangar is a shop in Brookfield owned by my friend Rick Tedesco. I used to teach there. I've known Rick for 25 years. He deals in a LOT of rare and collectible pieces. I played the very first prototype of the Carlos Santana PRS there around 2001? 2002? And by Carlos Santana prototype, I mean, this was the very first guitar Paul built for Carlos! After building the guitar, he built a second one and THAT is the one he presented to Carlos. Paul verified the authenticity of the guitar and provided Rick a COA for the it. Rick also owned Mick Ronson's original Les Paul with the Sanded face and his Marshall Major. He sold them to a very wealthy Mick Ronson fan a few years ago. He still owns Mick's personal vinyl collection and pedals. You should definitely check out the Guitar Hangar.
I have one just like that, the red laquer is brighter. I took it to 2 different GC's and had their "experts" tell me it was a Chinese POS. So I took it to Gruhns in Nashville and had a complete evaluation and appraisal. They took it apart, checked everything and it was 100% legit... (so later I bought another one in "light old barn gray", gorgeous wood grains). So I went in with one guitar and left with 3 and a melted credit card. You cant be a collector and go to Gruhns without buying something. I have GAS.
Sometime people take authentication process wrong too. I've had to tell people I can't say it's authentic and have them take it as I said it's fake. Also some people don't know how to throw the towel in when they should and just call it fake instead of saying they can't authentic it.
wouldn't that make it the perfect model to fake then ? (not saying trog sells fakes tho , just an interesting thought as its so unexpected that would make it the perfect model to do a fake of lol)
@@-CLASSIFIED- but at the same time wouldn't it be easier for Gibson to win a lawsuit against a more specific model rather than a standard LP or 335 etc.?
Yeah i gotta kit I built from Pango for 200$ but it is not my Les paul. But it is pretty close same neck dimension, but they are a little sloppy on the headstock about 1.5mm off from one side to the other. I wish I could afford A real one. Those hollow body single cut, sorta Like Alex Lifeson had in the 80's they had those on sale back in '14 or so.
Just to confirm that buying a guitar from you has been an outstanding experience. I certainly haven't been screwed over, and still enjoy my beautiful and unique guitar!
I have watched a ton of videos from Trogly - I have to say they are some of the best videos on TH-cam. I am a Gibson fan and i reference these videos a ton.
Most know-it-alls don't know that a florentine exists so that is probably why. Obviously I'm not seeing it in person so I can't say for sure, but I have done comparisons in person, and something I've noticed is that fakes typically do not go to the trouble to do the binding that way (with the binding raise at the frets so that the ends of the frets are made of binding) so that does suggest is it likely a Gibson.
It's so easy to shout "fake", without any motivation. That player demo video is awesome. At first it sounded like a classic jazz guitar, but with distortion it became a biting animal. Wow, I'd definitely rock that.
I’ve been playing guitar since 1974, played music professionally for over thirty years and I now have a small guitar store myself. There’s SO many good fakes out there, everyone has PTSD in the buying guitars department, as well as me having it! I bought a nice 2006 Classic Les Paul the other day and looked it over hard before I paid for it. I bought a Chibson Yngwie Strat a few months ago because it was so close, no one has known it was a Fugazi until I told them. It’s not for sale, it’s just one of mine but if the guy hadn’t told me, I probably wouldn’t have figured it out right away. This one would be a pretty odd one to fake, it’s a little too rare I think. You definitely know your stuff, a lot better than I do, I learn quite a bit from this channel.
Not sure how I found this guy, but I've binged more than a couple of his videos. He's a good natured guitar 'nerd with excellent taste, I'll say that. So much for that accusation as he showcases a previous vid and current market prices.
To call you basically a liar is insulting your show is one of the few channels on watch on stupidtube I watch your channel more then I watch tv that is so disrespectful saying it’s a fake they have no idea what their talking about I have learned so much from your show thank you I appreciate it
I ran into the same question as at 2:20 or so thinking the "inlay" on my Custom Shop 2016 LP may be decals due to their clear borders. Rather than crying "fake," I did a brief research to find as you correctly explain that this is common and correct. I slept well that night. It's all a part of paying so much for a genuine Gibson.
for someone to say your not educated on gibson guitars is crazy. you are but i,m not a gibson fan and yet i still come to this channel.i like fender g&l shec guitars and many more but oh well..you know your gibsons. :)
I bought a 2013 Gary Moore Les Paul, not because I was a huge Gary fan but I wanted a Les Paul and it looked really cool with the lemonburst. So, I changed a whole bunch of stuff like knobs, truss rod cover, and changed stuff from cream to black like the poker chip, pickup rings, and toggle switch. I did keep all the old parts and have the receipt and nothing was modded that can't be undone, but I'm sure anyone who sees it and isn't an expert would think it was a fake.
Noel Gallagher from Oasis played on of these in a silver sparkle finish on the Be Here Now tour in '97. Being a huge Oasis fan, I saw them live and immediately started saving up for the Epiphone version, which was branded "LP Elite" and was only made for one year, I think. They came in the typical Black Beauty LP Custom finish. Nice guitar, I still have it!
Listen buddy, unless you're born into money. Most of us start out on a $150 electric that we can afford. If you want a real gibson , you will eventually get one. Stick with it man, and don't let anybody tell you that unless it's a custom it not a real gibson. I hope to see your dreams of a gibson come true. Take care
@@sid5156 nice, so encouraging. thank you very much, for the hope and wishes, in my case and in my country, a cheap gibson could go between 3 to 5 months salary, but hopefully one day, as for now, I settle and very happy and proud, of my, used purchased, 2009 sg g-400 and 2008 lp gold top p90, Chinese Epiphones. I really enjoy, The Trogly's great and detailed and honest videos. take care
Been watching and buying from Austin since the long long ago carpet video days. Stand up dude, oozes integrity. It would be quite the rope-a-dope to teach people so much about guitars while selling fake ones.
Korina top- yes please! I love the black binding, I think it makes the wood pop instead of challenging your eye for attention, like cream. just got an ES Special II and it's a blast. BTW, they picked the wrong guy to accuse of fakery. I learned from you how to read a serial number, let alone your knowledge of specs. they: oops! - Trogly: hold my Florentine. Ü ♫
I'm so happy that theres a Gibson Expert out here that can verify this mess of fakes nowadays. It's scary for someone like me who knows no way near enough to separate them! My next purchase is gonna be a Paul Custom and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pay you to find a proper one!!!🤙🇺🇸🙏🎶🤘
Always appreciate your reviews. Mr.T. But having no money I purchased three Chinese Gibson knockoffs for under a grand: Beautifully made and sounding Creme SG Les Paul Custom; A Green Les Paul Custom w/Quilted Top; and just arrived: A '61 ES-5 Switchmaster w/ Cherry Sunburst, Bigsby, and Abalone trim through the body, neck and headstock. And all three w/gold hardware. Playing each through my white Marshall half-stack and T.C. Electronics G-Major, I'm happy on a budget bro!
Not only is it real but it’s worth a buck. I can send you photos of 2 that I’ve owned as well as the Gibson sales brochures. The really rare ones are the ones called Bantam, the name they got before being told not to use it by Ludwig. They made them as standards with AMAZING quilts, customs, even diamond holes. After 1995/96 they kept making the custom version until 2000ish.
That Caribbean Blue Florentine Supreme has been in Reverb for ages... Atleast 2 years now. And the price has gone up and down like a rocking chair. I think seller at most asked around 7000 ,- euros of it.
I bought the blue sparkle Florentine from the Guitar Hanger 8 months ago. Absolutely like new. The owner plays in the Alice Cooper Band. Good guy to buy from.
Yeah, I'd rock that P90 Florentine for sure! Just the right balance to me between fancy enough that it'd feel special every time I played it but not so fancy that I'd be scared to play it at all! As for this situation, it's kind of an indictment of the prevalence of fake Gibsons that the first thing people think when they see a Gibson model they don't recognise is that it must be fake, isn't it? Hoping to be buying my first Gibson fairly soon and it's a real concern for me as it feels like there are so many fakes out there! Really wish more could be done to keep them out of the market. I don't have anything against copies of guitars, and Gibson's "play authentic" bollocks can do one, but the people making and selling on guitars designed specifically to fool people into thinking they're buying a Gibson are scum.
Yep! I’m somewhat new to your channel and I can say from your videos and your information you are legit! I never thought of buying any guitar from the internet because of fear of getting ripped off, so I have always bought my guitars from dealers like GC but after following your channel for some time and know that you sell guitars I would not hesitate to buy one from you. I hope your name gets clear and that you get an apology, at the very least. Cheers! 🖖 & 🤘 Max Power
I've heard similar stories of people asking a Rolex dealer about their vintage watch and getting told it's fake because the dealer has no clue about anything apart from their current models. The person then goes back to the small shop they bought it from saying that it's a fake watch, not realising it's actually a genuine one.
That’s crazy. You are definitely respected for your extraordinary knowledge of Gibson’s so I think it comes down to the consignment shop’s error or lack of knowledge. As other posters have said, I would also believe the owner would know more regarding their instruments details to be confident of what they had. What is the name of that consignment shop? Probably not a shop I want to do business with. 😀 Great post!
I would totally rock a Florentine, except for the fact that I'm a bassist. That being said, two out of three of my current basses are semi-hollow bodies with f-holes. I love the look of that style
I remember these. Didn't make them very long. 3-4 years, I think. I only remember one famous guy who played them, and that was Paul Jackson, Jr. This seems like a case of 2 people going into a shop and seeing something they've never seen or heard of, so it must be fake. I admin a couple big guitar pages on Facebook, and the 'experts' always pop out of the woodwork with their 'fake' comments, but no justification why they think it's 'fake', or it's something that could've been changed or replaced over the last 45 years. Anyway, cool piece. Hope you got the confusion straightened out.
Oh I've been to the Guitar Hanger before! Tiny little high-end shop in a residential area. They had a bunch of rare limited run guitars and amps, so doesn't surprise me that they'd have those Florintenes.
I own a 2014 Epiphone Les Paul Florentine and it's more than worth it. It resonates amazingly and has more low-end than your standard Les Paul. I think having a Gibson model would be great but I don't think it's worth $4,000 compared to the $650 I paid for my Guitar.
They really are beautiful guitars. If I had the cash atm I would definitely buy one, though not for ‘rocking out’. I’d like to see how they stand up against the Gibson arch tops in terms of tone, would certainly be an adventure!
I would rock either of those blues. Maybe the Karina top. I kinda like that black bindings. But I don't have the 4k for a guitar right now. Also that wine color that you reviewed was fire.
I used to buy french pastries from Trogly when he used to sell them at yard sales back in the mid 90s, and they were always delicious. Therefore, I conclude he is not into dodgy deals, he's all about that flakey, all butter pastry.
I bought a L.P. Bantam Elite from Elderly in Lansing in early part of 90's. Solid Cherry color, no grain , but all the other Custom shop features. It was a beauty, but the nut was cut wrong for the 1st string, right at the edge of the neck. I wound up having to sell it. Wish I had it now. I think I paid $1300-$1400 for it new. I got married and had to move into a condo, so no storage. Had to sell 22 Custom shop guitars. Shame on me, for sure. Thanks Austin for all the info and entertainment you provide. BTW I saw your review of the Tribute Series...I got an open box 2019 Tribute, marked Ice Tea, but it is Tobacco . (even I can tell the difference with my cataracts) Best regards.
Ohh those custom florientine's...😍😍😍...the '97 and '98 ('96??) I was so close to buying one about a year ago on ebay. It was black, the listing was posted for a long time. There were only like 5 (kinda blurry) pictures on the listing. You may have even seen the post yourself. I think it was around $ 3k. My concern was because of how long the guitar was for sale. It seemed to me that there was something i didnt know because that guitar should have sold quick at that price and in as good of condition that it appeared to be in.
I try to live by these three words every day, learned as a native NYC guy: TRUST, BUT VERIFY... To me, these three simple words can help to reduce or eliminate misunderstandings and identify outright fraudulent behavior. I also tell everyone I interact with that they should do the same with me and whatever I say or offer. Of course, dealing with a fire-breathing mythical dragon is the exception to that rule. I've never met Sir Trogly, but if there was ever a guy who oozes honesty and veracity, its Austin. Unless of course Austin happens to be a world class actor. :) As they say in the military....confidence is HIGH in Trogly.
LOL I remember that guitar and thinking I would love to purchase it. I love the LPC Florentines, but find them to be a bit over priced. How would ANYONE accuse you of selling a fake Gibson? That in and of itself is funny, IMHO. They probably have no idea of the guitar. I have seen guitar shops where their experts are idiots, and that sounds like what has happened here. Anyway, during the video, I saw the 2014 LPC Florentine w/Natural Flamed Maple in Belgium and am putting an offer on it. Thanks for the video.
I bought one of these in wine red just like that one in 2008. I believe it was also a 1996. I took it to GC to get it appraised, there 3 young gentlemen working all in their 20s. Obviously metal heads. They told me it was a fake because Gibson never made an F hole Les Paul. I knew better, I've been collecting Gibsons since 1972. I left thinking after seeing the tattoos and hair I understood, now if it had been a 80s Japanese Kramer they probably would have a vast knowledge of every screw on it. I went to 2 other local shops and heard the same thing. So I made a 5 hour drive to Gruhn's Guitars for a written appraisal. (This is very dangerous because everytime I go to Gruhn's I need help carrying stuff to the car.) Yes, it is 100% original, verified by surgery. It is true most people have not heard of these or ever seen one. Fantastic guitar, great jazz tones. Unfortunately it has a thick, fat, rounded neck which I cant play. I keep it because it's just too pretty to let go.

Austin from Trilogy is a honest guitar expert, I have watched his show for 6 years and his reviews always tell the whole story.
Hes probably the most honest guy on the internet....
@@overtonesnteatime198 He has angel wings and featherings my brother, so legend tells.
@Zachary Hale Yeah sometimes but he is entertaining, thanks for the insight.
Those pinched bends! Greg is one of the most underrated players out there today.
I bought a 2010 Les Paul Florentine from Trogly and it’s amazing 😉!
I would totally rock another 👍.
I love the Korina one.......the black plastics and binding is ace, and the finish checking on the headstock is nice natural relicing.
We all have GAS. Why do you think we watch these videos each day. 😁
@LITTLE HORN might as well. You will be much happier
WARNING ! G.A.S......
The more you have the more you have to have !
.....AND IT NEVER ENDS !
I prefer Carter Vintage, but otherwise I know exactly what you mean.
Im pretty early... but who fakes a Florentine? Just an odd model to fake.
Bingo
wouldn't that make it the perfect model to fake then ? (not saying trog sells fakes tho , just an interesting thought as its so unexpected that would make it the perfect model to do a fake of lol)
@@-CLASSIFIED- you bring a good point
@@-CLASSIFIED- but at the same time wouldn't it be easier for Gibson to win a lawsuit against a more specific model rather than a standard LP or 335 etc.?
Yeah i gotta kit I built from Pango for 200$ but it is not my Les paul. But it is pretty close same neck dimension, but they are a little sloppy on the headstock about 1.5mm off from one side to the other. I wish I could afford A real one. Those hollow body single cut, sorta Like Alex Lifeson had in the 80's they had those on sale back in '14 or so.
I wish you would have shared the accusing party's response! You did a great job presenting your evidence without condescension!!
Man, I gotta say When they whip out the Koch You know it's a player.
@GROOVE ECHO He actually has a Koch amp called "The Greg"
www.koch-amps.com/guitar_combo_thegreg.html
Tasty licks!
I love playing Gibsons but can't afford oneand I love watching your channel for when I can.
I really enjoy, The Trogly's great and detailed and honest videos. take care
With things like Gibson or Fender you pay for the brand mostly, go for a builder luthier, an average one would build the same half the price
@@sid5156 My first guitar was a Les Paul copy, I'll get one eventually. They have a special tone, but I do intend to build one
Been watching and buying from Austin since the long long ago carpet video days. Stand up dude, oozes integrity. It would be quite the rope-a-dope to teach people so much about guitars while selling fake ones.
I’d rock it all day - the wine color was my fav in the 70z-80z.
YES I would ROCK the Korina Florentine! Very nice indeed! Keep your gold and sparkle tops and GIMMIE THE WOOD GRAIN!
I'd rock a Florentine during quarenteen.
My dude.
Bought my florentine in ‘94! Still my #1 guitar.
You are a standup guy Austin! I would be honoured to buy a guitar from you in the future. Thanks for the great reviews man. :)
I love your reviews so much. Thanks for all the work you have been putting through out the years. ❤️
Good that you defend your reputation with this video! And yes, I'd rock it, especially after seeing Mr. Koch rip away on one!!
Hey
You are as true as it gets. And it’s not hard to figure out about you. I would buy from you any day of the week. ✅
The Les Paul Florentine at 10:02 is stunningly beautiful !!!
That Caribbean Blue Florentine Supreme has been in Reverb for ages... Atleast 2 years now. And the price has gone up and down like a rocking chair. I think seller at most asked around 7000 ,- euros of it.
Your reputation should stand on it's own, bummer you've been accused, but as always, you handle it w kindness and grace!
I love the looks of the natural one on this Reverb page. It's one of my fave Smith the gold one you mentioned. I'd definitely rock it !
I totally would rock one. that tone is lovely.
I bought the blue sparkle Florentine from the Guitar Hanger 8 months ago. Absolutely like new. The owner plays in the Alice Cooper Band. Good guy to buy from.
That Greg Koch is a monster on a guitar 😄
Those squeals! Like no one else.
That thing was ferocious. How is it possible that I'd never seen one of these? I do believe I'm in love. Pleeeease don't tell my Telecaster.
Cheers!
🖖 & 🤘
Max Power
Thank’s
You are the most trusted guitar resources.
I would totally rock a Florentine, except for the fact that I'm a bassist. That being said, two out of three of my current basses are semi-hollow bodies with f-holes. I love the look of that style
I’d rock that gold or blue sparkle one!
A fake Florentine? Naw.
If a fake flory is that well made I’d buy one
Who would even go through all that to make a fake smh
Doesn't sound realistic but idk maybe. Sounds a little out of the realm of things
Oh man, I would Rock that example. That could Jazz as well, in the right hands.
That Korina florentine is unreal. Bet it has a super warm tone.
Oh I've been to the Guitar Hanger before! Tiny little high-end shop in a residential area. They had a bunch of rare limited run guitars and amps, so doesn't surprise me that they'd have those Florintenes.
I would for sure rock it especially the Korina top 1, it seems it would be fun to play some cool ass bluesy jazz on that guitar!!!
Jeeeeeeze, Greg Koch just never fails to raise the hair on my arms. 😳🤯
What happened with the project guitars? You had a Red Jimmy Page Deluxe and others too
I would definitely rock a Florentine. The p90, blue sparkle, or the quilt top.
That looks like a more interesting variation than most. Hollow bodies always sound full.
9:24 Greg Koch... jeez... this guy is beyond amazing
didn't expect to see you talk about a guitar form guitar hanger, they're only a couple minutes away from me, super cool store
Yeah I know you are an honest guy the binding on That guitar should’ve yellow by now
I would rock either of those blues.
Wow this one is beautiful. I know a guy that had a couple of those. Before he passed away. His wife has them now.
I love the Les Paul with florentine cutaway.
As they say in the military....confidence is HIGH in Trogly.
I’m with you , the p90’s did it for me👍🎵✌️
LOL I remember that guitar and thinking I would love to purchase it.
Florentines are beautiful. Would definitely rock!
JAMES SCOTT NICHOLSON, ONTARIO, CANADA 🇨🇦 WE ALL KNOW YOU’RE A VERY RESPECTABLE GUY,SO I WILL APOLOGIZE FOR THE IGNORANCE OF A CUSTOMER NOT KNOWING HIS STUFF.WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU DO,AND THANX FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE. TOP LEFT BROTHER
Oh man. Someone ACTUALLY had the galls to say Austin sold them a fake Gibson. Hahaha. WTF.
"Galls". I like it. It's a mashup of Gall and Balls.
I remember the advertising for those guitars. I love Les Paul's and really wanted one with f holes. A bit spendy for me then!.
We have a very nice Build a burst 59 re finished at Simms custom shop that we purchased from Greece it is delightful .
I have the rarest of the rare LP Florentines. The top is so quilted, it looks like the slime on Ghostbusters. I’ll send you a picture
and the follow up from the shop holding it on consgnment is.. "oh its fake, but we'll buy it off you for peanuts" probably followed by it appearing elswhere at full price
Ive had that problem with my hardrock flying V with flames on blue its a limited edition it's a 1999 the problem is nobody's seen them much there was only 25 made! Ive even open her up and all Gibson all outside checked out! Even called Gibson an all good there!
Mr. Koch is an insane guitarist
Guitar Hanger's owner used to own the Les Paul Custom Mick Ronson used with David Bowie.
OOOh yes The Ronson Bowie Guitar, Nice.
What a cool guitar! Never seen one, but I sure would love to get my hands on one!
