People shit on guitars for NOT being a reputable brand and whatnot. Even hate inside of fanboy communities. This fender isn't as good as that fender and so on. People are just toxic.
Tribalism, sega vs nintendo, cowboys vs 49ers, people locked in a room with commonalities only focus on whats diffrent. I am a fan of both gibson and fender, but so fiscally challenged i have an epi that i love deeply ☺ watching this show is always like living vicariously thru it for possessions ill never have but can experience anyways.

I’m from Rochester NY, and a good friend of mine bought one from the House of Guitars back in ‘84, and he still has it. I could never wrap my head around an Explorer headstock on a Les Paul body!

I was in a band with a guy who had an Aldo Nova LP. I dont remember the body exactly, it seemed like a regular sunburst body. The story he told me at the time (late 80's) was it was made in Kalamazoo right before it closed. He said they had extra Explorer necks laying around and LP bodies and just slapped them together and called it a day. Don't know how true that is.

Crazy! Aldo Nova was my first concert! Actually it was Joan Jett, he was direct support, and I was 10 or 11. But Aldo Nova seems like such an obscure name, I would have never heard of him if not for that concert. Awesome guitar though. Wish my childhood memory was good enough to remember what guitar he played.
Trogly, it is incredible how much history or drama can be attached to an instrument. You provide us with all the details and add a touch of humor. I really envy your job. Getting to play some of the rarest and most interesting guitars in the world. Keep up the good work.

Certainly some nice presents showed up at your place. As a fairly seasoned guitar player, the past 45 years, I have had probably 50 guitars. Lost 14 of them in a break in at my home while I was in Haiti back in 2014. Part of the loss was three very nice Fenders, 74 Strat, natural with black face and white knobs. Very rare. Two Fender Basses, Precision and Jazz, both were 60s. Others were vintage. So, starting from scratch, I am back to quite the studio again. Since I have a full set up here at the house for up to 20 musicians to plug and play, it works out pretty good. Amps, guitars, pianos, other keyboards and percussion. When you talk about a cool opening, I helped my good friend and guitar collector since the 60s with his health issues couple of years ago. I didn't want to be paid, it was all friendship. But, he gave me a very cool Gator Guitar Case..... What was inside blew me away. A 1969 SJ-200 Gibson that had never been played!!! I know, WTF! Right? I play that almost everyday now. Anyway, love the Les Paul you popped. Both of them, actually. I do know someone who knows Rick. Hmmmm
I just played a Dark Night in Guitar Center a couple days ago, it was a very nice, sleek and smooth guitar, pickups are great, action was a little bit to high for me, but then again i love my strings basically touching the fretboard, it was amazing, and i highly recommend it! I ended up walking out with it!
This guitar was stolen from me. Aldo Nova can confirm this fact. I hope you take the time to confirm what I say, and as long as you don't sell this guitar, we don't need to panic. I did some guitar work for Aldo. He also used my music studio sometimes. If he doesn't remember my name, just remind him I am Elvis Presley's son. He will remember me. I also did some guitar work on Steve Howe's Les Paul. Steve used to hang out and record in my studio. The band, Asia was formed in my studio by musicians who were just hanging out. @Barry Goldwater mine was not perfect, but it had been in the store for a little while before I got it. The pickup heights were close but did definitely need adjusting to some degree with my rig. The playability and setup on mine were pretty close to what I'd want, the only thing I had to dial in was the nut; some of the slots were not quite the right height for my playing style.
Trog you out did yourself on this one. I researched the Alvo-Nova Gibson never saw one in person. I new Rick Neilson pretty much had the exclusive on these. I think if any guitar player collectors that had the money would jump at the chance. It’s like finding a unicorn. I would buy one today if I found one. He actually has a video up on his channel of him and his dad takin it for a spin. Def worth watching! I am pretty sure u are familiar with Lucas Fowler, he has a video in his dads basement cataloging his father's guitar collection and u will find that beast within that video!

Chevron flame is the V pattern figuring, whereas crotch flame is a * pattern where the flame goes out in all directions. Apparently, it's due to the wood being cut where a branch is. Makes for a very nice figured top. I have one on one of my guitars.
I really gotta say, for epiphone being the “cheap version of Gibson” I would say that they are really good guitars, and this sg, it’s soooooo stunningly beautiful

Hutch he’s mistaken for string tension, a 3+3 is ‘straighter’ than a banana/Jackson style headstock. A strat style headstock is the only thing ‘straighter’. As far as tension goes, its just based on preference. I like it a little looser on the bottom myself but either way is fine. The only real benefit I see with this headstock is that you won’t snap it off if you drop it. I see others talking about tuning stability but I completely disagree.
Lovely guitars there. That P90 59 in particular. The explorer headstock Leslie is rad. Totally spun m out when you moved the camera to reveal it. I read about them a few years back. Rare as hens teeth as you say. Definitely a Rick Neilson vibe.
I would love to have that SG, I've been playing a Samick SG that I got when i was 13. I've had it for 2 years now. I've been playing live and I'm currently playing in a band and playing gigs. I think that guitar would do me well and I would love to play it live. I've also been wanting a guitar with P90s and if I don't win I'm just gonna put some in a first act.

Chevron flame is the V pattern figuring, whereas crotch flame is a * pattern where the flame goes out in all directions. Apparently, it's due to the wood being cut where a branch is. Makes for a very nice figured top. I have one on one of my guitars.

I really gotta say, for epiphone being the “cheap version of Gibson” I would say that they are really good guitars, and this sg, it’s soooooo stunningly beautiful
I gig regularly, with three epiphone's. To solid body electric Les Paul's and a great all solid wood acoustic.
216trixie the only reason I sold mine some years back. Was cause I bought a second Gibson, and my parents wouldn’t allow me to how that more then 3 guitars at the time.
Which is a shame, cause I ended up selling that guitar again a year later.

Hutch he’s mistaken for string tension, a 3+3 is ‘straighter’ than a banana/Jackson style headstock. A strat style headstock is the only thing ‘straighter’. As far as tension goes, its just based on preference. I like it a little looser on the bottom myself but either way is fine. The only real benefit I see with this headstock is that you won’t snap it off if you drop it.
I see others talking about tuning stability but I completely disagree.
Lovely guitars there. That P90 59 in particular. The explorer headstock Leslie is rad. Totally spun m out when you moved the camera to reveal it. I read about them a few years back. Rare as hens teeth as you say. Definitely a Rick Neilson vibe.

I would love to have that SG, I've been playing a Samick SG that I got when i was 13. I've had it for 2 years now. I've been playing live and I'm currently playing in a band and playing gigs. I think that guitar would do me well and I would love to play it live. I've also been wanting a guitar with P90s and if I don't win I'm just gonna put some in a first act.

Ehh looks just like the other millions of les Paul’s but with an ugly ass headstock.
It's not about the look. It will stay in tune better and the explorer headstock is way less likely to snap off if knocked over

Hey Brother, I love me some Trogley’s and want to continue to see you play... That being said, I used a box knife like you have there and cut the pad on my ring finger to the bone and then crushed the tip of the middle finger next to it... Yes, alas, I was an idiot. It took 2 seconds with the box knife and 10 years later I’m playing and collecting again but lost a decade due to that box opening enthusiasm! HAHAHA! We love you dude and you are the best.
