    I have a z19dth in my vectra and I have cleaned the EGR, MAP and MAF every year, and never have an engine code or fault 😀 good advice and great video

      Have been in the repairs since 1995...and still I am surprised from the new "cars", where soon only pistons will be made from metal...
      Have an hobby and sickness for the good old Opels... Have 3 now...c16nz, z16se, and x16xel...
      Can I use block c18ne with head c16nz?
      What do you think.
      I would like to have my own channel with all the engines repaired - from lawn mowers, two stroke motorcycles and old carburetor cars...
      Your way to show the stuff and explanations at all gives me to know that I can learn a lot from you.

      Good engine the Z16SE and the catalysts are worth a fortune these days.
      I’m honestly not sure, don’t tend to strip many engines theses days, so busy with regular maintenance jobs that make far better money than big strip down jobs

    God damnit! You really saved me a lot of work and money!!! Had the same problem, at about 3500/4000 U/min accelarting up to 120 km/h in 3rd/4th gear when driving the autobahn the car changed to error P2279-5b, and bad starting (about 5-6 turns) in mornings.
    Cleaned and the car runs great again!
    I was thinking about the pipes, turbos and so on.
    By the way, EGR is disabled ;)

    I have P2279 and renewed the EGR valve twice with new peirburgh units still the same.
    Checked the map sensor not clean but not blocked at all. Checked the Hoses no leaks.
    Going to smoke test next.

      Check the intercooler and turbo vanes ain’t sticking.
      For what it costs blank the EGR off and get it mapped out … get a stage 1 while your on will be like a different car

      @@CarAddictGarageNE Already blanked it off but light stays on for months then suddenly goes off for a week or two. Went on a long run the other week I got an avarage of 55.3 mpg. So not too bad .

      But have you had the EGR mapped out ?
      As if you have blanked it and not had it mapped out it will keep throwing the EML/ Limp mode

    Had an EGR malfunction P0400 engine light but car drove normal
    Cleaned the EGR, engine light cleared, 2000kms later engine light came bk with P2279 and severely limped the car
    You were spot on brand new EGR assembly and a map sensor clean fixed it. Thnx mate

      Best way is to get stage 1 remap and while on get the EGR mapped out and blank it off, will be like a different car and far more reliable and more efficient/ more power

      While cleaning probs best to as blanking plate with 12mm hole, keeps them clean for longer and avoids an EML

    Common annoying issue 😆
    I've cleaned Egr valve, had a crack on air intake pipe so changed that and its still coming back to haunt me. Noticed it only ever happens when I put the car into sport mode. Need to stop doing that 😆

      Literally everything you said, jerky, turns over a while and blasts smoke out. Also noticed sometimes if I speed up quickly theres a little whistle then some black crap pumps out the exhaust lol

      Have a good check around all the boost pipes very difficult to spot pin hole in a rubber pipe.
      EGR could be jamming up very common fault, just replace it and blank it off

      @Car Addict Garage North East Yeh I bought the car off my mate about 2 years ago for peanuts when my Mazda died on me. To be fair other than the light coming on every few months its not been bad at all. I've also had the common horn issue with it aswell when it just doesn't work. Pain in the ass come mot time as some garages tried charging me the full bang for a replacement. Last year I wiggled the steering wheel around and it worked for about 3 days got me through the mot. This year the guy at the garage that did the mot had a play around with it and got it to work but now when I press it the horn turns the volume down on the stereo 😆 Good times

      Yes it’s the CIM module on the steering column, very common fault unfortunately bar spending big it’s not worth it.
      Best way is wire in a separate button for the horn on the dash.
      What you will find horn work in connection to headlight been on or off

    I have the same engine and I have a problem with an oil leak. I thought it had something to do with the sump gasket or oil level sensors but discovered that the oil is dripping all the way down from the air intake pipe thay connects to the throttle body and from the pipe that comes out diagonally from the corner of the valve cover towards the throttle body. The turbo was refurbished two 30k km ago so I think it would be too early for the turbo seals to go out. Could it the breather system?

      When the turbo failed loads of oil will have been dumped into the charge / intercooled system, this should have been drained off by flushing out the intercooler.

      Could be the PCV valve or the ventilation system of the engine. Dirty air filter could give also some oil in the intake from the turbine, but mainly oil is coming from turbine and the oil separator where gasses inside the engine must be separated from the oil mist...
      Use Castrol, or "liqui molly".

      Could also be the vaporiser heater/injector where the oil vapor enters the intake just before the turbo, little black unit won’t a plug on near the turbo pushed into the pipe

    Me again, sorry just ad an idea.......🤔🤔🤔
    How about an in depth or even a basic overview on how to use some of the features on a scan tool, in your case Launch is it I think u use?
    But whichever make/model they all av the majority of the same code reading capabilities, deleting fault codes etc etc. I know you can get ones which are bi directional etc , but just a basic guide for ya viewers I think would be watchable 👀👀 & helpful
    I've got a Topdon Phoenix Plus & an icarsoft CR PRO both very different scan tools, but to be fair the icarsoft covers many of the basic features that the Topdon does & that one was 5 x the price & is bi directional.
    Anyway Dan, just an idea for a video/vlog to go as deep as you think would be as helpful to ya subscribers as you'd like to go.
    If u think it's a cr#p idea, no worries at all.

      That TopDon stuff looks really good I will say fancy buying some of the equipment looks top notch for what you pay.

      My Topdon Phoenix Plus cost me £1,200 but that's just to a Joe Public bod like me, I don't know if you could get it trade or whatever as a business & claim ya VAT back etc.
      But I just thought ya subscribers might find the scan tool demo's & basics handy.
      I DEFINITELY don't know how to use all the Topdon Phoenix Plus features, as it includes things like reprogramming ECU's and that's way over my head.
      Anyway mate, keep up the quality video's.

      Yeah I would like to trial some of that TopDon stuff it seams really good and I hear very good reports.
      I did some programming on VCDS on my Altea, activated the digital speedo, needle sweep, all sorts of stuff, was going to record it but was unsure if people would get bored of it.
      Will definitely give it a go 👍🏼

    Hi, my vectra c takes long to start in the morning only and smoke. Got spanner/car light which disappears after 3 minutes of driving. Happens all morning only long crank. Thanks

      Few things on these can cause it, 1) faulty ECT sensor most common, 2) usually the 8V Z19DT engines suffer with glow plugs 3) EGR sticking

      You could clean the MAP sensor and buy £4 blanking plate for EGR and have it mapped out plus a stage one around £300 ish

    I have the same problem and the same error, i have changed the egr valve with another one from an old car, do you think there is a chance that the egr from the other card had the same problem? Because my problem is not fixed, my car works fine when the water is under 75 celsius, but when it warms up is entering limp mode and coming out from limp mode when i accelerate and i let the car on engine brake and drops from 3000 rpm to 2200 enters limp then i press the gas pedal like 3 times and it’s fine

      Coolant temperature sensors are big issues on these, wouldn’t necessarily cause this fault but they are cheap enough worth changing.
      I would never fit used parts unless I know indefinitely they are in good working order, otherwise you’re putting your self into a circle of doom.
      Also check the MAP sensor on the intake manifold clean

    Hey man, just watched your video as I have a P2279-11 (can be deleted but comes back after about a weeks time).
    My EGR is both blocked off and deleted via remap. I’ve checked the MAP, MAF, vacuum solenoid and as much vacuum hose that I could see, but maybe not all.
    Do you have any ideas on where to look?

      You could be looking boost via big boost pipe going to and from intercooler, or even the intercooler it’s self.
      Also check MAP sensor is fully cleaned out of carbon

      I think I’ve sorted it now though, turns out it was a faulty vacuum solenoid. I think the UEC got incorrect measurements when under load, giving the fault code.
      Runs like new now. 👌😄

      Yeah he actually mean the definition of the code an air leak/ boost leak…. Where it throws people is when it’s the EGR at fault and they are looking around for boost leaks.
      Needs smoke tested, will probably be intercooler or pipe leaking

    J'ai le même code defaut P2279 fuite d'air admission j'ai roulé puis d'un coup le moteur à fait un bruit de claquement avec une énorme fumer bleue et pas de puissance impossible de rouler car le moteur forcé beaucoup pour avancé j'ai changé une durite qui était percé nettoyé la vanne egr et capteur d'admission depuis elle a toutes la puissance mais j'ai toujours le même code defaut P2279 et elle fume quand le voyant moteur s'allume bizarre cette histoire je n'arrive pas à savoir d'où vient le problème au contrôle technique elle n'est pas passé car elle fume beaucoup

      What didn’t work?
      This fault code is caused by blocked EGR or faulty/failed EGR unit.

      Yes because your EGR will be faulty…. Assuming you have checked the basics of actual boost leaks on pipes and intercooler.
