P2279-5B Vauxhall / Opel 1.9 CDTi intake air system leak

- we come to look at this Vauxhall Zafira B
engine light was illuminated and power was severely reduced.
when accelerator was let go the engine would struggle to idle and was shaking.
intake system leak was the code from the diagnostic machine but we could not find any.
stuck EGR Valve can also cause this code we went with a carbon clean and also cleaned the DPF
power was restored and fault did not return
I’ve got the vectra 150 diesel and keep getting error code for turbo overboost and the car was running like a bag of 💩 it’s been in the garage 8 times over the last 6 weeks and still got the same issue, the mechanics conclusion is the turbo is shot. Today I’ve bought this dpf cleaner and sprayed it into the air intake as per your video and it run like a dream. Also my consumption as gone from 33.6 to 55.3. Fantastic product and great information on the video. Keep up the good work. Thankyou for saving me the cost of a new turbo 👍
Hi, just had the same on my Saab 93, limited performance kept coming up more and more regular until it was always on. I did your procedure and reset the the code and went for a drive guess what? 1 mile and its back but with no eml so decided to park it for the day as was getting dark, next morning waiting for wifey to lock up started the car which was quite difficult and sat it at 4500rpm (i know it was still cold) but you should have seen the smoke screen out the back, went to town and experienced a lumpy tick over and still limited performance on engine check so went for a burn and voila no more limited performance or eml, car goes like a flying machine, never known it drive so well so thanks for the video but to other people dont expect instant results, i think it took all night for the cleaner to soak in hence the smoke screen,
Got my Vetech DPF from GSF car parts in black container
ps we had this problem when we first bought the car and the dealer replaced the egr valve and all went well for 12-14 months but the wife does very short trips and the engine never gets hot so i think this was the culprit. Kind Regards Stephen Mason
Hey Stephen thanks for the detailed info, how is the car running now? Are you having to do this on a regular due to your wife's driving conditions? Or does it even help with that
Always usually the egr valve with that code on the 150 engines (z19dth) astra, zafira and vectra use it on the vauxhall/opel. Pop it off pour any fluid into one of the chambers and it will leak hence why it's dumping its pressure from the intake. Carbon causes it so good job carbon clean helps with this problem as with dpf 👍

@@paramvirrathore3424 most likely egr valve if it feels like your boost is gone or cutting in or out.. But it's always good practice to check for boost leaks too.. If u have a boost leak you will see plooms of black smoke when you horse the car on
@@paramvirrathore3424 Swirl flaps problem. Look at the top of intake manifold , just behind glow plugs. If it's covered in oil and carbon it mean's there's a boost leak there.
After you make this process with DPF cleaner, you should change oil, in my GTC the oil level has risen by half, after a whole night the engine is not able to start
Thanks for great video! I have same problem on my Vauxhall Astra 1.9 150 b/h Twin top. Brake cleaner didn't show any leaks. Next week I'm going to try DPF cleaner. Ordered in local shop as they didn't have in stock. I have showed your video in the shop and they were very surprised. They asked for feedback after I have done cleaning. Hi. Cleaning through the air intake didn't help. I have changed EGR valve, as my was very dirty and I couldn't clean it. Bought new from eurocarparts for £24. Also I have cleaned MAP sensor which was also very dirty. Finally I found real problem. It has air leak from manifold rubber seals where 4 flaps rotate on metal rod. Ordered repair kit £28 from China.

Hi @O’Rileys Autos, I have a 59 Zafira 1.9 auto and the engine noise is exactly the same. (No codes) and the fuel consumption isn’t great. Did you get to the bottom of the loud engine and rattle. Thanks

I had last year 2023 februar same problem changed the egr it worked till now 2024 July but now the same error code came out? What do you think whats the issue
had this code my my zafira last 3 years , new dpf new egr new manifold ,boost pipes, boost sensor fully stripped and cleaned intake only left with turbo vanes being the fault now in my head…. vauxhall don’t even know what this code relates to it’s just a generic code ive been looking into some of that REVIVE cleaner as i really don’t want to take the turbo off as all mine does is when i slow down or come to a stop now and again that code activates and no boost until 5/6 seconds later and cars back to normal
If you check out our other videos we have cured a few vehicles using Revive turbo cleaner 👍🏻

I’’m not entirely sure but these are the problems on my 1.9 astra gtc, I’m gonna recommend rhis method to my mechanic and hope for the best!

@@evieemaya88 Told my mechanic, said he wouldn’t do this to his car.. didn’t tell me why. After a while I changed the whole turbo, this was last year. This year a pipe or something blew again on the new turbo, so I am there where I started. Full throttle, not moving forward, also smokes like hell sometimes, other times nothing. I am clueless, just waiting when he gives up so I can buy a bike to ride it everywhere… sick of old cars
@@ujikaloerv4 sorry to hear your having troubles, I mean one way you could look at it is, if you are "waiting for it to give up" why not try this anyway? O'rileys autos has done this a few times in older videos and surely if it caused major damage they would be flooded with customer fault bills.

May be a brake booster leak if the engine is not turbocharged.
Hey up chap really liked the video seems like am having the same problem just a question would you be able feel a difference after the clean with out wiping off the codes or do you need to delete the codes to be able to feel the difference cheers chap
It depends on if the engine light is permanently illuminated and if it's currently in Limp Mode. Permanent limp mode or engine light would need clearing by diagnostic tool
@@ORileysAutoshi there can you please help.......I have a Skoda superb and when I hit the exelerator there is a hissing from it and when I leave the throttle off there is like a fluttering. There is no lights on the dash and no rough idea if you could please she's some light would be great as I have had this problem for so long
Hi, I got my Vectra lost power. Error code shows intake air system leak. Gave to a local garrage and they changed new EGR valve. The problem came again while on road and broke down in middle of road as it cant climb steep roads. Can you advise me to fix it. Where can I take it to.
I have a zafira 1.9cdti and I think the engine is full of soot. It was used a lot for short journeys then left static for a long time. Now I have smoke and poor performance. I feel like I want to copy you O'Rileys and spray vetech dpf cleaner down the air intake! Can't do any harm. Can it???
It says to remove the dpf and soak!

I've done this plenty of times before although I did this once on a 1.9 cdti and the engine ran away but thankfully it stalled out before it ruined the engine, close call! Nice video
Hydrolock your engine if too much is sprayed at once

Yes. This is the main cause for this problem.
