    This is why I love the Miami Dice segment. Tom had a vastly different analysis of the game, and Sam and Zee expanded upon their reasoning as to why they disagreed, giving a lot of different views for a bunch of different players who may or may not want the game. Great review, great video

      Agreed! I'm with Tom on this one, but it's awesome to have other points of view expressed!

    A couple of suggestions for Sam’s tutorials:
    1) 06:30 04:15 07:10 Write a script of the points you want to make. He uses “things” too much. This will also help with having to correct rules/terms during filming and in the edit.
    2) 05:35 07:25 Check the camera framing. He is referring to objects we can’t see.
    3) 03:50 04:54 Setup a specific situation instead of rolling dice and playing through multiple turns. He can save time and be more clear by giving us an example.
    4) 05:40 Watch the edit one last time before uploading.

      Jon Mendenhall Jon Mendenhall I find his overview / explanation unwatchable. He has value to the DT and his perspective on gaming is interesting. I just think the game explanation area of DT is best left to Zee and Tom.

      @@JhoffDJ. I agree. As a whole, I think the Dice Tower could use more scripting/formatting when they present games. Sometimes the objective isn't even clearly stated. Plus scripting would reduce their verbal crutches which are used in almost every video: "So on and so forth," "As the game goes by," etc.
      I had an interesting discussion with some friends at a game convention regarding the Dice Tower and why it remains a media leader in the industry. Their videos pale in comparison to other channels, both technically and professionally. We surmised that it's because a) they were doing it first and b) they have likable personalities that we've become familiar with.

    • @gordachi
      @gordachi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@caleyroark Actually, I disagree. I prefer the Dice Tower because there is less scripting than other channels. I dislike scripted content in general, it comes across as less personal. Less-scripted content generally yields a more conversational tone, and these guys do it well. In fact, to your b-point, I would say that most other channels I don't even know what their personalities are.

    I think the box art is reminiscent of the movie Ratatouille. The game seems to be too lightweight for me, but I do like the theme.

    A quick technical point regarding the probabilities of getting each space, while the gang is correct that each space is equally likely to be rolled on the die it might be important to remember that the fliers can only be used to shift the die one space in an orthogonal direction. That means that, when you take the fliers into account, the 5 space is the most likely to be used (since it has 4 neighbors), then the 2, 4, 6, and 8 spaces (with 3 neighbors each), and lastly the least likely spaces are the 1, 3, 7 and 9 spaces (only 2 neighbors each).
    The game looks like decent quick roll-and-act type game similar to Machi Koro and Space Base. (The sliding prices of the stalls reminded me a little of Suburbia's purchasing system as well.) I've been on a That's So Clever kick on my ipad recently so this game has kind of piqued my interest as well.

    The empty space in the box leaves plenty of room for expansions.

    I find it weird that so many cards seem to reward your food court for having similar food stands instead of a diverse set. Why would I go to a food court with nothing but Japanese food?

    • @xzgun100
      @xzgun100 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ever heard of food festival with one type of food only? Like American BBQ or Chinese Night Market. Very popular.

    • @Merlandese
      @Merlandese ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xzgun100 Your comment dismisses the theme. Food courts, as in "food courts," as anyone who has been to a food court knows, are not the same as, like, festivals that celebrate a specific food culture. And the description of the game supports my interpretation of that. So yes, I have heard of food festivals, and food courts are, inherently, not the same thing.

    There are some of comparisons to Space Base here. I find Space Base really fiddly with tucking cards under each other and Space Base has a lot of tiny text on cards which really slows the game down.

  • @bricelory9534
    @bricelory9534 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually disagree with Tom about the one D10... I agree with Zee about it being a helpful turn reminder. I have found that very helpful in similar games...especially for as light as this is, non-gamers are prone especially to not remembering exactly whose turn it is as they are not used to upkeep in games.

    Hm. I already have Machi Koro and the gameplay seems just similar enough that I don't see a need to try this one out too. If I didn't already have it then maybe I'd compare the two and figure out which one I liked better, but I can't just keep buying games, so I'll pass on Foodies. Fun artwork and presentation though.

    What happens if someone rolls a 0?
    What happens if there is no space left for a new stall? Do you replace/cover an existing one or you are done buying?

    • @bricelory9534
      @bricelory9534 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly, a 0 means they get to choose a number.
      And yes, you can replace any stall, again, if I recall correctly. And I think it is free to do so.

    What is the criteria to choose a game for the Miami dice review?

  • @PandaOfElastic
    @PandaOfElastic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I honestly don't see why Sam and Zee think Space Base is significantly more complicated than this. There's more, yes, but not that much more. I've never had an issue teaching Space Base to anyone (even casual players who don't really game). It looks like a complicated game because of all the components, but it's not. The only part I seem to have questions about is in regards to charge counter-related powers.

    • @steveody978

      Straight math term talking about the probability of something to occur. If you rolled 2 6-sided dice the probability of rolling a 7 is 16.7% while the probability of rolling a number closer to the edges (2 or 12) is much lower at 2.8%. As you get closer to 7 from either side you get a higher percentage and the graph sort of looks like a bell! I teach math so hopefully that helps, couldn't turn down a teachable moment! First day of school is tomorrow and we are already rollin'!!!!

    Replacing dice with a deck of cards that go through 1 to 9, maybe even a this turn you choose card would benefit the game I think. All the numbers are equally likely to be "rolled" and you can plan ahead by putting cards in spaces that haven't been rolled yet. You could also put 2 copies or 3 copies of each card to create more variance.
