17:04 chatting about the "you win" card that Sam agrees he's never seen.......i think he has....its on the table in front of him during his explanation.... lol
It has 2 expansions now the first adds a handful of new mechanics the second basically just let’s you play with 7 players and gives you sleeves for all the cards. Highly recommend the first one the second I was a little more on the fence on but I do love sleeving my cards to make them last
I have no idea how people don’t like Machi Koro. I have the “Bright Lights Big City” edition or whatever it’s called. I love the progression of it, going from one die and small income to two dice and exponentially more (if you’ve built your engine right) and that race to 30 coins to pretty much guarantee victory. It goes pretty quick for us. This game sounds fun, but I think I’ll pass in lieu of games that will fill other niches for us.
Very late comment but I had horrible experiences. Played it twice with six and it lasted 1.5 hours. Money kept going back and forth with the red cards. It lasted way too long for what it should be.
I absolutely cannot stand Machi Koro......and I started out really enjoying it.... so sad that I now don't like it. Now I'm excited to play this! Thanks for the review!
Does look like a great version of this type of game. And the Catan wcample was spot on. Waiting to see if you got resources was the highlight of that game. Haven't played Machi Koro, but this seems really slick.
Grigoris Konidaris The Seal of Excellence is based on the numeric rating. Whether or not the game is on Miami Dice, it'll get the seal when the Dice Tower rates it numerically. You can see the ratings on their website.
Thanks MGK. Anyways was the search for games button always bright red? My eyes never gravitated towards the search function before and now it has and I've used it. It works well, maybe they upgraded there website as it seems it's faster too!!
While its good to know the seals/ratings are on their website, it would still be helpful to have the seals towards the end of the MIAMI DICE videos. Not as many people visit the website as frequently as perhaps the TH-cam channel.
This is at least the third video that I've seen that says the "First" to 40 wins. Not correct. The first to forty triggers end game, but does not necessarily win. If it was simply a race to forty the first player card would serve no purpose. I think because the rule book is written so poorly that people are skimming to get the gist but not reading carefully.
To be fair, Sam didn't out right said "First to 40 wins", however I must admit his words do feel like he is saying that, but it might be a miss on his part.
Sorry for the confusion! We did play correctly. Incidentally, I've yet to play the game where the person first to 40 did NOT win. Sure, someone else can pass them, but it's unlikely.
I'm of the minority opinion that a perceptive reviewer can have a very good impression of a game after 1 or 2 plays. You don't need as many plays as many think if you insightful.
Do you guys think this game has much longevity? Since its all based on rolls, which I'm not bashing, wouldn't the game feel pretty similar most of the time? Buy cool cards, hope you can activate them.
While the dice rolling will always be there, I didn’t have a problem with the replay value. Plus, it plays really quick. A 2 player game can last about 30 minutes.
Why are most space games unforgivably ugly? There are a few pretty ones, but take Terraforming mars for example, I know it to be a good game, I want to play it again, but I don't think I can handle looking at it for ~2 hours.
The art work is soooo boring on this game. And the theme is completely tacked on. They also should have changed the number on white in the upper right of the cards to an icon that really looks like a die or dice 'cuz every playthrough I've watched has people misreading where some cards go.
There's no real long term depth to this game. It's just an alternative Machi Koro while looking visually worse. I can see having fun once or twice, but then to the sale pile it would go.
Sam is talking about the game while all the action happens in a 3 x 3 inch portion of a huge table. On my phone this translates to 4 pixels on my phone. Next time, just zoom in with the camera. I didn't get anything out of the rules explanation.
I have to admit. the look of the game turns me off. moreso the cards than the box. the graphic design and the rainbow gradients are a mess on the table.
The gameplay looks interesting. BUT ... I am not a fan of the art direction. At all. Not even a little. For a similar experience, I'd rather bring Valeria: Card Kingdoms to the table.
I need to add ... With card sleeves being such a lucrative sideline to the gaming industry it's just inexcusable to make cards of such a bizarre size. Unless, of course, you're going to produce them for your game and sell them. Which the makers of Space Base did not.
Great game but with one of the worst rules books of the year... They took 20 pages to explain a game that could have been explained in 4 pages... Not to mention the english mistakes...
Machi Koro went over like a lead balloon with us. It's gotta be more than just a "Machi Koro killer" to be of interest in my group. And the artwork is as Zee says, "generic." Looks like bad 1980s generic space art, completely forgettable.
Just played this and my local game meetup last week and I can confirm this is a Machi Koro killer. I have MK and the expansion and I prefer Space Base.
I'd take Sam's explanation over Lance from Undeadviking, boy is that guy long-winded. When it comes to long board game reviews my favorite though is Joel Eddy from Drive-Thru Reviews, the pacing just feels faster.
Personally though I would like to see videos of Sam painting miniatures. I enjoy the channels Watch It Paint and King Of Average they do an excellent job of painting mini's makes me want to get into the hobby. I just wish there was TH-camrs using cheaper paints to see how good of a result you can get with a more inexpensive product like Vallejo. Most use Citadel followed by Army Painter, and then probably Reaper.
I much prefer single reviewers giving a game overview and review of new games - too much silly chat when all three are together. I love the top 10s and other set-tos with all three - but for new game overviews I think it should be done solo most of the time!
Hey guys! I would love to see a top ten about games with zero downtime or off turn actions.
Great Idea!
Did this happen?
I like watching board game reviews because I don't have any friends to actually play them with.
You can play online, lots of friends there, I started a FB group to pull in gamers to p,at with, give that a try
or get a wife, have a bunch of kids, then play with them. no need for friends. 😁

16:23 Zee “You got some ‘splainin’ to do!” . Funny laugh sounds just like Ricky Ricardo.

But you could just buy space base size sleeves on their own.

This was an instant buy after playing at a FLGS, but man, the rules for the special cards are not good... Plan on checking out the BGG FAQ.
That game mat looks like the large map from Myth II Soulblighter . Wights in the water ! Trow on the bridge ...
"as you notice this card doesn't have a reward spot" no, I didn't notice anything. I can't see anything. It's too tiny!
Finally getting to play this game!
man dig this intro so much
Freaking LOOOOOOVE this game!
SPOSSSS BOSSSSS
Little down time. I'm sold!
The music is so good at the beginning of the show XD
Think I'll wait for a better looking version. With so many games coming out I get to be picky :)
Are you still waiting..?
@@ryanbrown9102 haha! Nope. I actually won a copy at a convention. Was disappointed by the game which is surprising since I usually sync up with Tom.
@AJ Estur 🤷♂️
Why there isn't seal of excellence on miami dice reviews?

mgk2020 Thanks!!

Love this game. Where online is the FAQ form mentioned?
David M I'd guess the game page on BoardGameGeek
i am wondering if the game would not be better w/o using the yellow point cards
With my group, it would be at least 90 minutes, with people AP’ing over which cards to buy.
What is the deal with the table footprint? Is it too big?
How do you think this compares to Valeria: Card Kingdoms, with all of the expansions?
Space of Base.
Machi Koro meets Kingsburg?
I really thought I'd like Kingsburg, but I think teaching it to new gamers really takes way from the experience
I like all 3 just fine...I do wish that Zee would find a less mechanical alternative to the TARGET system...a minor gripe.
"... and Zee Garcia."

Actually he does at 2:46 and 9:46.

How does this compare to Valeria the Card Kingdom? I thought you would compare it more to this than to Machi Koro.
I won this game just by getting 2 points every turn and boosting about how close I was to winning.
Space Ace! Look, there's Borf's ship! Kimberly! Nooooooo...
You cannot win!
etc
games should end when youre still having fun
an APP would be great
I never understand the game flow what Sam showing it :/
I understand him fine and Im Nowegian... Good job as always, Sam
I played it twice in January and felt the strategy is in going for 1-6 cards
Space Vase

It was Tom's #8 in his top 100 of All Time in 2024. So I'd say yes!
@@branboom3342 Ha! I don't even remember writing this comment. But I agree. Big Space Base fan!
20:59 That's what he said.
This is a good game... But a bit too simple for Miami Dice! Pls give us the good ones!
Simple doesn't mean not good. This is a good one.
As I said, it is a good game...
"Allowed" to talk about it? Some reading comprehension please...

The ships and the backgrounds clash so much.

it is not first to 40, when someone gets 40, finish the round, most points wins. (pin this)
Great game but with one of the worst rules books of the year... They took 20 pages to explain a game that could have been explained in 4 pages... Not to mention the english mistakes...
Seems like Catan minus player interaction.

pleeeeeeeeeease don't make sam explain every miami dice game
I second this. I like Tom best
Sam here...thanks for that vote of confidence!
4 Likes is hardly representative of the whole viewer base, also he did say "every" not that he doesn't want you around :P

It's just too ugly and not unique enough for me to have it replace Machi Koro.
It's always hard when the reviews are good but the game is so ugly. Man it's like an eyesore on the table.
I love miniature games. I can embrace cards when they invite actions. I love space but this game does no seem right in my slley.
I much prefer single reviewers giving a game overview and review of new games - too much silly chat when all three are together. I love the top 10s and other set-tos with all three - but for new game overviews I think it should be done solo most of the time!
I disagree. I like to hear all three opinions and the banter is enjoyable.
Machi Koro ripoff.
Machi Koro is a Catan ripoff.
