Love the song! Whenever I'm feeling down, I start singing this song and suddenly everything becomes magically nice and welcoming for me. Like whenever I have a quarrel with my friend or I've an exam next day, this song just keeps me going on! R.I.P Johnny!
Thanks John This the rock! This song always rocks me. Party on! Night is young. Rabit's sex is cute, lol
great song....great collaboration....horn section is phenomenal. it's one of those songs that you don't hear for a long time and then it pops up on one of the XM stations, and then you're like, "Oh, yeah....I totally forgot about that song!" and it sounds so damn good that you turn the volume way up and sing along out loud and you don't give a shit who's watching.....love it.
What a great-GREAT SONG!!!!! Love Lennon and to McCartney's credit recommend NINETEEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FIVE from WINGS....Great song Sir John GREAT!!!
This song started bouncing around in my head a few weeks ago and it keeps popping up. Great video (for its time) and, yes, I'd have to say whoever created the opening sequence for SNL saw this video and dug it. SNL was courting the ex-Beatles at that time, trying to get them to reunite on the show.
It is, and on backing vocals. John was apprehensive about going back onstage so Elton bet him if his song went to number one, John had to appear with him on stage. It did and so John played with Elton John at one of his concerts. Happy Christmas, war is over if you want it!!! ImaginePeaceReally
Whatever gets me through the night... it's not alright. I got a desire for my nights... and you can imagine it perfectly... Tonite was gettin' complicated and all I wanted is to get here just to dream of what I want to touch soon... Whatever gets me through your nights' alright... it's alright!
that would kind of blow my mind a little bit if john lennon was the one doing all those different animations. even if its not entirely, i know his style was in there...which leaves one lasting impression: endless forms of expression utilized constantly, each with different times of sole focus, means u always have way more to express than u can at that moment. u can express the whole world as u see it any time, just not all at once. having that raises an artist up to the heights that they reached
in other words when john played with his friends, the beatles, this art is also what he was expressing in musical form. every different form u give him gives his soul a different face u can recognize. and thats what all four of them were doing, focusing the vastness of each of their own imagined worlds into the relatively small size of each song...bringing to it the energy that was reflected back at them thru beatlemania. yeah i think thats enough for now lol
A good duet with Elton John on this song, John Promised Elton if this song went to number one he would appear live in concert with him, which it did and he indeed did appear at Madison Square Garden as a special guest singing three songs with Elton!
cancion que llego a numero 1 en estados unidos, participa con elton john.en agradecimiento john lennon canta con elton john en la version, lucy in the sky with diamonds,y esta cancion tambien llego a numero 1 en estados unidos.
It boggles my mind that how many conotations that Libs have attributed to this song ! What ever gets you thrughth the nite! Where in the F... is the hiden meaning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reason it reminds you of SNL is because it's the same sax player, Tom Scott, if I'm not mistaken, who I think also played on Paul's listen to what the man said.
This is totally the theme song for Saturday Night Live. The footage looks like the 1991ish-1994ish opening. "Adam Sandler... Julia Sweeney..." "With music from G.E. Smith and the Saturday Night Live band"
Oh yes this song is incredible good a real master piece of John Lennon btw he sang this song alone without Eltn John in this version but good anyway :D
its so fascinating how he only had one number one after the beatles. its like...this guy trying to produce hits every now and then...and all he had to do was think...OH YEAH (the beatles) :). what a good thing to have in your backpocket.
humans;u aint kidding,i almost thought thats what it was, even the sax.i like the sparse antohlogy version where he runs outta steam and starts singing "jealous guy"
Love the song! Whenever I'm feeling down, I start singing this song and suddenly everything becomes magically nice and welcoming for me. Like whenever I have a quarrel with my friend or I've an exam next day, this song just keeps me going on! R.I.P Johnny!
Thanks John

No, the sax player is Bobby Keys, who also did the saxophone solo for the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar."
whatever gets you to the light! s'all right. s'all right!

One of John's better solo efforts.
It boggles my mind that how many conotations that Libs have attributed to this song ! What ever gets you thrughth the nite! Where in the F... is the hiden meaning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Man ..This Song..Fucking ROCKS!!!
I had this same question too. I don't know that but I know the drawing is Lennon's style so it had to be made by him.
nice and catchy...YES INDEED!
That sax has got to be the guy from Saturday Night Live. I think he did some stuff with David Bowie around the same time too. Anyone know for sure?
does anybody know from where this video clip is taken?
