Could QB salary caps be on the horizon in the NFL? | Dan Patrick Show | NBC Sports
/ nbcsports - กีฬา
This is an idea that is long overdue in implementation.
For years, teams have had to turn themselves into pretzels because they had to pay their QB.
New England was lucky to have Tom Brady who didn't get greedy and left money on the table
to let the team fill out around him. But he was the exception.
Dan Patrick is maybe the last that should be speaking on football matters or on behalf of the NFL, except maybe Mike Florio
They should be. It's crazy money they are getting paid
I am with Pat on this. Sick and tired of not knowing the players on each team with some players moving every year. I quit buying jerseys because of this.
Why would the NFLPA ever agree to this?
because the NON QBs FAR outnumber the QBs in the NFLPA, so in this case the majority wins so everyone else gets a pay raise
Well, this would give room for veterans who are currently unemployed or underpaid to get their money. Justin Simmons could sign right now if this happens.
@@rkbelmont1138 players gonna get their money regardless, you cap one position then it’ll proceed to the next
@@Chris_K_907: Yes. Smart comment.
@@Bolttoast SINCE 94the cap has gone up 500%, but QB salaries have gone up close to 1,000% over that time period, which by extension and math means that other positions pay have not grown by the right amount of 500% in fact almost none have come close to it because all of the increase is going to qb’s. This is a real issue. Especially in a world where the QB has all the protection in the world and can play into his 40’s now if they want. Whereas EVERY other position has a career shelf life of at the most half as long./. Why should the qb’s be able to play the longest AND make more than everyone else by a huge margin?
The salary cap creates parity. A QB cap would allow more dominant teams. The quarterbacks would just go to the best teams because everyone is paying the same.
I think the salary cap for the team levels the playing field. So a team with an elite quarterback has to win with younger players. This is a bad move for teams without elite quarterback play.
I doubt it will happen.
What I think does happen in a few years is that teams finally realize they are crippling their salary cap with too much allocated to a QB, and the prices come down.
Yes I agree, teams already have a cap. Teams should be able to prioritize spending on positions as they see fit. If they are currently overspending on QBs eventually there will be a correction.
You’ve already got tiered threshold positions of importance. QBs on top and RBs at the bottom. One gets money and one gets relative chicken feed. I’m sure team unity has never been stronger.
Seems like that would be a Collective Bargaining subject. What do the players get?
It only makes quarterbacks more valuable not less.
Players union might 30qbs taking all only 48 other players getting cut to accommodate this. Plus dead cap for qb by delaying paying them
The NFL doesn't want players to stay with their drafted teams, there is more hype and jersey sales etc. when players switch teams which equals more 💰💰💰and that is all they care about!
Awful idea
No Cap solves everything.
Other than sports, what career pays people their full salary when injured? Why not have player make the minimum while rehabbing and the time on IR is added to the contract (player option).
The NFL already stands for Not For Long. Penalizing players rehabbing would be punitive. Also, teams have the option of insurance policies to cover injuries on large contracts.
No careers other than sports? Congress I'm pretty sure gets full salary if their injured or sick. Sure there are others
Money Definately getting out of hand for QB's. Give sum to the running backs. How much money do you need. You have generational wealth...i understand top QB's getting paid but these other dudes that are average to below average, there shud be a cap on them. 👊🏽
Jerry Jones had the best idea fire Goodell
i believe Micah will be only one paid in Dallas say goodbye to Dak and Ceedee why pay a receiver big money when qb is gone next season. For Cowboys it make or break this year I don't blame Jerry or Stephen the cowboy fans need to accept this u can't pay everyone at least Ceedee can get u some picks
Omg….NOOOOOO! This only helps the good teams right now. That’s why the owners want this. If this happens, it will flow to EVERY POSITION.
This is an excuse for pricey teams to get what they want.
No one is going to accept a cap for QBs.... the QBs salary shouldn't count towards the cap, like the coaching staff.
Keeping players on the same team is huge!
Teams should get rewarded for resigning a player. Have a sliding scale, say if your resigning a player that you drafted and has been on your roster for 5 years, 15% of the salary doesn't go against the cap. 10 years 30%. It would incitivise teams in keeping players they drafted.
Allow teams to pay more to keep players, and more expensive to sign free agents, because that entire salary is going against the cap.
Every qb shouldn't break the ceiling. It's idiotic Trevor Lawrence shouldn't be making more than Mahomes, Allen and Burrow.
His contract was up at the right time
@@erickennedy8534 doesn't mean you just make him the highest paid quarterback. Lawrence is barely top 10.
It's a microcosm of society. The people on top get to have rules made just for them. The people working in the trenches get the scraps. Eventually the sport of football will just be a 7 on 7 flag league with a QB passing time clock. . I'm sure the fans have unlimited funds to support millionaire pay increases.Your NFL Sunday Ticket will just go up every single year. Why don"t teams offer NIL deals to keep costs reasonable for fans. It only will cost you a little over a grand to go see a game in person with your wife if you don't want your nose to bleed. AVERAGE TICKET PRICE $377. Sorry, tapped out.
Do owners want a Super Bowl or simply a good team? Paying for a high priced QB will get you above .500 but usually does not result in a Super Bowl. At some point, baseball’s money ball approach will be introduced to the NFL.
players union would never go for it
doesn't matter. owners bring it up at next cba and if players say no, they get locked out. Billionaires will outlast the players (always have).
Why wouldn't they? QB contracts have been taking up a larger percentage of the cap than before, leaving less for every other position. Bigger QB contracts means smaller contracts for the other players
The Players will lose
Danny trying to take credit for anything a sports league does.....is absolutely hilarious... what an arrogant fool 👎👎👎👎
And the chiefs are not the best team the nfl are making sure they have a mini dynasty....no holding calls the last 2 super bowls
