Fun fact: The guy who played Mad Dog, Yayan Ruihan is a Pencak Silat guru and used to train the President's bodyguards in basic training back in the day

I met and interacted with ex an paspampres (pres. Bodyguard) during soeharto era. Man was old like late 50s but damn, guy was grizzly and hearty. He was just beaming longevity and life force all around and his hand shake felt like im shaking hands with a mountain.
Had firm handshakes with CEOs and prominent figures but it just hits different..not just firm but also felt full of his life force.
The made and trained the choreography 3 months before production. They actually planned to do the 2nd movie first, the script was already there, the choreography was already done, but they couldn't get the budget. So they made a whole new movie (which is this one) new script, they literally made the choreography from zero all over again.
Fun fact: Mike Shinoda composed the soundtrack in this movie. That's why the end credit music feels so Linkin Park.
Fun fact: the original release was scored by Indonesian artist. It was when the right to distribute to US (and some other countries) did the movie got re-scored by Mike Shinoda.
Id still cant believe that team up between a Welsh man and some Indonesian martial artist would end up with one if not the best action films this decade. And they even manage to make a sequel that actually surpassed the prequel thats been already a masterpiece itself

They Made a whole ass prequel to that story to make enough money to do the 2 Raid
The "mad dog" and his friend acting some dope Silat with Keanu Reeves in john wick : parabellum too, there's my fav part!
One of the best films ever put to cinema and the second is even better. Honestly even if you ian haven't seen it before if you guys had seen it before it still just cool seeing ur reactions to such a classic

Expendable who what
The scenes in each fight in this film are very detailed, like seeing a fight that has emotions even though it's just acting. I appreciate and agree that The Raid 1 & 2 films are very good. Every move, music, effects, colors, camera, crew and more, all played out in detail.
Even I pay attention to the small details in every second, it's lifelike and nuanced real life.
The Raid 2 is a must!

The guy who plays MadDog is the fight choreographer.
I think there was some greenscreen/VFX in some shots, but it is not obvious "impossible" type of stuff.. It was mostly to edit out the pads that the stunt actors were landing on, removing wires and stuff like that.
They did the final fight for a week actually.

Mad Dog and Rama are silat experts. It's akin to muay thai except it uses lots of knife play in addition to knees and elbows. They are also responsible for choreographing the fight scenes as well as acting the main roles of antagonist and protagonist, respectivelly, in spite of never having worked in film before.
Machete Leader is a bare knuckle boxing champion in Indonesia.
Most actors are not actors but martial artists. This has the same acting pool as City of God. Everyone is an amateur performer.
Music was composed by a member of Linkin Park.
All gun flares and bullet shells are CGI, recoil is acted by the actors who, I will remind, are not classically trained.
This movie is severely underrated and overlooked by the entire world, the money it grossed is fucking criminal, and if this movie can't make bank you should doubt everyone's opinion from this day onward because The Raid makes Ong Bak look like Thong Crack.

24:31 yeah it's not two days, it took literally weeks to shot that final fight.
Totally worth it. Lol. IMO, this movie totally ruined most American fight scene in movies for me. Lol. It’ll always remain a stand out to me because their win against Mad Dog totally came down to luck with that bulb dropping. Two vs One, but the brothers still got their butts handed to them.
