Cool fact the guy that plays Maddog was not only the fight choreographer but he was also part of the elite private guard for the President of Indonesia. He is considered a national hero in his country. So he is a badass on screen and off.
The saying about Iko being so quick that the camera cant follow this movements is real. He's often being told to slow down during the film making because he's just really that fast. Lewis Tan even said that during his training for Wu assassins Iko is so quick that it looks like his movements has been speed up edited lol
"Some of"? What else comes close? Honest question. So far The Raid 1/2 have peak choreography out of everything I've seen. And my nerd ass have seen a lot.
@@infinitysynthesis CTHD is too cheesy to me. Drunken Master 2 is almost on The Raid's level. Ong Bak is sweet but that's more due to the lack of wirework.
I love Yayan (Mad Dog) and Cecep (Final Boss in raid 2) cameo in John Wick 3 as well. But they should have gotten more screen time and showing more of their fight choreography in that movie.
I like to imagine that the actor playing Mad Dog in the sequel is still playing Mad Dog as if the character was so badass that he survived Rama in the original film. You don’t find out his real name in the first film and in the second a reference is made to the character having been hit before and managing to take care of himself.
This is like a masterclass in editing, translations, tension, and great choreography. Great reaction. The 2nd one is just as good and picks up right where this left off.

Yeay its finally here! Always love to see foreign content creator enjoying Indonesian movies! Hopefully you two will also continue with the sequel. The original plan for this movie was to actually make the sequel as the original The Raid however Gareth Edwards had no finances to do so at the time so he made The Raid: Redemption with less budget hence why it has a more indie feel. They still did not skimp on the action as it is still amazing but The Raid 2 is next level.
@@EricSarahReact yes! The Raid 2 cranked it up to 11 with a more open storyline and more amazing action scenes. Thank you for this and all of your reaction video!
@@EricSarahReact I'd like to see you guys to react for more Indonesian movies, you saw TNCFU, The Raid and probably the sequel coming. But Indonesia also has some pretty cool horrors, like May The Devil Take You (by the director of TNCFU, it's on Netflix but the sequel is on Shudder), The Forbidden Door by Joko Anwar had US release recently, and his Impetigore and Satan's Slaves are on Shudder. Queen of Black Magic by Kimo Stamboel is also on Shudder. Or maybe do Indonesian superhero movie Gundala by Joko Anwar, it's on Hulu I believe. Gundala is the first installment of Bumilangit Cinematic Universe, and their next movie Sri Asih is coming out on October 6th, so maybe it'll be interesting for you guys. I personally think Gundala had a lot of stuff to improve but it's still a good start.
One of the best action movies. I watched it 2 times in cinema and likes 50 times since blu ray release. I love it. Its a shame the third one never came to be.
yeah, been waiting for the 3rd movie but it never came out. However, if you want to watch the similar movie, you can watch The Night Comes for Us in netflix.
* absolutely * watch the sequel. it's more of a sprawling crime drama - it's actually the film the director wanted to make first but he couldn't get the funding - so the pacing isn't as uniquely relentless as redemption. but the set-piece fights are if anything even wilder.
I love the movie!! The best part is that this isn't even the movie they wanted to make. Gareth Evans wrote a movie called Berandal but the project turned out to be too complex and they couldn't get funding. So they decided to make a simpler movie with a smaller budget almost as a proof of concept and that turned into The Raid. Once they showed what they could do Evans rewrote Berandal (the movie he originally wanted to make) so that it tied in with events in The Raid and this became The Raid 2
Great reaction! Have you seen Dredd? It is similar to this movie but not enough that it feels like a copy, a pretty awesome movie based on the comics... And yes the actor that played Mad Dog was in John Wick 3
The prison fight scene in the second film is epic, fun fact these films were actually banned in Malaysia I think due to certain scenes like the prison scene I mentioned in the second film, and certain death scenes in the first film
I, an Indonesian, am very proud of the worldwide popularity of laha films like The Raid. What I like most about the film, apart from the character of each actor, is also the fight scenes that are made as natural as possible without the help of excessive effects, making this film enjoyable to watch like we see a real fight.
The Raid 1 & 2 are movies made with the aim to promote Indonesian martial art - Pencak Silat, hence the fight choreograph in those movies were based on that martial art. Iko Uwais (Rama) and Yayan Ruhian (MadDog) who designed the fight choreo were both grandmaster of PS.
one thing i havent figured out is the similarity of "the raid" and "dredd" they have both play in a different world but if you have seen one, you also have seen the other. they are so similar, there are entire scenes that are basically identical, the entire story has the same twists at the same points in time. its like someone prepared a film script and then made two movies out of the same script. and both films are more or less released at the same time so it cant be some sort of remake.
My wife is Indonesian (where the movie is from) and Indonesians LOVE this movie. Why? You have to understand the level of corruption of the police over there. It's hard for Americans to grasp how bad it is - I thought about writing examples, but it would be a freaking book - point being, the police are all crooked - they (the cops) force any honest cops out - and bribery and violence is their way of doing business. So - why do the Indonesian people LOVE this movie? Because they want good cops, they want heroes, and this movie was a MASSIVE hit over there. Think of it - do you know ANY other Indonesian movies?
