    I have an '07 FZ6; most of your complaints about it don't bother me, but I totally agree about the windshield height. I'm now using a Cee Bailey 24" aftermarket windshield, and although it kind of kills the sporty lines of the bike, it's fantastic for blocking wind. In a slight tuck, the helmet goes totally silent. All you hear is engine and road.

    I'm having a hard time hearing you complain about having an LCD tach. If you're even looking at your tach to know when to shift, you should just drive a car. Or ride a bike with no tach and LEARN HOW TO LISTEN to your machine. I can tell you exactly what gear I am in and roughly how fast I'm going just by the sound of my bike. You should be able to do the same and not rely on instrumentation for something that should be INSTINCT. Be happy you even have a tach.

    Jeez dude... you're super picky. This is an amazing bike. I got an '09. Everything is awesome about it.

    well, some points you should explore
    1 - the clutch engagement can be adjusted if you turn the piece where the cable runs through near the lever, i do it on the fly sometimes.
    2 - the fuel tank does come out easier if you remove the bolt on wich it pivots, pull the tank back, up, and then insert the bolt again.
    3 - mirrors do fold
    4 - the "useless light" on my bike is the imobilizer light
    5 - the stock screen isn't as bad as you described it, is worse =P

    I suppose it's a good sign that a lot of the complaints about this bike are just nitpicks and the video has a nearly even like to dislike ratio. I guess I'm buying a good bike!

    The air filter.. lift and shift back the tank. You don't need to remove the frontal structure

    My 2007 FZ6 tends to buzz in third gear. I also feel the gearing between 4th and 5th are too close - but I could be wrong. My stock mirrors fold back no problem. As far as the tach goes - you should be able to tell by feel and sound after riding just a few months. Also the 1st gear always CLUNKS despite being in full idle. I switched out the levers to fully adjustable short levers and that was an improvement. At 6'1" the bike feels a little small for me, but so far pretty happy with it. The various plastic fairing pieces are NOT CHEAP, and I have not been able to find aftermarket yet so still paying way too much for Yamaha OEM

    I think most viewers would be happy to hear that not one mechanical issue made it to the list. Just some subjective nitpicks, so that's pretty good.
    As far as the rearsets, I'm sure they left them silver cuz it's a possible friction point between it and your boots and the paint would just end up rubbing away over time making it look even worse.
    Tip for your exposed wire going to the tail. Try cutting a few lengths of brake cable housing and running the wire thru it. It will look better and keep the wire protected.
    Ride On!

    The mirrors actually do fold, the entire arm swings back. There's a rather inexpensive GP shift kit for these bikes. The 5th light is for an immobilizer system that you don't have on your bike. The fairing comes off easier then the method you described. I stopped watching at this point.

    We seem to share the same taste in bikes, my good man. I too am a DR-Z400 owner, and I am now looking to buy an FZ6 (though the 2007+ model, can't stand the instrument cluster of the 2006 and older ones). Thanks for a good video, few things are more informative than "10 things I hate about [insert bike]" videos. There are enough "I love my [insert bike]" videos which are, unfortunately, not great for someone looking to buy. You want to hear about the bad stuff too.

    Only thing I agree with is the crap tachometer, yamaha must have agreed as they changed it for a proper one in 07. Someone commented if you need to look at your revs you shouldn't be riding a bike... eh, why is a tacho fitted to every single bike I've ever seen? If you wait till the rev limiter that's dumb and if you can tell just from listening the difference between 13500 and 14000 rpm you have a better ear than me. The best thing would be the r6 dash with shiftight, you can keep your eyes on the road and see the light at the edge of your field of view. I loved my 04 fz6 so much I'm buying another one (08 s2) this weekend.

  • @thebuckstopshere79
    @thebuckstopshere79 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Loved the video mate - and YES! As a FZ6 owner i empathise with many of your points. I have offered some fellow FZ commentary (in case you might care) ;)
    1. Rearsets and rear pegs. Actually yeh ive never noticed this. I have a 2008 FZ6N and have the same myself. Black rearsets are definitely the go
    2. Shift linkage. Yeh i hear ya but FZ6 buyers generally arent really looking for a reverse shift as they arent built for the track
    3. Mirrors. Yep - agreed but back when this bike was made stock foldable mirrors werent as commonplace as they are now. The naked stock mirrors are MUCH worse. Which is why i have bar-ends
    4. Gauges - i think that bottom light should be for the immobilizer (if you have one). And yes - LCD tacho is crap.
    5. Tank - i have a naked so dont have this issue but i suspect part of the reason for this was the FZ6 has a (comparitively) large 19L tank
    6. Headlight/wiring - I would never complain about something being TOO accessible when it comes maintenance time
    7. Clutch - yep. Stock levers are crap but the clutch cable on the naked is much worse, It travels directly over the key entry. Do you realise the clutch cable has another adjuster located behind the block under the tank
    8. Exhaust - pretty sure that is a rich mix more than it is airflow. (My akrapovics do the same) Have you had it re-mapped with a PC?
    9. Rear fender / tail. Yep. Stock atrocity is not pretty but no worse than many other bikes. I have seen some other owners make custom rear ends with a panel that covers the bottom of the pipes. Bit tricky for cooling though
    10. Screen. Screen .... whats a screen? haha
    I have a few extra points to consider -
    Suspension - i realise this is a entry level bike but the suspension is VERY basic, fork springs are way too soft (especially for a fat f***er like me) and non-adjustable
    Chain - 530 chain is OVERKILL for a 600. Particulary for a modestly detuned 600 (conpared to the R6) 525 is plenty (and SO much lighter)
    Indicators - ugly huge stock units are best tossed toward the bin area after fitting some mini LED units
    Centre Stand - not sure why i decided to part with almost $300 AUD for this on mine but the extra weight and loss of ground clearance is not worth it. Get a paddock stand.
    Timing chain adjuster - the stock one will fail early and that horrible noise you can hear coming from the right side of the bike is telling you its gone, Get a APE manual adjuster. Problem fixed
    Airbox - Get the dremel out and open that baby right up. Stock airbox is VERY choked off. Get some deep induction growl!

    Subbed -- love the videos and enjoy the hell out of the FZ6. Two sidenotes, I believe the 06 FZ6 came with stock collapsible mirrors (mine did...) and adjustable, albeit longer, control levers. Lots of good upgrades to do to make it more 'your' ride. Check out boneman's website if you haven't already.

    • @ChiefJay
      @ChiefJay  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +77ticktock Strange, mine are definitely not collapsible. My brake lever was adjustable but not my clutch. Weird. Maybe they tossed some leftover 05 parts on mine in the factory! Thanks for the sub and support!

    Lol this bike is easy to work on, if you know how to use a wrench anyways. I agree on the tachometer but I have an 07 so it uses good old analog. Talk about splitting hairs, there's not too many bikes out there for the value. I put updated looking front and rear signals, headlights, frame sliders, iridium windscreen for 20 bucks here and there. Even got a led rear license plate light. With a handful of hand tools you can probably take most of this bike apart, most jobs under an hour.

  • @ChrisDSaint
    @ChrisDSaint 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wow dude, you are absurdly picky, for the battery and air filter access you just need to unbolt all 3 screws that hold the tank, lift and slide back the tank and one you have cleared the fairing you just lift it. Of you want to be a bit more cautious you can Bolt the long latch screw again and use something to hold the tank up.
