What Shane said :). You need BT-DN110 (internal battery) or BM-DN100 (ext. battery mount) for D-fly / Bluetooth compatibility (EW-WU111 / 101... NOT the SM-EWW01, that is ANT only). I'm trying to use the SM-BCR2 charger. When I connect it and do the connection check, the E-Tube app finds a newer firmware version for the charger, and it won't let me do anything else than updating the charger firmware. But the firmware update process fails because the connection to the charger seems to disappear. To make the E-Tube app recognise the charger, I have to physically disconnect it and then do the little VirtualBox connection dance, and I end up back at the screen telling me there is a new firmware version for the charger. So I'm pretty much stuck in a loop. Do any of you have suggestions about how I get past this using E-Tube through VirtualBox?
Arhh... now that's a tricky one. You may need to ditch the VM option and use Bootcamp for this. Or find someone with a Windows machine to quickly update the charger itself first.
ugh. I am so frustrated by this e-tube from Shimano. Seems like terrible software. First I tried the firmware upgrade through the mobil app as I have a Mac computer and didn't want to have to load the virtual machines. well, the app failed on the firmware upgrade and now the app won't connect to the wireless. So I did end up loading both parallels and virtual box to get windows 10. I installed the e-tube app on the parallels Windows 10 and 11, virtual box windows 10 and even windows 10 on my work computer that is PC based. In all cases when I try to open the e-tube app it simply doesn't open. Doesn't show up in Task Manager. This is the most frustrating process to get access to the Di2 system. Anyone have this issue? Any ideas on how to get the software started? Does the Charger need to be connected to the computer before starting the app? I tried this at one point with no success. Thanks for any ideas.
I have the same issue and found out v5.0.3 is the last version that can be executed from a VM. I have contacted Shimano but have not heard anything back yet.
It's a battle of the brands. I can't justify the price of SRAM AXS. A Force AXS cassette is the same price of these two Di2 levers I picked up! Crazy. And the price of adding BLE to Di2 for the same updates from a smartphone is still a lot cheaper than... well... anything AXS. I don't dislike the tech...it's just so out of reach it's insane.
So there is really no point in buying this thing for the home mechanic. I've been riding Di2 bikes since 2015 and the standard SMB connection works perfectly and does 99% of what the PCE1 does....
@@funk44 It's one way, but it's a little more 'one or the other'. A VM will allow the Windows 10 instance to run within OSX which is a little more suited for how much I use it for this task on the Mac.

Shane Miller - GPLama legend thanks. I’ll try those
Shane Miller - GPLama turns out it was a pretty easy fix because my computer was blocking the virtual box from installing. Just had to okay it in my security settings and it worked
@@gplama Yeah, I figured this would be the result after having tried it 10 times or so. At least I didn't brick the charger 😅 Thanks for the reply.
@@gplama I had the exact same issue charger firmware issue loop as Rasmus. Going to phone a friend. Thanks for the video
At least while macs run on x86...
LOL, so glad that I have eTAP and not DI2, because with eTAP all updates are with Bluetooth and my smartphone.
@@gplama , for sure the eTAP is pricey, but I still have the 1st generation system, not the new AXS system.
So there is really no point in buying this thing for the home mechanic. I've been riding Di2 bikes since 2015 and the standard SMB connection works perfectly and does 99% of what the PCE1 does....
Yep. The charger/USB does what most people need. It’s more about using E-Tube under a VM than using the PC Link.
@@gplama I'm not a mac user but isn't boot camp what most people use to access windows on a mac?
@@funk44 It's one way, but it's a little more 'one or the other'. A VM will allow the Windows 10 instance to run within OSX which is a little more suited for how much I use it for this task on the Mac.
He doesn't tell you you need a usb c adapter to connect the usb 3.0 to the MacBook Pro.!!!!!!!!
Calm down. I’m here. It depends on the Mac you’re using. And if you’re this deep into things, finding the correct adapter isn’t going to be a problem.
Maybe it is just me but having to go to this much trouble to shift gears on a bike is beyond stupid.
None of this has to be done. It works out of the box. I just like tinkering with this tech.
