    Excellent video (awesome editing and well put together). Clear and concise, this made what looked intimidating simple. I ordered the parts, followed the instructions, and upgraded to ver 4.2.2.

    Mike, like all your videos this one is excellent. I recently got a 12 speed Dura Ace DI2, my first electronic shifting bike. I wasn't looking forward to having to pack up the bike and take it into the shop for certain firmware updates. But, I followed you video in terms of what's needed and how to update. No issues, and I'm once again able to do all my own maintenance and updates. Thanks, your help is super appreciated.

      One thing I failed to mention, that another viewer pointed out, is that you can also use a Di2 cable connected to your lever and the REAR derailleur to perform lever firmware updates. This is in addition to the two other methods I mentioned (lever to Di2 battery and lever to front derailleur). Works no better or no worse, just another option.

      @@bikesbymike "you can also use a Di2 cable connected to your lever and the REAR derailleur"
      Not sure I get what you're saying. If you connect the rear derailleur with your shifter you're not going to be connected to the battery as the rear derailleur has just one port. How do you expect this to work, am I missing the trick?

    Perfect - thanks a lot for your explanation. I ordered only the cable, connected the STI with the battery and the update was no issue. My new bike is my first one with a Di2 Ultegra 12 Speed... I was quite unsure how to handle with this but your Video showed exactly the right steps. Again - thanks a lot, hopefully the shifting experience is worth this.

    Mike can’t you also use the cable that plugs into the 12sp rear derailleur to power the shifters?

    • @bikesbymike

      Yes, you are correct! My mistake. So, in addition to wiring the levers to either the Di2 battery or the FD, you can wire them to the rear derailleur.

    Great presentation thanks. Just now looking at my bike I find the port on the left shifter but not on the right. Am I just not finding the right hand shifter port or will the left shifter connect to the right wirelessly for updating? I’m currently showing the latest update version 4.1.1 on both shifters - Ultegra FD-R8170.

    • @bikesbymike
      @bikesbymike  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m surprised about that. But since it’s stating that both levers have up-to-date firmware, you are all good. Not sure if Shimano just recently enabled dual lever updates with just one connection.

      @@bikesbymike just curious, how much did the di2 cable and cable junction connector cost you ? What is the best place to buy these two parts ? I see that these parts are available on Ali express as well, however, what do you suggest from where should I buy these parts to update the firmware of the 105 di2 shifter levers ?

      @@amritv6889 AliExpress is probably fine, but I chose to purchase my parts from bike shops. I purchased the 2-port junction and 1400mm cable from Jenson USA. Great online shop as they offer all-in, to-your-door pricing for Canadian customers. You won't get surprised by duties and brokerage charges. $21.99 USD for junction and $23.99 for cable. The cable tool I bought from Primeau Velo in Quebec for $7.99 CAD + shipping.

    Thanks, super helpful; QUESTION: have a 1x bike with Ultegra 12sp Di2 - can you confirm that I also can connect to the rear deraileur cable to avoid pulling the battery out? And can I connect different shifters from several bikes to the same bike in effect croos-connecting bikes for the firmware update for the shifters (to avoid having to pull one wire after the other on several bikes and just use the same connection on one set shifters after the other?

    • @bikesbymike
      @bikesbymike  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your first question is easy. The second one I'm not so sure about.
      Yes, you can run a Di2 cable from your shifter to the rear derailleur. I should have mentioned this in my video. It's actually one of the two methods specifically recommended by Shimano. The other being the direct connection to the Di2 battery.
      I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the cross-connecting method you describe. I'm just not sure whether you would first need to create new bike profiles, and re-pair components, prior to running the lever firmware updates.

    i bought that 2 port junction thing and a spare cable just in case, thinking i would probably never use it cause shimano rarely updates the firmware, and when they do it's just something minor that i could skip, who would of thought they actually came up with something very useful, the front shift next function, giving my no hood button 105 di2 a spare button to program.

      I would have thought it's a hardware limitation as well, but then I saw this comment on the Better Shifting website..."...initially, Shimano said that this would only be a problem the very first time you update the shift levers, and that future updates should be wireless. However, update 4.1.1 and update 4.1.2 cannot be installed fully wireless either. Whether or not future updates can, remains unknown."
