You are assuming that the failure was your fault, but there was also probably a reason the truck was parked. The previous owner probably overheated it at some point, causing the damage and the temperature gauge has probably been faulty for a while.

Youll want to check your oil cooler as well to see if thats leaking as well getting oil in your water. Its pretty common on those cat engines

  • @nicholasherman8155
    @nicholasherman8155 ปีที่แล้ว +9

So I am a diesel tech up here in Oregon. I have a small repair business in the north side of the state. I have rebuilt several 3406 cats. I can tell you that there is no hi pressure oil in the cylinder head on one. Only oil to go above the block is from the push tubes. It drains back down thru the head to the oil pan. That truck was missing on multiple cylinders and blowing coolant out the exhaust. I’m betting that you have a head gasket out between 2 cylinders or a broken liner. It’s quite possible with the color of the water in the radiator that the liners did get worm holes. Don’t ever ever ever run a Diesel engine with just water in it. The harmonics of the combustion paired with the surface tension of straight water will erode the metal on the engine. And some engines take very few miles gif this to happen. Notice that water will dome over the top of a glass but antifreeze won’t. It can’t hold the air pockets that will burst with combustion in a block and eat out the metal. Also if you look for an older Ford 8000 Canadian they had a whale belly frame on them that is like you are talking about. I know where there is one here in Oregon that has a 3208 cat and a 10 yard dump box on it. He might even be willing to let it go for cheap. Keep up the good work!

As long as you're having fun, and love what it is that you're doing, it's not really job the way I feel about, and I taught that to my sons too.
As soon as its no longer fun, and something that you truly enjoy, and it's getting to more stressful than anything else.
It's time to rethink what you're doing, and figure out if there's a way to get back to when it wasn't a heart attack pending, because life is too short to burn yourself out for the benefit of others with nothing left for yourself at the end.
Excellent content, and when you slow down you really do have a entertaining, and informative channel that compliments you as a person.
Head up shoulders back, keep your eyes firmly in the direction of your goals.
Make a comprehensive plan, and never change from the plan, slight modifications are expected, but never change the core of your plans.
By doing this, and not deviating from them, because someone else wants you to do more of what they want.
They're not interested in you or your plan, they're out for whatever you can do for them.
Walk away if it's not a mutual benefit for both parties, and then base that on the amount of effort each party is bringing to the agreement.

  • @doublenickle570

I'm looking at your drawing of the future truck after all the modifications are done and I'm wondering how your going to need 2 steer axles with all that frame space. You said the living quarters wouldn't add that much weight. I'm not seeing the need for 2 steer axles since it's going to be very difficult to add much weight to them from the 5th wheel with it being so far back. Maybe I just don't understand how much weight your planning for but it seems to me an extra steerable tag axle or two would work better instead of a 2nd steer axle. Granted I have never driven a truck that grossed over 94k lbs so I may simply not understand what is needed for what your planning to haul. In any case I used to drive a Ford ctl 9000 and once you get used to the cab lean they ride great but boy a dry van looks like its gonna roll over on you in the west coast mirror in curves and turning corners. Brings back a lot of memories. One of them is the sound of the windshield wipers that are air actuated. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and for the video. Good luck with your build. I can't wait to see the finished dream truck.

They have steer axles that can act as a tag axle I would highly recommend you test drive one if you have it before you make that decision, Cabover is a rough enough ride as it is I know I own them. God I hate Cabinovers. Back in my day it was where you started out. My first Car was a 73 Mack one stacker with a 31'' bunk, a 237HP and 5speeds. All for 54mph downhill with a tailwind. LOL No AC in Aug. and 126` heat and I loved it.

That reminds me of when my #1 injector tip broke and cracked my head.
The oil in coolant, could be a separate problem. The oil cooler on cats are notorious for wearing out and cracking

You should have turned it off as soon as you heard the clattering going on. Someone got the head too hot. Pyrometer most likely not working as well. To let you know exhaust temperature. Got to keep exhaust down as well as water temps. Heads don't take that very well as you see here. Once the head is removed might as well tear it on down all the way. Too much blow by from the piston rings building pressure in the crankcase and the radiator due to head gasket and the cracks in the head. Brake saver cutting off the exhaust is not a good idea and can cause head problems on down the road; best to use 3 position jake brake assemblies for all diesel engines. Do not use brake saver because it builds internal head pressures that the head is not designed to hold. The engine is to be free flowing and never restricted in anyway. That is why we use Jake Brake Assemblies on long downgrades. Brake saver is a poor man's excuse for an engine braking system. Need to get your General Ham license and let others know you're a spotter so that you can report your locations and let others know the track of the tornados and which way they are going. If you are serious about being a storm-spotter. You keep getting that close to the tornadoes and your going to have a short history as a tornadoe tracker.

been workin on these engines 25+ years, the b model is an ok motor, C series is whatcha really want, yep water getting in the cylinder will not compress so thank god it went by the rings and into the crank or you can bend rods or crack pistons. you’re getting diesel fuel in the coolant from the piston pushing it in there thru the cracks on its compression stroke. you do have a mess on your hands, ya gotta get that all outa the system by using like purple power, remove the oil cooler it had to be cleaned it replaced get new oil in it asap and don’t be surprised if you need to do a few oil changes to get it allll out or pull the motor apart and clean it… that water will hide on low non draining areas and it takes forever to get it out of the engine just doing oil changes … it’s a process that’s for sure

Isn't there risk of lightning striking when you are walking around outside your vehicle?
That footage is crazy, I would be shitting my pants. They always told us to get out of the car and lay flat in a ditch, if you see a funnel come over.
