I’m a huge fan of Neil Young. But to say he doesn’t do it for the money is incorrect. Yes he plays for the fans and the love music, but he did buy a big ranch with money he made.
Arguably my favorite Neil song....I love the comment section....reminds me there are many people out there who are just as strongly influenced by what this man puts into his music. Thank you Mr. Young for not holding back, and letting us share in your passion for life.
Check out the new version by Joy O…(sp?). Just type in Out On the Weekend and you’ll find it. It’s literally even better than this one. Though I love a classic. I came here to hear the original live in this version. Joy’s (female) version is sung to a different/modified tune and it’s just brilliant. One of my favorite songs ever. And I don’t even know why. The words are so funny and disconnected but dang it’s awesome.
Pure as the driven snow. Like golden wheat blowing in the breeze. This is Neil for all he's worth, just the big old Martin, the harp, and that powerful but also delicate trademark voice. He is an inspiration for anyone that believes in the expression "It's all about the song." That condenser mike makes his guitar sound like a cannon too! I think he's the only artist that it's "impossible not to like." Mountains of respect I have for this guy.
"Impossible not to like." Lots of people say they don't like him because of his voice. Then you play something like this or Old Man and they can't help but change their mind. It's just so involving is the best way I can put it.
By the time I was 13 I had already suffered so much pain that I could relate to every note and word of this song. I had a friend and today at 65 I love him still.
I have seen Neil Young alone I have seen him with CS&N and I have seen him with Crazy Horse at the Fillmore East Woodstock69 and Carnegie Hall and he was brilliant every time. I have been into his music for about 50 years and he never disappoints. This is a beautiful song.
Never disappoints huh? Look up the concert in Louisville, Kentucky at the Freedom Hall and the riots he caused because he was too drunk to not piss himself..... A fuckin hells angel went on stage and chopped out two big lines of pure Colombian cocaine to wake him up and get him through the show..... He says in a piss drunk voice....... I’m not doing that shit and wipes it off of his Piano.... Not a thank you....., Not a no thank you..... Not a “you are a lifesaver” Nope...... the drunken bafoon tells a hells angel with gold star tats on each pectoral “fuck you” for a such a nice gesture, then proceeds to further disrespect the Angel by wasting his Cocaine.......... It was the last time he was ever too drunk to perform. The Angels Rioted, the Rest of the loving fans turned on their riot modes and destroyed everything. I love Neil Young. But one thing that's just as great is the fan base because from what I've seen everyone is kind and sustainable with one another. And I love reading stories of peoples "back-in-the-day-in-my-pickup-truck" and they make me wish i grew up then and not now. So I count you all as family and I'm proud to be apart of a loving fan base.
Josh Thomson I'm obsessed with music from this era and a lot of times wish I grew up in the 60's and 70's, but the fact is that will never happen. Yes, he start the song with a part of the rit, the original song in harvest begin with : THINK I'LL PACK IT IN AND... BUY A PICK UP...TAKE IT DOWN TO L.A. ---
it could also be because it was a work in progress? this performance was from 1971, a year before harvest was released, or maybe i'm looking too much into it! but awesome performance nonetheless!!
***** No I think you're right. In this, and the Massey Hall performance, he says he is trying new material. I find the Harvest version weird compare to this cause I've heard this so much more. I do love how they're his best songs and best performance (in my opinion at least). I've seen this full performance far too many times!!

But I'm so down today

See the lonely boy, out on the weekend

Can't relate to joy, he tries to speak and

She got pictures on the wall, they make me look up
From her big brass bed
Now I'm running down the road trying to stay up
Somewhere in her head
The woman I'm thinking of, she loved me all up
But I'm so down today
She's so fine, she's in my mind
I hear her callin'
See the lonely boy, out on the weekend
Trying to make it pay
Can't relate to joy, he tries to speak and
Can't begin to say, oh

Can't relate to joy,
he tries to speak and
Can't begin to say.
Think I'll pack it in
and buy a pick-up
Take it down to L.A.
Find a place to call my own
and try to fix up.
Start a brand new day.
The woman I'm thinking of,
she loved me all up
But I'm so down today
She's so fine, she's in my mind.
I hear her callin'.
See the lonely boy,
out on the weekend
Trying to make it pay.
Can't relate to joy,
he tries to speak and
Can't begin to say.
She got pictures on the wall,
they make me look up
From her big brass bed.
Now I'm running down the road
trying to stay up
Somewhere in her head.
The woman I'm thinking of,
she loved me all up
But I'm so down today
She's so fine she's in my mind.
I hear her callin'.
See the lonely boy,
out on the weekend
Trying to make it pay.
Can't relate to joy,
he tries to speak and
Can't begin to say.
ah thank you
He doesnt sing "now Im running down the Road" in this, it probably hasnt been written yet
Herlig! JEG VAR 21 ÅR I 1971. HERLIG!
A gem of a song, thought/direction! 🤔
One of my dads fav songs to play so Happy Fathers Day Eamo,x
I love this, my favourite NY song.
he and Gordon Lightfoot should have toured together back in the day. I don't care what Molson says, these 2 men are Canada's greatest exports.
Don't forget Bobby Orr
Justin Bieber as well, huge export from Canada
Bruce Cockburn aint to shabby a Canadian import either to add to the short list
Stan rogers replaces Gordon imo
@@rogerthoreson9741 nothing like a Cockburn import.
Neil is my hero when I need to get through tough times I want to play my guitar like Neil and start a cover band but I can't play
He forgot his lyrics and still killed it!
Maybe he didn't feel that line at the time :)
Yes, he start the song with a part of the rit, the original song in harvest begin with : THINK I'LL PACK IT IN AND... BUY A PICK UP...TAKE IT DOWN TO L.A. ---
But it's however a wonderful song...
it could also be because it was a work in progress? this performance was from 1971, a year before harvest was released, or maybe i'm looking too much into it! but awesome performance nonetheless!!
***** No I think you're right. In this, and the Massey Hall performance, he says he is trying new material. I find the Harvest version weird compare to this cause I've heard this so much more.
I do love how they're his best songs and best performance (in my opinion at least). I've seen this full performance far too many times!!
One of the most influencer on my music. Great musician.
I saw Neil do an acoustic set in Stratfield Conn. at Woodstock in 69' at the Fillmore East in 69' at the Capitol Theater in 70' and at Carnegie Hall in the mid 70's and every time he was no less than amazing. He is one of the all time greats.
Thanks a million!
I love Harvest.
Cheers!
I love the way Neil Young plays the harp, sings, plays guitar with his awesome music.
Sums up my life right now.
honestly, not sure this ins't the greatest song ever by the greatest star. that might be going overboard, but damn, just love him so much, and love him especially when he is singing this.
All the best music comes out of the heart.
Love this album. Just discovered it at 39...
Story of my life at 55 ... Thank you Neil and for the post of this vid as well! Playin' this tune for 42 years myself - love it.
Erstaunlich das sich die Musik aus meiner Jugendzeit bis heute gehalten hat,ist eben Hand gemacht.
