Today is a very emotional day for me. I just booked a round trip to LA, from the Midwest... 2300 miles...to go to my 50th High School Reunion at Santa Monica High School... a block and a half away from Santa Monica Bay, and the beautiful Pacific Blue Ocean. My girlfriend...i.e., Common Wife of 7 years...saw Neil Young in 1974 at Des Moines Veterans Arena...during his Time Fades Away Tour. Neil performed Journey Through the Past on piano...solo, without Crazy Horse as backup band. When I bought my ticket to go back home, on a journey thru my past, I had to hear Neil sing it. Thank God for Neil Young, and his musical genius!!
I agree. I just found some of these old songs (from way before i was even born) and im loving these live shows (theyre 100 times better than the album tracks imo). He has such a genuine way of singing/performing live. Love it
This song makes me remember my brother. He took his life almost 23 years ago. He loved Neil Young. Today is Terry's birthday and I'm going through my own Journey Through the Past. I love you brother and I miss you so...
When the winter rains come pourin' down On that new home of mine, Will you think of me and wonder if I'm fine? Will your restless heart come back to mine On a journey thru the past. Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind? Now I'm going back to Canada On a journey thru the past And I won't be back till February comes I will stay with you if you'll stay with me, Said the fiddler to the drum, And we'll keep good time on a journey thru the past. When the winter rains come pourin' down On that new home of mine, Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind? Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?
I have always loved this song, but 2019 I lost my little brother, my mother has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and a good friend passed away all withing a couple weeks this song is for you Alvin Jr, Mad Jack Adams, I love you mom! this song brought me tears and hope all at the same time....peace Neil and thank you for all the years of beautiful music!
Returning to the old home, it was still there. Though everything had changed, this song burst through my heart in the garden. This sure have changed yet this song remains as a gentle reminder of fondest times. Loved how this felt in Inherent Vice. Just wonderful Neil, thank you ♥️
This song evokes the sharpest emotions. I'm just discovering Young's genius recently, and I have to say I'm dumbfounded. This album will live for all-time.
My older brother was a huge Neil Young fan. I was only a small kid when this was out but remember it well. Neil became part of the soundtrack of my life. I’ve loved his music for many years. This reminds me of a time when I was listening to music from the other side of the world and wondering about a place called Canada. I later made my own journeys in Canada, spent some time in Winnipeg, where Neil grew up. I asked my Winnipeg friends what Neil was known for locally. Riding a white horse naked through the corridors of his high school I was told. That made him a local legend. Now a legend to the world. Rock on Neil. Long may you run.
"I will stay with you if you'll stay with me, Said the fiddler to the drum, And we'll have good time on a journey thru the past. When the winter rains come pourin' down On that new home of mine, Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind? Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind"? Love me!
it always reminds me of Scotland and our and Neil's Scottish ancestors who settled in Canada during the 18th and 19th centuries; fine people they were.
@Thomas Tauchert because Neil hates CDs lol so has mostly refused to issue his music on them. He's currently rereleasing a lot of his old stuff remastered on vinyl though if you're a vinyl person
I have a feeling Neil Young, having a rough childhood, abandoned by a father but raised by a mother, I always felt this was partly to her. Especially when he had diabetes 1.
I'm always amazed and so eternally grateful for this brilliant eccentric man. Thank you Neil. You know the words in my heart. Someday I will meet you and ask you how you've known all the songs that contain our souls' story
"My pockets always use to have holes in them and I never, you know......eh, that's a line, forget that one" - Caught it Neil, the line that is, an old Danny Whitten song.
When the winter rains come pourin' down On that new home of mine Will you think of me and wonder if I'm fine? Will your restless heart come back to mine On a journey through the past? Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind? Neil could have gone the way of so many other musicians before him. But he's still here. And i thank god for that. i feel like he just knows what it's all about. Fame, drugs and bullshit never got him, he just keeps rambling on, doing what he does. He's one of the greatest poets i know of, and if at some point he's never in my eyes again, he'll still be on my mind.
I am 33 years old and stumbled upon this song by chance this evening. I don’t think I have ever heard such a beautiful song.
Don't be shy...get searching for Neil, you won't be disappointed
Neil at piano in 1971,is gold…
Without a doubt the song is pure genius but the first verse is the most beautiful thing ever put to music
Don't think I ever heard anything as beautiful as this.
I have to agree
Same. But except all the other things he does^^
😢 ❤️
Right on, you are right on!
Me too

Every song from this 1971 BBC session has stood the test of time. Says it all.
This and his Massey hall album
Neil Young's songs always sound so much better when he's performing in front of an audience.

Will i still be in your eyes and on your mind
his soul always pours out when he performs
When the winter rains
come pourin' down
On that new home of mine,
Will you think of me
and wonder if I'm fine?
Will your restless heart
come back to mine
On a journey thru the past.
Will I still be in your eyes

Who asked you?

Many of Neil's song leave me speechless, but this song just hits me at a higher level. Haunting and simply beautiful.
Heard this thanks to Inherent Vice. Neil Young is a poet artist of the highest caliber and we should appreciate him while he's still here.
Best thing about the film.
The film is a masterpiece and so is this song.

Danny Daigle..1972...I've never forgot you.
This song evokes the sharpest emotions. I'm just discovering Young's genius recently, and I have to say I'm dumbfounded. This album will live for all-time.
Damn this reminds me of being a little boy , sitting in the kitchen with my father and uncle and dad's friends , listening to his vinyl collection.
Every second is a moment in the past.
One of Neil's best songs. ✌️

Canada ought to use this song for tourism, it makes you want to be there so bad
We can't know the wrong turns we took, until we look back . . . much later ~ such sorrow at times ~
"I will stay with you
if you'll stay with me,
Said the fiddler to the drum,
And we'll have good time
on a journey thru the past.

I mean I did know the song before the movie, but ya know, whatever...
The other version by far is better. The harmonica just Marys the song together

If there was ever a song about sentimentalism, this is it.
Such a bummer that "Time Fades Away" will never be released on CD. A stunning album.
You can buy "Time Fades Away" as WAV or FLAC download on Qobuz since Nov 2016
@Thomas Tauchert because Neil hates CDs lol so has mostly refused to issue his music on them. He's currently rereleasing a lot of his old stuff remastered on vinyl though if you're a vinyl person

Would have loved to have been there. Often lost in the conversation is Neil's ability with the piano.
Me an my dad used to sing this when I was young
"My pockets always use to have holes in them and I never, you know......eh, that's a line, forget that one" - Caught it Neil, the line that is, an old Danny Whitten song.

she's gone, sportello, she's gone...

Danny Daigle- Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?
He "just started playing this thing". so funny given how iconic his harmonica playing is on his acoustic sound for the next 50 years
The song, that he is trying to start with his harmonica selection is btw called "Heart of Gold"...
Unexpectedly, Neil can play the piano.
Muchas gracias Fede, me gustó mucho ese video y música, no lo conocía. beso
