    Rule 1: Only ever eat microwave meals. No washing up. You save water and electricity., and no wasted food.
    Rule 2: Keep your carpets clean by rolling them up and storing them in the garage. They stay like new for years.
    Rule 3. Never ride a bicycle underwater.

    Forgive me for the criticism of an otherwise very helpful video, but:
    I'm not familiar with a "self cleaning" function on a blender, but even if yours has one, if your blender has a screw-on gasket and blade assembly, please, for the love of God, take it apart to wash. Blending soap in it without taking it apart leaves you with a blender that's nice and clean inside, but NOT clean in-between the gasket assembly. . *Especially* with milk residue. If that sounds like nonsense to you just take your blade assembly apart after using your blender and have a look at the crap that gets trapped between the cup and the gasket, and between the gasket and the blade assembly. Don't be surprised if the gunk is black, too. Sure it's a pain in the ass to take it apart and wash it, and that's a part of why you don't use your blender very often, but you know what solves that? An immersion blender. Get one with a larger motor and it can handle ice cubes for making drinks like a regular blender, but with a fraction of the cleanup. Takes up way less space in your cabinet, too.

    Hi James,
    Thanks for the great hacks. I just tried out the microwave cleaning hack - it needed 10 minutes, then everything came right off! I'm going to make some of that slime today. Did you try it to clean the blinds? I hate cleaning blinds, so I hardly do it except to take them off and do them in the yard. Your method forthat will be tested here too, though one strip at a time looks tedious. :)

    Never thought to use parchment paper on pans. That was awesome! I hate cleaning dishes, so I really appreciate this one. I've always used baking soda on carpets, but never thought of using the cheese top on the mason jar, which would make it spread out better...so thanks! Lots of great ideas here.

    • @fig4159
      @fig4159 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      tessamersus I'm glad it worked for you! Think about it: they're all made out of different types of ceramics: dentures, toilets, sinks, tubs, floor tile...and if you don't like minty fresh, you can just add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the unflavored kind!

    • @tessarix
      @tessarix 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Just an awful chore made super easy and sweet smelling! Next mountain to climb: teach the hubby to clean the toilet every week or less, as needed. LOL!Now if I could just get him to put the darn lid down after he's finished with the toilet. I'm too embarrassed to admit that I have stumbled into the dark bathroom and "fallen in" way more than anyone should do in a lifetime. He pretends he doesn't hear my screams. Nobody wants to fall in at 2:15 in the morning, but at least it's clean lol!

      You know what I do when my eggs stick to the pan....? I go into my parents bedroom....to my dads side of the bed. I pull out his Glock 9mm from between the mattresses and put it to my temple. I find if Im really fast I can squeeze off 3 rounds. This works great because your skull cavity should be completely vacant of grey matter by the third shot......and that means no pain.....yaaaaaaa. Of Course motor skills are going to take a hard hit after the first hollow point so you really have to concentrate.

    I used to teach a dance class, a few miles away, so I had to get the bus. Anyway, I was told a woman was looking for someone to clean her flat a few hours a week. This was ideal, as I was in the area and she paid really well. Just her and her teenage son there. They were pretty messy, but I didnt care. But the bathroom was bad... I hate doing my own bathroom cos of my boyfriend! But this was something else!!...There was so much hair in the plug hole I couldnt shift it. I tried everything. In the end I used a cork screw, the type where the hanldes lift up as you turn it. And out it came! Just the grossest thing

      I used to clean my mother's old style blinds (wide blades with the wide straps that she called "Venetian blinds") by taking them down and putting them in the tub with soapy water and vinegar (keeping the header part with the mechanism propped up out of the water). Let them soak about 20 minutes and then use a hand dust broom (part of a dust pan set) to scrub the blind slats and the fabric straps. This was for deep cleaning them at a time when both of my folks smoked.

    • @kingmichele27
      @kingmichele27 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      GraeMatterz, much obliged for the advice. No less than 10 sets of blinds to clean (Yes, some igit used them in e'ry room). There are strings & straps to contend w/... The heifer allowed children to run amok & mucked up same w/ grime & food. Would have preferred they had smoked....
      Meanwhile, contemplating a combo of what Miss Tessamersus & yourself advised whilst trying not to lay out curses on the manufacturers of said blinds. Thx!

      I would use a jar - recycle any glass jar. Vinegar is a mild acid, plus citrus acid - both are going to erode the plastic bowl. Just as I always buy a glass lemon squeezer - never plastic.

      Whether the glass is hot or cold, water with a temperature that's too different from the glass applied to a specific area of the glass will break it, because the conduction of heat in glass is not quick enough to adjust to the increased molecule activity (if you applied hot water) or decreased (if cold water). As long as the hot/cold water is spread over a big enough area of the glass, it won't break it.

      Ya, I'm not going to carry a huge potfull of boiling water around, it'd be easier to fill the sink w/ hot soapy water b4 dinner, rinse plates etc. right after dinner then put items in the water. Or clean as you go for the bigger stuff.

    I used to do the bowl in the microwave method but now I add essential oil to a wet papertowel in microwave and run it for two mins then wipe down. The reasons- 1. No dirty bowl afterwards 2. easy to wipe just with the papertowel. 3- My husband and kids are popcorn lovers so the essential oil removes any leftover odours & 4- if there is anything leftover and hard on the glass like cheese the papertowel soaks and pretty much boils it off :)

    James, I loved your video and I even learned something new. BUT there is an even more important 'life hack' I grew up knowing that seems to have been lost along the way. That is you don't 'bribe' your children to help with the chores. Everyone eats and dirties dishes. Everyone uses the bathroom. Everyone wears clothes. Chores are every family member's responsibility and they are given/assigned according to each person's abilities. It's easy to tell which young adults grew up doing chores because they're usually far more mature than their peers.

      yep, I'm lucky have a double sink so I clog one up with a stopper and fill with hot water and few drops of dishsoap then fill with dirty dishes...later even if the water got cold it still done its purpose by not allowing the food to dry up and actually loosen all of it when I'm ready to wash it...ps make sure to dry with dish towel if using a rack (this makes drying time a snap and avoids water spots too). ✔️

      I'm going to refer you to my previous statement, LITERALLY EVERYTHING IS A CHEMICAL. Just google what the chemical formula for vinegar is, oop, here it is! CH3COOH, saved you a search. And yes, yogurt is made of chemicals because as mentioned, literally everything is made up of a chemical formula.

    I bought a cereal container from Dollar Tree with the flip lid and filled it with diatomaceous earth. Working in layers, I added both lemongrass and orange essential oil, shaking as I made each layer. When it's time to vacuum, I sprinkle that on the carpets and vacuum. The diatomaceous earth is excellent at killing bugs, deodorizing, etc. Because we have many uses for diatomaceous earth, I have large bags of it around the house. Boom! Awesome hacks. TFS!!

      Iheart2cook How long do you leave it on the carpet, and does it help with pet smells? It sounds like something I'd use during the summer when ants come around. ☺

    • @FurnitureFan
      @FurnitureFan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Um... Diatomaceous earth isn't even soluble, because it's powdered rock. Like pumice. It's mildly abrasive. So it will wear your carpet down faster.

    • @lafayette1982
      @lafayette1982 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      only if you drink the water after - the concern is that plastic bits come off in the water but there again he's using a microwave safe bowl. This mostly applies to disposable bottles of water that people leave in the sun. As long as he throws the water away down the sink it's fine.

    i just have to say that the blender hack is acctually not good. my mother in law does this to clean hers and every time I go to use it, I take it apart to really clean it because EVERY time I open it it, there is mold inside. so I really do NOT suggest that one, but the others are spot on.

    • @pppetra
      @pppetra 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I do clean it this way. I also dry the blender with a cloth an i never close the lid so moisture can escape.

    • @buddhistslacker
      @buddhistslacker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @sweetcanada17
      @sweetcanada17 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ania Hayat - I actually take my blender apart and wash it in the dishwasher. And that gets it clean.
      My MIL has a blender like the one in this video, and every time I want to use it it has a thin and disgusting film of whatever mystery crap in the inside. She only does the "blending clean" as shown in this video. I prefer the dishwasher.

    • @katiekat4457
      @katiekat4457 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Linda Liriel It is super wasteful and not cost effective. But I am the only one who noticed that he barely got egg cooked and the stuff was burning and not easy to remove. My suggestion is common sense. If you're cooking an egg use a tiny frying pan. Also just rinse your blender well with water. Not need to make a soapy mesh.

    • @jaytee2642
      @jaytee2642 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      But Katie, rinsing the blender with plain water would be comparable to washing your dishes in a basin of plain water. You need detergent to loosen and remove food residue adequately.

      @katiekat4457 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jay Tee It hasn't adhered to anything if you did it right after. It's also not the same as it sitting in a basin of plain water. Because that means all the food, germs, and stuff is sitting in the water with it too and slowly growing. That's gross. If you rinse it right away everything goes right down the drain right then and there. If a tiny piece of strawberry stuck to the top then just use your finger to take it off. Not a sponge. Sponges are full of germs. If you use your sponge then you definitely better use soap. Otherwise the current of water will effectively clean it just fine as long as you do it right after you are done.

    Great tips!!! Adding to the multiple bag in the trash can... I put a few layer of newspaper covering the bottom. This will prevent dirty liquid leaks to get to the bottom making it easier to clean your trash can interior.
    I add newspaper on top of my kitchen cabinets. They are not visible and makes it easy to clean accumulated dust.
    I put fabric softener on the bottom of my clothes drawers. My cloths always smell great.

    After watching this I decided to give some of them a try, I poured boiling water into the plastic garbage and that worked great to clean it out. instead of layering the bags... just adding a bunch to the bottom is much easier. I did the microwave thing and that worked good, I have a 16 year old and have never cleaned the inside before so it got pretty bad... Thanks, Great video. Gonna try the Shaving cream thing too
