I love that you showed what you put on the inside of your card! Hardly anyone seems to show this in their videos. This is one of my biggest struggles with card making. I can make a gorgeous card front but then I have trouble figuring out what to stamp on the inside. Great tips! Your card is gorgeous, too!
Your card is so pretty Kari. Its nice to have alternatives to the expensive products where ever possible as some of us cannot afford them but still want to achieve the look. TFS!
thanks for sharing what a fab idea .......im useless at blending with the blending tools but with your technique i cant wait to give it ago ......i also like the fact that you mentioned using other dye pads to blend now i know my dye pads wont go to waste thanks again
I bought several of these ELF brushes in a couple different sizes at Walmart about 2 or 3 years ago when they were $1.00. Even now at $2.00 it's still a great buy. I originally bought them to use with chalks and chalk inks. But then when I used the Tim Holtz rectangle blending sponges (before the round ones came out) I just couldn't get a good blend. So I gave my cheap brushes a try and Wolah! They give a great soft blend and I have been using them ever since. I'm so glad other people are using these brushes because it's such an inexpensive solution to blending. By the way, the colors you used on your card are really pretty especially with that pop of black.
Thank you so much for sharing this!!!! I am currently trying to rebuild my craft supplies after I lost everything in a house fire last year and on a very limited income as I was diagnosed with cancer a month after the fire so tips like this help tremendously! I cannot wait to be able to try this technique when I have the supplies!! hugs!
I hate that people put a thumbs down on a video like this. I really enjoyed it and realized I have a bunch of cosmetic brushes so I don't even have to go shopping. Thank you.
So glad you did this video! Jennifer McGuire has done several videos featuring the Clarity brushes, but I can't afford to spend that much on brushes! lol I've been wondering about an alternative, and I'm really happy to see that a cheap makeup brush will achieve the same result as the Clarity brushes. Thank you for sharing!
I was able to find the makeup brushes at my local dollar store and it's feels so satisfying to find an inexpensive alternative that gives you the same results as a much more expensive crafting tool. I'm sure the clarity brushes are wonderful, but too spendy. And I prefer the more compact size of makeup brushes.
I just bought a bunch of makeup brushes through my Wish app on my phone with the very same intention of trying them for blending! This turned out to be absolutely beautiful.Thank you for sharing this.
I’ve used make-up brushes lots of times. Elf is sold at the Dollar Tree. You can get all sizes & it does save loads of money. You can also use cheap eye shadows & just use a fixative to make it permanent. Just another cheap trick. I haven’t used the Oxide inks yet but can’t wait to try them. I hear nothing but good things about them.
Fabulous idea! I just bought some brushes to try to use but I may just try to find some of those makeup brushes to add to my brushes. The look is so soft and pretty.
So pretty. Love the technique. I wanted to let you know that if you live where there is a dollar store they usually carry makeup brushes for a dollar and they work great.
So glad I discovered this before buying the 'spensive brushes! I think target also sells the elf brand. Thank you for showing this! Love love love the results way better than the blending tool from Holtz!
Hi Kari!! Thanks for doing this video!! I did purchase some of the clarity brushes and I love them but they are really expensive. But it looks like your brush done just as good if not better!! The blending you got looked amazing!! I really appreciate you sharing this...I'll check out Laurie's video now!! 🦋
What a great idea and your blending is fabulous. I have one set of Clarity brushes but I am going to pick up a few of these makeup brushes, much more cost effective. I finally received my Distress Oxide ink pads yesterday and I am having so much fun playing with them. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the video. I saw Laurie's IG and bought some of these on Amazon. I have the Clarity brushes and actually get better results with these make-up brushes. I wish I had tried this before I bought the other ones.
Very cool tip with those $2 make up brushes. I use several ELF brushes for my actual makeup, so I'll have to grab this one for my craft room! Gorgeous card!
This was very helpful. I'd been considering a shaving brush, and still wonder whether those are basically the same thing. This, however, is the cheaper way to go for those who don't have an old shaver sitting around. Thanks!
Great tutorial! :) I have used make up brushes this way for a while now, it works out great! :) I thought of the idea when everybody started to make videos with the Clarity brushes... Didn't have the opportunity or the money to buy those so went for the make up brushes instead! Hugs from Sweden!
so you can use makup brushes to do these techniques!!! I was thinking about doing that a bunch of times already! you have confirmed that it works just the same way! Thank you!
Aghhh!! I just bought two at the Scrapbook Expo earlier today!! They are double ended, so I get four surfaces, but still!!! Thank you SO much for this tip!! Now I know!
I have also used makeup brushes with good luck. I enjoy your tutorials and have watched many. I am so sorry that I had not subscribed until now.. Nice card. Love the color combinations you used, Kari.
Gorgeous card, Kari! I saw Laurie's video and thought it was a great idea too. Love to see how well the brush worked on your card. Although I have the clarity brushes, I may just have to make an order with Elf! Thank you for sharing, my friend! :)
love it! I had wondered about makeup brushes too! I have the Judkins color dusters that have very stiff bristles. They work ok but shed a lot. I actually use an elf brush for my face powder and it's pretty decent for how cheap it is.
I bought Elf brushes today because I had heard about this. So glad I found your video and can see how lovely the card came out. I cannot wait to try my brushes now. This saved me a LOT of money! TFS Oh-- and I am a new subbie to your channel so I will be looking about.
I can never get blending techniques to work! The makeup brushes and ink dusters don’t pick up enough ink, and even when I do manage to pick up enough with a blending tool, the colour barely shows up at all. I’m always disappointed so I’ve given up on ink blending.
Neat idea to use make up brushes! I never would have thought of that. Kari, I noticed that the lids of your distress ink cubes flip open. Did you do something to make them stay attached? If so, could you share? I am forever misplacing them or putting the wrong lid on the wrong ink pad. Thanks!
msilverest Yes! Sure did, all I did was place a piece of (in my case) Micropore tape on the back side to create a hinge. I will do a Quick Tip video soon showcasing this! 😉
Great tutorial and I am going to give it a try. Can you tell me the company that sells the leaf die that you used. You said in your video, but I could not understand it. thanks for sharing. Linda D.
Thank you for this video. I winder if you could answer a question for me? I have tried using a make up brush to blend ( it was not the "Elf" brand). and I was getting 'brush stroke" marks as I brushed onto my cardstock. Don't know if I was holding the make up brush incorrectly or if I was too heavy handed. I will give your technique a try. Thank you!
I'm not Kari, but my guess is, too much ink. If you start off the card/paper and then bring your brush (or sponge) to the paper, it cuts down on marks from your tool.
I saw Laurie's video a while back, and got a couple of makeup brushes to try. This does work, but I tend to get some fine dark lines in my blending. Kind of like tiny little streaks. I can't figure out what I might be doing wrong. I use a light hand, & try to ink up the brush well. I may just have to keep working at it. I was hoping, before I watched your video, that I could get a better idea what might be going on, but you seemed to get a smooth blend from the get-go. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for sharing this! :)
What really helped me I think its "priming" the brush...getting some ink on it and then tapping off a few times repeating that process. Maybe give that a shot and see how it works for you. Let me know how it goes.
Love your videos, I just bought the zig markers and was wondering for the zig and distress do you recommend the Bristol or the Tim Holtz watercolor papers? I would assume when using water pens the watercolor paper but I saw you using the Bristol for coloring using stamps. I have to order them because I cannot get ranger or Tim Holtz here in Hungary but I can get the Bristol. Thanks for your help.
Heather H between the Tum Holtz or Bristol for Zig markers, I'd choose Bristol. But I'm about to try the Canson XL as that's what Amy R (Prairie Paper and Ink) uses and she loves it.
When I'm clicking on your link's video, here's what I got : th-cam.com/users/userwatch?feature=iv&src_vid=HmXeeAtkM2Q&annotation_id=video%3A690df909-4127-401f-8325-d01a9e7e4b08
This is a nice technique, and you did a wonderful job on the video. However, this is not a new technique discovered by your friend. For years folks like me have been using dollar store makeup brushes and sponges instead of the more expensive craft tool counterparts. Good for you and your friend for making such a nice video, though. That is something I would not be able to do, and I appreciate you for your hard work and generosity.
I love that you showed what you put on the inside of your card! Hardly anyone seems to show this in their videos. This is one of my biggest struggles with card making. I can make a gorgeous card front but then I have trouble figuring out what to stamp on the inside.
Great tips! Your card is gorgeous, too!
This looks so much easier than using the blending tools for those of us with dexterity/pain issues!
I went and purchased this brush and it does work nice. So glad you all discovered this.
Thank you! Very pretty card. I'm re-watching some of your older videos while I patiently wait for you to do new ones 💙❤️

I've never understood the "thumbs down" feature of TH-cam - thank you for watching my videos!
I was wondering about those makeup brushes. Glad to see them working the way I'd want them to.

My pleasure! I can't take all the credit as mentioned in the video, but happy just the same there is another alternative!

Thank you for this great idea. The blending brushes for distress inks are so expensive. But these that you show do just as well. Kisses to you!
Hi Kari, I do this too! Thanks for sharing with us! Lovely card!
So pretty. Love the technique. I wanted to let you know that if you live where there is a dollar store they usually carry makeup brushes for a dollar and they work great.
That turned out really pretty! Thanks for the technique & the video!
I'm so glad you tried this out! I was just wondering the other day if makeup brushes would work for this technique. Beautiful card!!!
Nice! I going to try this brush technique. I like how soft the colors appear on the paper. TFS!
So glad I discovered this before buying the 'spensive brushes! I think target also sells the elf brand. Thank you for showing this! Love love love the results way better than the blending tool from Holtz!

Yes - it was awesome to get these results from this make up brush!
Aghhh!! I just bought two at the Scrapbook Expo earlier today!! They are double ended, so I get four surfaces, but still!!! Thank you SO much for this tip!! Now I know!
Thnk you so much...I was searching from last 5hrs for such a video of replacement to expensive sponges.Really thank you so much..
Thank you for sharing that pretty background technique. Love to see what you are up to. 😍
I tried it too with a dollar store makeup brush!! It does work.
I've been using these as well. Work great and very cost effective.
Oh my gosh! This is brilliant! Great card!
Thank you! Was so happy to see this; Thank you for sharing it! :)
Gorgeous card! I love your leaf cluster and I think I may have to re-consider the Oxide inks :)
Thanks for another great video, Kari!
This is ingenious ✨
I have also used makeup brushes with good luck. I enjoy your tutorials and have watched many. I am so sorry that I had not subscribed until now.. Nice card. Love the color combinations you used, Kari.
Wow! Wish I knew about these make-up brushes for blending before I spent it on the Ink Duster brushes by Inkylicious. TFS!
excellent technique

You don't need to wash the brush in between color? Thanks!
I have been using men's shaving brushes with equal success - so much cheaper than the dedicated brush sets.
I bought Elf brushes today because I had heard about this. So glad I found your video and can see how lovely the card came out. I cannot wait to try my brushes now. This saved me a LOT of money! TFS Oh-- and I am a new subbie to your channel so I will be looking about.
Thanks so much for enjoying the video and subscribing! It means a lot!
Very nice ! Thanks for the tip, will certainly try it.
wow!very good and special!
What was the thing called that you measured the actual card with and scored it?.
Gorgeous card x
Great idea! Can't wait to try this and I'll be casing this design! Tyfs

I'm so glad I saw this before I invested I the brushes. They were on my Wish List. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic, I'm also in a budget and this idea is great! Thanks for sharing!
Kari, What paper do you find best to blend on? Thank you.
Thank you for the great tip. The brushes are a great idea. And your blending was to Perfection!! Also I"m a subscriber to your channel

Job well done!! Love you card design and Thanks for sharing this huge money saving tip!
Thank you so much for this video. Wonderful job and gorgeous outcome! :-)
Thank you so much for this video, very helpful, I'm on my way to buy some Elf brushes now!!☺️☺️☺️
Great tutorial and I am going to give it a try. Can you tell me the company that sells the leaf die that you used. You said in your video, but I could not understand it. thanks for sharing.
Linda D.
Linda Duensing yes, it's the Simon Says Stamp Clustered Leaves Die. I have it linked in the description box with the supplies.
Thanks Kari. I apologize. I did not scroll down far enough to see the list of supplies.
Linda D.
great idea! do you know which ink you use to refill the Versafine Ink Pad?
Mary McCann I think they have a reinker for this pad.
They also sell e.l.f brushes at target :)

Awesome!

Fun video, thanks! Too bad that I have to delete it because I got the Hubs to buy me the Clarity brushes for holidays (Grin).
Cards Classic or Cute 😂😂😂
Great tip!
This is super Kari!
You can get several of those Elf brushes at the Dollar Tree, so that way you can try the brushes out without a lot of cost. :)
Great idea thank you looks great
Love it thank you!
Nice! I would clean my Brush on a art journal page. So you dont spill so mutch inkt!
Thanks for the tip!
LOVE LOVE!! thank you for the tip!
What happened to Laurie's TH-cam channel ??
margessw not sure what you mean. Looks like it's still there to me. The link I have to her video still works.

I ordered my make up brushes on Ebay and I got them from China for $1.00 a piece :) TFS
ce serait plus pratique avec des grands pads d encre
Love saving money!
