Toyota repeatedly stated that they didn't believe in EVs. So why would anyone invest their money into an over-priced EV from them? They could stop production with the first generation and you'd be stuck with an expensive one-off no one would want.
Do the math, add in taxes, fees and interstate, the Tesla will always be more expensive because all of those discounts are applied BEFORE the taxes . The taxes, interest and fees wipe out everything. Base model 3 with $7500 down on 84 months is over $700 a month. It seems with the drop in battery prices the legacy automakers are passing part of the savings onto the consumer, just not by lowering the ticket prices that reflect the actual level of cost involved. Rather they are seeking to do virtually anything to keep their EV prices high, so as not to impact ICE sales nor erode their efforts in raising car prices over the years. Hence pricing favours discounts and interest rate deals rarther than sizeable reductions in the price of the car.

In the US Toyota sold 9,329 bZ4X in 2023 and will sell even more this year. That's bad news because those buyers are Toyota fans, not new to the brand customers. So it's a double loss for Toyota. Not only do they not make a profit on the bZ4X they also lose one sale of a profitable tailpipe car.

By the way similar discount in EU. We have 7500 Euro discounts on BZ4X. The model is dated. EVs change fast. I looked at the Kia Nero - it is more expensive than the BZ4X and much much worse and is not even very old. Kia Nero is 60KWh for 55K Euro with very little range. I think your stats on BZ4X were a bit too pessimistic. It has 75 or 80kwh and may be 500 km range so like 300 miles. Price on BZ4X with discount is kind of ok for the class. The specs are mostly ok. 150 kwh is not bad for Europe. I do not like the shape of the car and the styling. I do not like SUVs. SUVs are awful and very boring these days Toyota need to sell BZ3 and the related models they showed last autumn. I would hop on BZ3C if priced well and speced decently.. I do not want SUV and BZ3C is probably the most SUV I would go. Note EV3 is a bit bigger battery and noticeably lower price even compared to BZ4X with discount...so BZ4X not quite there....and the Niro is like half of what Ev3 is in every aspect for much higher price.
Here is another reason for the poor sales..Toyota is half hearted into the EVs, if it was up to them they would stop producing EVs and PHED all together but again they want to go with the trend and not be left behind. Crazily undecided.
Legacy auto is suffering from denial and fighting tooth and claw to stop change. So they produce substandard cars and sell them at a price that will not sell. Meanwhile China has now signed more free trade agreements with countries in South America giving their car brands a marketplace of 3 billion people who make less than US$5k a month on average. The Chinese care makers have built car factories in South Africa and are now buying car plants of the legacy car makers. So I'm expecting Chinese cars to get both a lot cheaper and higher spec while legacy auto keeps putting up prices and lowering spec.

Now that Trump is going to dump EV mandates and slapping tariffs on China, things are looking up for legacy auto makers. Expect demand for all 3 power plants PHEV, Hybrids and ICE sales to soar in the USA . Individual states such as California and couple of other blue states will likely continue with mandates to the detriment of local dealerships and new car sales. There will be a roaring trade of ICE vehicles bought in other states and driven/sold back into the blue states as there is no restrictions on second hand ICE vehicles. (for now)
The USA is not the world and going backwards will condemn the US economically. Basically the US is making the same mistake Britain made in the 19th century.
Bad experience with VW? In a brand's product lineup as large as Toyota's or VW's, it is really dependent on what TYPE of car you purchase - Petrol or Diesel, Manual or Auto, even down to year model. I got a Golf in 2015 from new, petrol and manual transmission, gee it's been a good car, saved me heaps of money (rideshare car, getting to & from work, economical per unit driven) and reliable as! Even with EV's on the horizon, there is still a usage case for the car that you already have, no payments on, cheap to run, all familiar mechanicals so a full service is something one can do for themselves.
America's reputation has become irreversably weakened globally and I wouldn't be caught dead with a vehicle made over there. Also they have no access to Gallium, which means their fast charge ability is going to be limited once their current stock of GaAs mosfets runs dry. Further to that, they've cut off their access to new battery tech coming out of China and lack the ability to make their own due to a lack of synthetic graphite and technological ability. So yeah, that particular empire is dying along with the long term availability, parts and support of their EV's.
Let's see. The Model 3 RWD long range is 42,000..and gets 363 miles range. Really? How about Toyota raising the mileage range for the BZ4X?? Sorry Toyota, thanks, but no thanks!
remember they were a major investor in telsa then sold their stake because cultures didnt align. new company ran like a start up vs the old bloated and old guys too rigid and think they know everytihing.
Went and looked at a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4 wheel drive truck The dealership says they want 9000.00 For it …. I told them they were fucking crazy and I’d walk 100 miles to another place before I’d ever pay them 9000.00 for a truck with 362,000 miles And over 15 years old …. Are these people insane ?
The chickens are finally coming home to roost at Toyota. 🐔 🐔 🐔 🐔 Declining quality, severe recalls, catastrophically defective turbo V6 and Corolla GR engines, failing transmissions, poorly-engineered BEVs and a recent scandal involving falsification of safety certification data. I'm not sure Toyota's lawyers or its prodigious global advertising budget can save it from this downward spiral this time.
Ship to Africa and sell the cars via a SCRATCH-OFF lottery. You want $50,000.00 for the car..then issue 50,000 Scratch off tickets at $2.10 a piece. Toyota could create the SCRATCH OFF tickets themselves then work with African leaders to sell the tickets. Toyota could move 2,500 cars aday.

Remember Australia is the dumping ground for out of date dinasaur junk Cars on ya Toyota still at the same game with expensive piece of XLE EV....?
350km range?? no wonder no one wants it
Some people walk into a brick wall! Would never buy that or a VW!
Toyota and Samsung are now the same. They lack Innovation 😂
Apple too. Just look at their phones. Basically the same year after year.
Toyota = FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL
America's reputation has become irreversably weakened globally and I wouldn't be caught dead with a vehicle made over there. Also they have no access to Gallium, which means their fast charge ability is going to be limited once their current stock of GaAs mosfets runs dry. Further to that, they've cut off their access to new battery tech coming out of China and lack the ability to make their own due to a lack of synthetic graphite and technological ability. So yeah, that particular empire is dying along with the long term availability, parts and support of their EV's.
Why would anyone consider the busy forks when the Model Y exists?
Even the VW and Ford is better than the Busy Forks
@@cerverg No.
@@Rizzler420-uh4yd I guess it for those Toyota addicts.
Tesla? I won't buy anything related to that asshole Musk.
I won't buy a Tesla just because Musk profits from it.
this is first time I even seen this car
Let's see. The Model 3 RWD long range is 42,000..and gets 363 miles range. Really? How about Toyota raising the mileage range for the BZ4X?? Sorry Toyota, thanks, but no thanks!
I rode in it once as a taxi. It looks odd inside.why would anyone want to buy an ugly car for such price.
Because they’re ugly. And to top it off, the mismatch the color of the fenders to guarantee they stay ugly. Why Toyota?
remember they were a major investor in telsa then sold their stake because cultures didnt align. new company ran like a start up vs the old bloated and old guys too rigid and think they know everytihing.
Went and looked at a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4 wheel drive truck
The dealership says they want 9000.00
For it ….
I told them they were fucking crazy and I’d walk 100 miles to another place before I’d ever pay them 9000.00 for a truck with 362,000 miles
And over 15 years old ….
Are these people insane ?
So you bought a Cybertruck instead? Or a BYD Shark?
These greedy japanese brands CAN LOWER THE PRICE. Yet they even try to raise it!!
Hope them sumbeeches can swim
Bz4x is an average BEV and expensive… no surprises it’s a lame duck.
Toyota! "Oh what a failing". Ugly and old tech.
It just shows just how overpriced these cars are, USD or AUD ?
