Yes; looks like GM is fast becoming a car company, that is irrelevant outside North America.
And while that still is a large car market, it is still small compared to the rest of the world, or even just China.

      @f1aziz 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

@@shyviking Chinese car market is 3 times that of America, if you can't compete in China, Chinese car makers will devastate you in your own home market. Protectionism(inflation for the average consumer) is the only tool available then. If the American car makers had invested in R&D and innovations instead of stock buy backs in the last 20 years, they would have been going toe-to-toe in Chinese car market like Tesla is today.
European and American car makers rely on higher margin per unit sales model. Chinese are going with lower margins but higher sales volumes. And this puts American and European car makers at huge disadvantage.

Funny thing about the Chinese government: it's a bureaucracy powered by merit and achievements. You want to climb to positions of power, you need to start low and demonstrate exceptional management skills; how much money you or your family has, or even whether friends or family members are in positions of power, doesn't really matter. In fact, trying to use money or power to influence those things will usually end badly for everyone involved.
Another funny thing: when evaluating if someone should be "promoted" - from city manager to region manager, for example - the Chinese government doesn't look just at the results and the input of those above, but also at their subordinates. Someone who delivers exceptional results but is hated by his subordinates not only doesn't get promoted, he could be removed from power altogether.
In many ways, China's government looks more like the management in a well-run private corporation than a traditional Western government.

We have a great example from European Union.
Investing in new and costly energy sources which are ironically called "green" like solar panels and wind turbines and abandoning cheap and dependable ones like natural gas and nuclear made EU countries much poorer.
Cost of energy is harder and harder to bare by citizens and brings businesses to bankruptcies, forces them to move outside EU or at best - causing massive layoffs.

      US should avoid “forever wars”.
US should take a more aggressive attitude to drug consumption, especially fentanyl.

However, for years now, the Republican Party has stood in the way of lowering drug prices, including prohibiting Medicare from negotiating prices. Democrats passed a bill during Biden's term to allow Medicare to negotiate a handful of the most common drugs. Wouldn't be surprised if Republicans tried to overturn that law.
Republicans also led the effort to offshore American industries, with some support by Clinton. They have also drastically weakened unions that fought that off shore effort.

China was/is already well ahead of the US on the clean tech technologies of the future and Trump has barely started to take the US backwards. The US has amazing companies and individuals who excel in this area but government also plays a huge role in setting those actors up for success or failure and overall the future of clean tech in the US looks increasingly dark for the US thanks to Trump.

There is a finite amount of economically recoverable oil left in the US. The faster it is wasted on transportation, the faster that oil won’t be available for everything from pharmaceuticals to textiles to plastics.
Yes today Trump will reduce the price of gasoline & increase consumption in the US. But when US oil doesn’t flow as readily tomorrow, today’s cheaper price will be at the expense of those items where it’s much harder to find alternatives to petroleum based parts/ingredients. That’s going to cost the US economy myriad times more in the future than what it saves for the next few years.

Biden’s order would require a government red team on AI development to monitor safety. Marc Andreessen said he was told by government they would end all AI development in the U.S. except for a few large corporations.
With release of Deepseek, we now know Biden’s policy would put us back to the Stone Age relative to AI. We dodged that bullet!

Fuel makes up for more than half of the global oil usage (and over 70% of the US oil usage). Switching to EVs will crater that demand and cripple oil companies, likely resulting in oil becoming more expensive (as the oil companies won't be able to use energy investments to offset costs for oil's industrial uses anymore and will lose economies of scale to boot).
With oil for everything else becoming more expensive, alternative ways of making those oil-dependent things - many of which were first invented during the 70s oil crisis, and thus had their patents expire long ago - should become feasible and receive R&D investment again, further decreasing the need for oil.
It will take time, of course, but in a few decades the oil industry might be approaching the drain. Many analysts already think oil reserves will end up as stranded assets, not worth drilling for.

The world will likely still need to invest in new extraction as old oil wells stop producing, as the transition likely won't be fast enough, but what is already clear is that investing in increasing production (as opposed to merely maintaining it) is already insanity, seeing how long it takes between new investment and the production increase that follows.

"Wind, solar and EVs, together with a new grid and battery storage are the cheaper and superior, more efficient and viable technology." If this statement is true, there is nothing else needed. No incentives, no warranties, no subsidies, no over-taxation of competing technologies. It is a no-brainer. Planet-wide adoption is just a question of time. It´s not a race either. If one country is 10 or 20 years late - so what? China imho started quite late compared to many early adopters. So what? In no time they have surpassed everybody else and by far.

I don’t know if that’s true, but if so, it could explain how China has been able to outperform expectations. Good video!

And not through 3 layers of bureaucracy! If resinc had installed the smart meter for you Sam you wouldn't have had those problems with connection. Lots of battery's needed to get full value of those panels. But it shouldn't just be up to the consumer ❤🎉
