If you have a Model 1885 28" griddle, it will warp because the griddle top has a manufacturing/engineering defect that will not allow it to lock in place. The holes are actually about 1/2" too close together. If you drill out the back of the back holes so the front pins will lock into place, it will be a lot less likely to warp. You can easily see this by locking the front pins in place while keeping the back pins out of the holes. When you then set the back of the cooking surface down, you will see the back pins are behind the existing holes. Pretty easy fix with a drill and round file. Other than that, mine is great! For the price, I didn't mind having to drill a couple holes.
I ordered mine Thursday night from WalMart online and it arrived on my porch in less than 12 hours. I was thinking after opening it that I might be spending 3 hours putting it together until I found this instruction ! I am very happy that I can have this up in a few minutes..
can you cook with this griddle without the legs deployed? I have an existed Blackstone prep cart and would love to use this as a "tabletop" griddle on that cart.
Seriously just picked my 28” up this morning. Got the 22” version in my camper. Take the wife to the Spa at Pagosa Springs. We go there every summer when we camp at Fun Valley in South Fork.
Great videos. Thanks. I’m Building an outdoor kitchen on my deck. I would like to have a tabletop griddle right next to my pizza oven. I like the 28in griddle but I don’t necessarily like it free standing. Do you think the 28in would work on a tabletop? My propane tank will be hidden underneath the counter Thx
I just assembled mine. The only thing I'm not sure about is that silver plate that's located underneath the burners. Did yours come with one? If so, do we remove it? The reason I ask is because mine only had one screw in it, but It seems my griddle didn't come with any other screws to get that sliver plate screwed on right.
I bought a 17" griddle recently. I did exactly like the instructions called for, I washed it with detergent and water, and rinsed it in the kitchen sink then dried it. I put it on the base and lit the burner and waited for it to come up to temperature. After it had warmed up to temperature (color change on the griddle surface) I applied the Blackstone branded seasoning. My paper towel was completely black from what I think was a pre-seasoning that Blackstone is possibly putting on these griddles now. I have never seen anything like this, and I watched lots of videos on this subject. I ended up taking it down to bare metal with a random orbital sander and starting over.
Todd, I just bought the same griddle as you have. Where in the heck do you put in the battery?? I’d re-read in the instruction that came with it and it doesn’t show where or how. Thanks!
Thanks for the post. Do you (or anyone) have any issues with rust or rusting on the griddle? I live in Florida, think humidity. I got a 36" for my birthday (a couple of years ago) and it has never been opened and is still in the box. I am extremely nervous about the top having rust continuously, and finally realize that this thing is huge. I believe this 28" will be a better fit for my hunting trips, camping trips, etc (have just built and overland Trailer for trips as well as my 19' RV). I believe I will try to do a trade with someone if I can. Comments on rusting and would a carry case be enough to control?
when you attach the propane hose should it sound like pressure is being released? Almost like propane is coming out even though the tank is turned off? Never used the stuff before
Bought the same one a few weeks ago. The front few inches won't heat up at all. Griddle plate looks to be positioned where it's supposed to be but not sure. It's slides as far back as it will go.
Be advised that some 28" griddles are designed to not go below 400 degrees F. My model 2325 is one such model. Check before buying. This directly from Blackstone support
Goes together great when you've verified yours goes together first. Mine doesn't. The bottom pan holes don't align to allow the thumbscrews to be installed. The propane bracket doesn't remotely fit. It looks like the holes on the cross bars weren't drilled properly. I'll have to modify a brand new product just to be able to move forward, and I haven't even gotten to the griddle part yet. Not quick when you have to do at-home fabricating just to get it to work.
Recently purchased the 28" Model 1517. Very disappointed in the design of this griddle as the griddle top does not lock into the base. It's only a matter of time before there's a serious burn accident (Especially with all of the aftermarket griddle tops available for this model). Terrible design that could be easily remedied. Who's in charge of Product Managment over there?
really strange cause i got on here to see what the bottom of yours looks like under the burners...... you have ZERO metal plates in the middle section.... mine has only one plate covering bout half the width of the gap. Almost seems like it needs another one of these shield pieces??? but apparently I dont need them at all?? I have noticed one side of my griddle gets hotter than the other and I believe it is because of this metal plate.....
Gosh I hope not because I’ve begged for one for years. I’m 55, live with my sweet mom and she just surprised me tonight with one!! 28” griddle w/hood. We couldn’t afford any of the accessories yet and hoping I can at least use it until we can swing getting a few. I’m so excited about this!! I pray my poor mom didn’t waste her $$

Thanks for this mine won’t lock in
What kind of drill bit and file? I built mine yesterday and have this problem.
Yep
ThNk you for this video. We are currently waiting for our new 28” blackstone griddle to arrive. So excited, feel like a kid before Christmas.

Thanx for the tips and great videos brother!!!!!
Blackstone griddle is a must for all of us outside campers and explorers!!!!🤙🏼💪🏼
I just bought myself one & this was very helpful! Thanks 😊
Welcome to #griddlenation! 🔥

This is a great video! I’m thinking of getting a 28”.
We bought a 28” range combo - had it together in an hour!!
Ask Blackstone why the 22-in griddle stand cost more than the griddle?

great video! do the burners needs cleaning like the traditional bbq grill?
Great video. Thanks for sharing👍👍
Thank you for this video. Just bought one and it made assembly a breeze. Appreciate it 😊
Todd, I just bought the same griddle as you have. Where in the heck do you put in the battery?? I’d re-read in the instruction that came with it and it doesn’t show where or how. Thanks!
Screw off the ignition button and you put it in there I believe
@@elihollifield2588 this grill does not have a screw off button on the panel. Just doesn’t have one at all. The griddle is working great!
I am having the same issue I have to use a lighter to turn it on all the time
@@dreecorrales9288the ignition button on the front all the way to the left. Unscrew it and put the battery in

How does it handle wind. I'm planning on taking this to the beach
Are the legs without the wheels supposed to be wobbly?? All together and that side won't stay straight and it wobbles.
What’s the quickest way to take it apart for travel?
Any thoughts on the 36" griddle? I'm currently looking at the 28".

Are the back legs of the griddle top supposed to drop in the holes? I just bought one and mine do not. Just asking before I start “modifying”. Thanks.
Can’t wait to meet you brother July 3 NY
My dad just bought me one of these it said that you have to put a battery in it where does the battery go
Where does the battery go?
Lol this is what I came for !

Nice I can't wait for mine to get here. I just ordered that exact one.
Thanks picked this up for 50.00 at walmart

Where does the F ing battery go
Screw off igniter. Drop in AA. + facing out. Screw back on.
I always say Yanni can play 7 pianos at the same time; one of them with his mustache. You are the Yanni of Blackstones!
